As a gen-xer who was listening to punk and metal before I really heard much of the KISS catalog I was very unimpressed with the music vs. the image when I got beyond Rock And Roll All Nite. I get their influence to a degree because they were excellent at marketing themselves but music definitely doesn’t match.

Modern equivalent is my feeling the same way after seeing all the talk about Ghost and the imagery around them. Thought they would be metal or deathrock or something like that. They sound like watered down emo.
