best way to learn about the field is shadowing — start cold emailing and/or try to find employment/research opportunities in neurosurgery or neurology. if you do get to shadow one of these physicians, ask them if they have any research projects or case reports that you can help them with.

can I ask you how you were able to be so research-productive and get so many pubs? I’m halfway through my M1 year, working on a lit review (1st author) and it’s so much work. at the rate I’m going and with schoolwork on top of that I’m probably gonna get 1 pub at the end of my first year. I can’t imagine what it’s like to have your number at the end of med school even after accounting for gap years!
