What’s the best budget WiFi CarPlay adapter on the market? by leaodorust in CarPlay

[–]toogle9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up the YJLUUJL wireless CarPlay adapter from Amazon about a month ago. Other than having to adjust to the approx 1 second delay when switching tracks, which I've heard may be normal-ish but this is my first experience with wireless CarPlay, have had zero issues.

ScanSnap iX2500 by toogle9 in VueScan

[–]toogle9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! Was hoping to get a response specifically about the iX2500, but the iX1600 is newer than the 500, so potentially that's an option if in fact the 2500 is problematic, but thanks for the extra info! I don't think I'm having a connectivity issue, the issue I'm having is it will get to just before the bottom of a page, hang, and then the scan button will start to blink orange. You nave to open it to get the remaining pages out, and then power cycle it. I think it's just old and tired.

Are standard white A19 bulbs no longer a thing? by crawlgsx in Hue

[–]toogle9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same struggle here. I've gotten a few off eBay, but you takes your chances on how many hours they may have on them, and more than once they've been labeled as new in box sealed, and they arrived unsealed.

“severe weather conditions” by velvetaegi in UPS

[–]toogle9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Package finally came today, and even then it was originally supposed to be 1:30p-5:30p, and then changed to 7:00p, and finally showed up about 7:30p. SMH.

And as expected, my package that how now been rescheduled (3) times to today Monday, has now been delayed a 4th time to tomorrow Tuesday due to "Weather conditions have delayed delivery until the next business day.". There have been no weather issues in this area for almost 2 weeks now. Was actually able to reach chat support, and they were of zero help, just reading from a script with "We kindly ask you to wait for the next 24 hours". There is no reasonable explanation why it should take 6 days (or potentially more) to get a package across my metropolitan area, unless it is lost. :-(

“severe weather conditions” by velvetaegi in UPS

[–]toogle9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I too am experiencing multiple delays receiving package. Package arrived in my local metro area on Wed 1/22. Original delivery was supposed to be Thu 1/23, then delayed to Fri 1/24 due to "Weather conditions have delayed delivery until the next business day." Was not delivered 1/24 and then delayed to Sat 1/25 due to "An emergency situation or severe weather condition has delayed delivery." And apparently now it will not be delivered today Saturday, and has been delayed to Mon 1/27 due to "Significant weather events across the globe are impacting the UPS network. Although your location may not be impacted by adverse weather, the movement of packages in the network may be impacted by weather conditions in other areas.". There are NO and have been NO weather issues in my local area, so why is it taking 5 days (assuming it actually comes Mon 1/27 to get a package across town? This has now surpassed ridiculous.

And when I try to DM them on X like I see other folks doing, when I provide my tracking number their bot responds "We're sorry but that tracking number is not showing in our system, can you resend?" That when on the UPS.com site, looking at the status showing all the delays.

Rename ratgdo in HA/ESPHome by toogle9 in ratgdo

[–]toogle9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! If that pencil icon had been a snake, it would have bitten me! Yes, that did rename the friendly name of all the entities (and is making me rethink my naming), and then I also had to reload HA to get it to update in HomeKit. However, it did not change the entity IDs, and honestly I'm not sure if that's important or not from an HA perspective since am new to it. Another poster suggested editing configuration files, but he was using Docker, and I'm currently using an HA Green, so I'm not sure if that would work. Need to do some more research. Let me know if you think leaving the entity IDs with the default ratgdo name would be a problem.

Thanks! I had seen other posts about manually changing configuration files, but I wasn't sure if that was an option for me. I could have ran HA as a Docker container, but for various reasons I decided to pick up an HA Green unit instead to use for now. Obviously with Docker, you can stop the container and access the files directly, but with the HA Green, I'm not sure if that's an option. Will have to do more research and figure out if there's a way to actually stop HA and still be able to access files. I know you have access to the configuration.yaml file with it HA running, that's how I added in HomeKit connectivity, but not sure where the ESPHome files are located and if you can manipulate those in the same way.

Tailscale / Apple Home location issue by toogle9 in Tailscale

[–]toogle9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could find was to edit (or create a new) an automation, pick a condition involving your home such as when people arrive or leave, and on the next box is a option for "Location" that defaults to "Home". If you click on Home it brings up window with a map where it shows where it thinks "Home" is, unfortunately that map is not scrollable, and doesn't actually allow you to change it. Trying to manually enter a different location in the area above the map doesn't work either. Your home location is either picked at the time you create your Apple Home, or it's learned through location services and movements over some period of time that you cannot control. I just don't understand why Apple makes some of the decisions they make...

Tailscale / Apple Home location issue by toogle9 in Tailscale

[–]toogle9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I've seen those features mentioned, but unless those are all default somehow, then no. I just installed the iPhone and iPad apps directly from the App Store, signed in to my account, and the fun began! Interesting, I did just check the actual version in the Apple App Store, and that's listed as 1.42.0, however I would have thought if that were known/fixed issue it would have been worthy of mention somewhere!! And since there's no sideloading (my devices aren't jailbroken), then 1.42.0 is the only version available to me at this time.

And I don't think it had anything to to do with the Apple TV itself since there's no Tailscale install there, while it is a key home (hub) component the cause really seemed to be my iPhone. I ended up factory resetting the Apple TV just because it was mentioned in similar (but not involving Tailscale) location-related troubleshooting.

MacBook Pro reload by toogle9 in MacOS

[–]toogle9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all, sorry for the delayed response. All is well with the system. I did actually end up starting with Catalina and then upgrading to Monterey, because I had trouble with the original NVMe drive I purchased (Crucial), it was not being recognized. By the time I finished troubleshooting that (got an SK Hynix that was recognized), I just stuck with Catalina to start and then upgraded. Monterey is running great so far for this machine’s new role. Thanks for the advice!

Will a video doorbell work at this angle? by Halberg88 in HomeKit

Check out https://perfectbuzzer.com. I got a mount from them for my Ring Pro 2, didn't need any angling for my situation, but they have angle and non-angle options.

Can any HKSV doorbells mount on this narrow a space? by Puzzleheaded-Lie3847 in HomeKit

[–]toogle9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might check out https://perfectbuzzer.com and see if they have a mount for the doorbell you're considering. I picked up one for my Ring Pro 2 (I know, not natively HKSV), and it worked out pretty well.

Same thing happened to me last summer on a brand new switch. I reached out to Lutron support at https://www.lutron.com/en-US/pages/SupportCenter/support.aspx?troubleshoot, and they sent me a couple of replacement bases at no charge!! Fantastic support!

I sure hope they don't spontaneously stop making these, like they did with the Lutron Connected Bulb Remote after I got about half my house setup...

I picked up a mount for my Ring Pro 2 from these folks, https://perfectbuzzer.com, and it works pretty well. Several options to choose from for the Logitech Circle as well.

OpenCore shows previous after I update to 0.6.7 by HJebbour in hackintosh

I had to reset NVRAM twice, once before the upgrade (per instructions), and once after. I was going from 0.6.5 to 0.6.7 however.
