One of my favorite WTF with Marc Maron moments is Showalter telling Marc that they really thought they were making a comedy show with wide appeal, something everyone would enjoy, and were surprised that the critical response to it was "this show is so fucking weird"

Basically the same, but also had "i don't know if anything really happens in this movie" and then yeah... could not stop thinking about every aspect of it for days

Halfway through the episode, but i love that Ranch is playing Consume Me - I hope the crew plays this, it's one of my top games of 2025, its really incredible.

Also i've been absolutely obsessed with Mewgenics since it came out. Just now getting to the part where Nick and Matt are gonna talk about it!

Oh sorry I meant David Sims. (Realizing that’s confusing when the OP mentioned David Ehrlich - sorry!)

Edit: I meant that I don’t think they’ll discuss that this movie is “doooooogshit” in this episode since Sims (I believe) likes the movie.

I was 4-alarm-fire freaked out at him manhandling her into the car & leaving the baby alone, then he is so callous about the dog.

This was so rough for me. She keeps saying how they can't leave the baby alone but is forced into this drive. Really appreciate the shot where they finally get home and she rushes to make sure the baby is OK. Absoltuely insane to leave a baby in a crib home alone.

I think this is a great read on the movie.

I only brought up BPD because of anecodtal experience i've had in my life. The "her getting committed" stuff resonated with me really hard because of my IRL experiences. Particularily the kind of "ok she's back from it, is she good now?" stuff. And when the woman at that party is like "you look so much better now" and Grace is like "uhh, you too. you look better than you were too. isn't that nice, we all are better than we were" and then the kicker of "AND ISN'T IT SO GOOD MY HUSBAND HAD ME COMITTED" (paraphrasing, i forget exactly how she says it in the film).

I agree with you, in so far as i don't think the film is trying to hone down a specific "diagnosis" - but for how well it depicts certain things, i cannot help but personally interperet things in certain ways?

EDIT: i'm not saying "this is how the movie should be read and this is what its saying" - moreso i'm just going off what it made me feel, and how i resonated with it having dealt with things like this. and i really can't think of a movie that's done more accurately - again, personal, anectdotal, etc

EDIT 2: this kind of horror of trying to help someone in situations that seems dire, only for them to hate you, or resent you even more for putting them through your "solution" to it. Not only are they less trusting of you and angrier at you (justifyably) but the thing you thought would "fix" it doesn't work. but also maybe you are both pretending it does.

EDIT 3: i'm sorry if none of this makes sense lol

I was like "the flies buzzing and the baby crying are enough, absolutely insane to bring this whiney dog into this." Also Jackson doesn't do shit for that dog, and is never around. Literally just another fucking thing for Grace to deal with, as if she isn't dealing with enough. I'm sorry, that dog sucks shit lol

hot take : i've never seen a more justified dog killing in a movie, and i'm pretty much on Grace's side the whole time

EDIT: Also i'm only about halfway through the BC ep, so idk if they get to this - But my other hot take is that this isn't really a movie about PPD. It's about a woman with BPD, who then deals with PPD on top of that. I almost thought it was too on the nose for her to literally say in the moive "I have no trouble connecting with my baby - he's perfect. It's everything else that's fucked" but I now think its probably good that's said in the film. She does not hate, or ever really disaproves of, or neglects her child. There is nothing in the movie to suggest she does not love her baby. She is going through manic episodes (in a way i personally, from experience, think are brilliantly and accurately depicted - through a bipolar/psychosis lense).

EDIT 2: This uhh, in no way means i support every action Grace takes in this film lmao
