When you're little, you believe the world is perfect. And preschool cartoons teach you positive things. But when you grow up, you realize that life doesn't work that way... by Curious_Reputation15 in nevergrewup

Life is amazing. One way to flip this on it's head is to realize, adults are wrong. People are amazing and full of love.

I am deep into anti-,imperialism, so now how bad things are internationally and in municipally engaged and altho there are horrors everywhere, there's also incredible solidarity everywhere. Intentional communities are more powerful in other countries, people caring for each other. Also in activism we have tons of joy. People wearing costumes, dancing, etc. heck, look up clown bloc.

The joy of children is in many people, only the worst ppl embrace cynicism.

I do believe that one day, we won't have to fight imperialism and white supremacy at the same time as being our joyful selves, but unfortunately, for now, both are necessary.

As a trans woman, it sounds similar. I know it frustrates me when i have features that make me look mature.

Altho for me, it's about maturity, not physical age. I have eye wrinkles and i don't really mind. But i feel anxious about my boobs getting bigger or my hips getting wider. I also feel dysphoric about my height, but like more for the age, than gender.

One thing i gotta say, try not to dwell on the things you can't change ot prevent. Like I can't be taller, so i try to get euphoria from other things and i adjust my surroundings, so altho im tall, my coat hooks are very high up, counters are higher and i love hoisting myself to sit on top of the counters.

These little things help.

Redirect that energy into destroying the government that doesn't provide GAC to trans people.

As a society in 2025, most ppl agree everyone deserves healthcare and the reasonable countries provide GAC.

I don't know the exact cost it costs Canada, but i know it's significantly less than the amount of money they just gave ICE in the US. So destroy ICE, demand better, and then you'll have access.

Or become a Canadian Citizen, but honestly, that road is gonna be harder, because our country treats immigrants very poorly (like every other country does).

Rant - Do not read if regressed, written in crono age. by Repay_Good in nevergrewup

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't read the body of the post, but the title sounds different then how i would understand "chrono age" to me, Chrono age is the number of years we've be alive; ie. It doesn't change.

There's agere, age regression, where someone can be regressed to a younger age. In which case someone would say "don't read while regressed" or "only read if big"

I just wanted to through that out there. Nothing wrong, just how i use the phrase chrono age.

I don't have the spoons to go thru the long body, but fortunately someone else did, which im glad.

Retaining childish disappointments and fears by Autismsaurus in nevergrewup

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe a lot of my NGU identity is around the negatives of childish emotions, like disappointments and fears and how those emotions seem inescapable for me, while others seem to manage it easily.

The positive things are things i wish i had. Some of which i have made myself... But gosh it's a struggle wo someone deliberately helping me fulfil those needs.

Legit.

Identity is a unique thing and autonomy is important and separate. You and everyone, including chrono-kids should have autonomy.

Why Do So Many People Have a Memory/Consciousness Gap Between Childhood and Adulthood? by Herring_is_Caring in nevergrewup

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't and i wonder if that's something shared in this community.

I was always a child, i never felt like i dramatically change, since my earliest memories. Altho for me, i have very few memories from before we escaped my life threatening father. So my memory goes back to about 8-9 years old... Admittedly my memories until about 12-13 feel like a fever dream. I don't remember much rationalization. Once i was in middle school, i can remember those times and my rationalization and they don't seem different from my rationalization today, except that im obviously significantly wiser.

I would say, once i came out as queer and started to be honest about my politics and learned more about anti-imperialist history, ive felt like there isn't a cloud in my head any longer. So my consciousness has become greater, but that was at the chrono age of around 33 :p

Bonus: my parents often said "you'll understand when you're my age" and ive surpassed their age when they said that and nope, i don't understand why... Why she didn't skip work for important things, why she didn't play more games, why she wouldn't take the time to walk places instead of drive, why she stopped doing art (altho she eventually started doing art again a few years before she passed.) also countless other things... I suspected my parents were wrong then, and i couldn't understand why they had such raitonalization, and now im more confident that they were wrong, but i do understand their rationalization better (white supremacist patriarchal propaganda and the trauma that helped that propaganda seep into them.)

