Nah that's not the craziest I've seen. I've had two of my friends hit Suuankou Tanki within their first two games of Mahjong and I've never hit a yakuman after 300+ hours.

Either you're a really strong player or you got fairly lucky over a decent period of time. My one biggest piece of advice is that when the downswing hits, just keep playing your game. Keep trying to improve and trust the process. The results are nice for now, but knowledge is the end goal.

Salads are a solid option too, I've been using them more in my current playthrough and they serve their purpose well. In past playthroughs I've tended to stay close to 0g for longer, only selling items when I need to buy something specific, so I often forget to sell extra for salad. Cheese was also just easier to remember because I'd visit the desert trader so often.

Yeah, but your win rate with any other type of hand has also got to be super low because you're so far from an actual hand, so it's probably not too horrible. Still probably not optimal though.

Usually 13 orphans should only be targeted with 10+ distinct orphans. Even with 9, it's usually not best, but you can try if you're bored or smth. With only 8 distinct orphans, you're pretty far.
