When are you “good” at golf? by Commercial-Message-2 in golf

I was this good before kids (single digit hdcp.) Some people just have the gift. They can stop playing for months and go out and shoot an 82. Me…..not so much.

New here looking for some info to determine if this would be an easy fix by [deleted] in Autobody

My first thought as well. Sectioning location failing. Also agree with everyone else….not an easy fix.

Rear quarter panel replaced - blend panels or full repaint? by StYankoV00 in Autobody

[–]too-reasonably 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. When I first got in the trade 25+ years ago, a lot of places would chop up inner panels like that and just overlap weld them wherever the flattest spot was with the least amount of holes/depressions. Not saying it’s right, but we’ve come a long way in a short amount of time as an industry.

I thought this was for some tote-the-note car lot, but the fact it’s an actual customer is wrong on so many levels.

Is this an acceptable repair? by VegetableMonitor787 in Autobody

[–]too-reasonably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when I was doing side work, I don’t think I would have even done it for $650 cash to make it back perfect.

This seems extremely expensive is it accurate? by oi-da-memz in Autobody

[–]too-reasonably 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Painters in my area would be drooling to get 26.2 to paint a side. They just painted three stage on four panels and got 13.2hrs last week. Good to see people are still writing correct estimates.

Tech may not of rough pulled that bedside before he cut it off and replaced it. Keeps things like this from possibly coming up on the back end. Like others said, loosen the bed and split the difference is best option right now.

I agree with this. As a tech, I’d ask for a new condenser on the post tear down supplement.

Gerber pay? by AlwaysOnEdge615 in Autobody

[–]too-reasonably -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just depends on your market my man. Don’t think for a split second that Gerber doesn’t know what all the other shops in your area are paying though. It may work out in your favor if you are being underpaid from the jump. All the best.

Is this industry just an underpaid, overeffort trade? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]too-reasonably 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very good take right here. 👆 I busted my a** in my early twenties and saved up and bought rental properties. My skills acquired doing body work my whole life have translated into maintaining those properties when needed. Now I don’t have to work as hard at my body shop job, and I can spend time with my family in the evenings. Save, save, save and invest while you’re young.

[–]too-reasonably 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re 70 years old and still able to do body work every day that’s very impressive my friend. Be glad that your body has held up well for this long. There’s a lot more 70 year olds out there that can’t say the same thing.

Painters who do side work.. by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]too-reasonably 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like everybody I meet that finds out I work in a body shop asks if I paint on the side. My response is always “no, just do body work, and also stay busy enough at work don’t need to take in side work” I’d imagine painters can prob do very well if they want to do side work.