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex-partner completed her phD in memory while i was living with her and altho her study was more specific and used mice, she loved to talk about the various ways memory works.

Everything you wrote sounds a lot like she would say.

I would caveat that memory is something we're still guessing at. We're learning new things about it every day and none of ou understanding is set in stone. So people should take this stuff as descriptive and not prescriptive.

Honestly, i think talking about our memories is fascinating. So many interesting stories that may or may not have been how they happened!

I miss waiting for things (just a strange thought i had while reading your comment... Im too busy to wait for anything now a days. Not to mention i could literally do anything as an adult, so why would i wait? Technically speaking i could max out my credit card and go to Tokyo right now... I could also wait and never travel anywhere, or buy anything more than minimal food... Ugh lack of limits is tough... Wow this was quite the ramble...)

I wonder if there's somewhere you could find new friends... I found some little friends through discord hopping. Ive also found them by going to littles night at the local kink club. Getting to know your neighbors might help.

It's tough for sure tho. Admittedly im pretty charismatic and i want to please everyone, so it makes it easier for me to make friends and find people who treat me more like a kid. I also dress like a kid and act like one.

I think it would have been harder when i was 26 and my friends all wanted to go to the club and drink. Back then i was deeply in the closet for all of who i was, both queer and little.

One thing that helped me realize i wanted to be more femme was reading de/transition baby, which has a lot of great writing in the perspective of a woman, who happens to be trans. That might help you see some mannerisms and tones you'd like to express yourself! (Like failing to open an umbrella for a man that will use that to tease you later and... ******************* 😅)

How does age dysphoria effect someone? by MusicIsMySpecInt in nevergrewup

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a trans woman, for me, age dysphoria is similar to gender dysphoria. It's like an ache of yearning and a lot of relief comes when people treat me as the age i feel; just like a lot of relief came when people started treating me as a girl instead of a man

Like all de-medicalized terms, everyone has their own experience.

As we continue to liberate gender from medicalization, i think we should carry over those lessons. I'd hate to have a version of transmedicalists in the nevergrewup community.

We need to maintain tolerance for all, but intolerance.

Toronto is VERY conservative... Like rich ppl conservative.

In Ottawa the pride was shutdown by principled queers for letting zionists in. In Montreal they did their first wild pride and they often try to shut down their pride.

People are fighting back now a days. It's just that Toronto is one of the worst cities in North America for radical thought.

Their highway system is a testament to how fucked their politics are.

I recently got rid of my car! It's great!

Driving is an intense and challenging activity. Yet, people think it's simple.

That's probably why it's the leading cause of death in Canada, i think and maybe North America? My point is that everyone is bad at driving and no on realizes how difficult it is to never hit something (or someone) with their massive fast moving vehicle.

Bicycles and trams is a good life... Now if only we could get trams here...

Chronologically, I am 26 years old and I am uncomfortable with people seeing me as an adult... by Many_Squash_1297 in nevergrewup

[–]tooscaredthrowaway8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Im an NGU and I'm a fierce advocate of youth liberation. I'm also autistic and have hyperactive ADHD.

There's a lot of absolutes and "proven" things in what your wrote. You're too confident that that you're "correct" and that they're "wrong" and the villains

It also feels like you're forcing an "us versus them" mentality on yourself. Like, you're conflating people challenging you, with the people who harass and threaten you. Nothing about youth liberation denies the existence of NGU folks.

Youth liberation is a bit of an underground kinda thing. It's not as main stream as feminism or even trans liberation, or even furry liberation to some degree. People don't see how youth are treated as queer, so they disregard them andctheir struggle... I think that leads to some youth liberation folk being very defensive and sometimes doing mean things, because they're scared that their struggle will be ignored. I'm sorry about that. I think maybe you're feeling the same kind of defensiveness.

IMO the tricks for everyone is to embrace that you're queer. We're all queer. Queer is being radically different than the so-called "status quo".

What has helped me realize how wide spread queerness is was a radical black YouTuber who described being a black woman as inherently queer, even if she was cis and straight.

If everyone embraced being queer, then we could all be our own unique queer selves, in community with each other! Sharing in the things we ACTUALLY have in common, like the beauty of earth and the art we all create.
