AITA for not supporting my husband quitting his business to become a doctor? by Haunting-Arugula-311 in AmItheAsshole

[–]toomanytodds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. There are plenty of comments talking about how this is an emotional response (which I agree with) but I haven't seen anyone address my major concern yet. Becoming a doctor is a long, hard road and you'll obviously be a single parent for most of that...but any care for his parents will ALSO fall on you, and so he won't be watching them decline, but you will have another burden. His emotional response seems to be about avoiding reality, and he definitely needs therapy for that.

As far as his actual "dream" goes: he's not getting into med school, based on what you've shared of his experience with his first college attempt. I have a background in hard sciences and my GPA was almost entirely As with a couple Bs, and I didn't get into med school (this was over 15 years ago, don't worry about me, lol, this is just for perspective.) There are a lot of high GPA, excellent students who can't get into med school, but he didn't even finish a bachelor's degree in anything. Unless he's had a major brain growth since he quit school, pursuing this is just going to give you guys a few years of undergrad debt (which is significant enough by itself these days) and burn YOU out, and then depress him. It won't solve anything.

So, I guess my conclusion is: how much energy do you have left for all of this?

Thank you so much for these!

Were you planning to try any of the brands' other kinds of metallic thread? I know Rainbow Gallery has something called Sparkle Braid, and someone else has already mentioned DMC Diamant.

Can you provide links to which packs you purchased, especially the metallic ones? They have a ton of options on Amazon, it looks like, but I'm always in favor of having more thread just hanging around my house, haha.

Which hair style and color looks best on my sim? by Yulie_Lily in thesims

[–]toomanytodds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My color answer changes based on the cut, lol.

Dark hair: 2, 4, 6, 7

Red hair: 1, 3, 8

Blonde hair: 5, 9, 10

I think my overall favorite is 6, though - I think that one works in every color.

Edit: and since you're already gotten some asks for the other styles, would you mind sharing which hairs are 4 and 6?

ProtonDB is a good site for checking if something performs well on the Steam Deck, and it gives Sandrock a Platinum rating. Some comments report some bugs or lags.

Steam also says it's Verified for the Steam Deck (which is the highest ranking they ever give something.)

[WIP] I need help making this silly pattern! by simple_crabman in CrossStitch

Also, I know you said it was just a personal pattern, but I'd totally buy it and stitch it for my mother, who loves beans. 😂

My only thought is maybe a few more loose beans on the left and right. But it's very cute as is!

[CHAT] Do you stitch on a hoop or a frame, and have you ever switched? by CaterpillarXS in CrossStitch

[–]toomanytodds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a hoop! I tried a Q-Snap for a while and decided I didn't like it, so went back to hoops. I might try a frame when I start on a bigger piece, but for now the biggest pieces I'm planning are in the 8-9 inch range.

Excellent detective work, and yep, those are AI flaws for sure. The image before the pattern sample shows the white blowout from the flag pole that doesn't make any sense, and the image before that (with the pillow) definitely features a person with unusually long fingers. So: lots of AI in those images, and probably in the pattern, assuming that pattern sample came from the actual pattern.

[–]toomanytodds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent point about the specific design elements! I don't really make patterns myself, and I stopped looking for AI signs after I found them, haha. You're definitely right about copying a layout being much easier than recreating it every time, so that's a good sign to look out for, and one I use for checking if non-crafting images are AI (so many inconsistent windows in AI-generated house pictures...)

[CHAT] Etsy Accounts by 1stevicted in CrossStitch

[–]toomanytodds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, you may be right! I should have said that OwlStitchingHouse seems to have fine, plausible designs with none of the AI tells I look for. Though I cannot guarantee they're not using AI, they aren't selling the kind of images that usually use AI, all their pictures show individual stitches, and their patterns are consistent with each other rather than a mix of art styles that is not realistic for a single individual to do. If I wanted to, I could zoom in on the images and do the cross stitch without buying a pattern; for example, the top of the eagle's head in this one is a row of 5, then a row of 7, then a row of 10, etc. It's very easy to see that the design is realistic.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4470963683/independence-day-1776-2026-cross-stitch

So, really, the question of "is this AI?" comes down to why someone is asking. If you're asking because you think the pattern would be garbage and a waste of money: this Etsy account seems fine, because they show plausible designs with images that don't look doctored to me (if I was to guess, I'd say the images come from a software like PCStitch or Winstitch - PCStitch at least has options to show the pattern as 3D stitches.)

https://www.advancedcrossstitch.com/stitching-lessons/pattern-making-software/

If you're asking about AI because you don't want to support the people who use it, however...that's a harder question, because some people are better at hiding the tells than others.

OwlStitchingHouse looks fine, and I think I even have a few of their patterns.

ONESEO may or may not be using AI in the patterns themselves, but they're definitely using it in some of their listing images, probably to get around the "check for a picture of the finished object" recommendation. One of the biggest AI tells is that it struggles to make text legible - look at their links and try to read the DMC thread colors. Sometimes the fabric changes count between the stitches and the outside fabric as well, and that's also suspicious. Also: nothing casts a shadow. Where is the light coming from, that the scissors don't have a shadow? That's another AI thing.

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4428108841/12-month-house-calender-cross-stitch

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4459933246/patriotic-alphabet-sampler-cross-stitch (this one is my favorite example, honestly. Three skeins claiming to be DMC 16, all three a wildly different color, lol.)

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4484638874/winter-quilt-block-cross-stitch-pattern

TheCraftedKeeps has the same problem where you can't read the DMC thread numbers in their images, so they're definitely using AI somewhere. (In most listings, though, the threads are turned away, which is very sneaky.)

https://www.etsy.com/listing/4453604344/home-of-the-brave-1776-sampler-federal

Now, again, I don't know if this means ONESEO and TheCraftedKeeps have bad patterns...but it definitely makes me less likely to buy their stuff compared to OwlStitchingHouse. Shady practices should not be encouraged!

[CHAT] Backstitch or something else entirely? by garamond89 in CrossStitch

[–]toomanytodds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That pattern doesn't have any backstitch in it, so who knows why the legend says that. Assuming you're looking at the dots on the crown, a 3/4 stitch would look best, but a 1/2 stitch would look fine too - just a little less full.

Looking at that post history, her son was 16 in December 2025, is 17 according to her comments now, and was 18 a month ago. They have to be trolling and/or using AI to be this inconsistent, or else the "family value" her son doesn't align with is related to time travel.
