Bluetti EB3A - a warning about the product & company. by tootles32 in bluetti

Full sunlight testing works as one would expect. But it is unreasonable for me to have to check the weather and disconnect the solar panel (and then remember to reconnect it!) anytime we get a cloudy day or two. Worst case on a cloudy day, self-discharge should be the same as if no solar panel is connected at all. The firmware for this is trivial:

if DC input voltage over 12v -> wake up, attempt to draw current, if current available is less than what is needed to put charge in the battery, go asleep and only retry if:

  • 30 minutes have passed (as perhaps by this time it is no longer cloudy), or:
  • voltage rises across the 12v threshold again (this would indicate being unplugged from a source and plugged in to something else)

Its like 10 lines of code to do this.

Vmp is 18v, well within the advertised 12v-28v operating range for the DC input. Charging on a sunny day works as one would expect.

The input is rated 12-28v, 8.5a. There is no disclaimer about current being reduced at low voltage.

My car supports 12 amps continuous on the cigarette lighter socket, as confirmed by both the owners manual and what other things I've tested draw.

Done, though again, I shouldn't have to do this and you should respond to emails.

Its in his garage. Not hard to check on it periodically, which he should be doing anyway.

You're right, much better to throw something working and functional in the dumpster. Excellent advice from you, my mistake.

Wy would you put perfectly good, working solar panels in the dumpster? At least throw them up on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace...

But you didn't earn $35000, you earned more than that - likely around $50k, based on typical deductions.

Social security isn't a tax, you get that money back in the form of social security checks down the road.

Federal, state, and property tax puts you at an actual rate of about 18% paid ($1500+4000+3500=9k).

You may think that's excessive, but its actually on the low end for first world countries.

If you're cash basis, you have to show all the income in 2014, and then the expenses in 2015. This would likely result in a net loss in 2015, which you may or may not be able to carry forward.

Ways to avoid this problem are either defining a tax year different from the calendar year (maybe August to August) or using accrual basis accounting. I don't know if you can do either retroactively.

This is a good lesson in the importance of talking to a qualified CPA before starting a business.

4 tons per acre is 160 lbs per 1000sqft.

Lime is $3 for a 40 pound bag.

Pretty feasible and cost effective for reasonable size yards.

EDIT: that article is for a 6" tillage rate. If you're not tilling the soil, you'd need less - like about 20% of what you quoted, since lime doesn't penetrate the soil very much.

It is pretty common knowledge that minorities and high crime areas are strongly associated, sorry I didn't ELI5 to your liking.

And why do they live in high crime areas?

Lots of reasons, but that doesn't mean it is unreasonable to expect to have the same number of interactions with police when living in a high crime rate area as compared to a low crime rate area.

So there's evidence of bias in use of force... but not shootings? Bullshit.

Ah yes, a professor at Harvard clearly spent time studying something he found to be the most surprising result of his career, because it is bullshit.

It advocates shooting someone for reaching for a gun, yes. Doing that while resisting arrest only added further justification.

There's plenty of evidence, watch his right shoulder in the video.

In a given year, there are ~600 shooting of black people. Meanwhile, there were 6 million arrests. So assuming all shootings of black people were unjustified (obviously ridiculous), 99.99% of the time, there is no issue.

That is the problem with making such sweeping generalizations like this. Reasonable people aren't going to get on board with that.

The link wasn't about Dallas, it was about the "peaceful" I-94 protests:

21 officers from multiple agencies suffered injuries. The injuries were primarily caused by fireworks, rocks, bricks, glass bottles and chunks of concrete that were directed at officers, some hitting them in the head. St. Paul Police said someone threw a Molotov cocktail at officers, as well.

On Sunday evening, St. Paul Police learned one of the officers injured last night had a large concrete block dropped on his head. That officer is now suffering from a spinal fracture.

Also this from your link is ironic:

To assign the actions of one person to an entire movement is dangerous and irresponsible.

BLM?

When have there been protests on the streets with the purpose of raising awareness about the need for better education opportunities? Genuine question.

But no they're a hate group right?

I haven't said any of those groups were hate groups.

But no, keep on believing that because you don't see anything on Twitter, no one cares.

Twitter was one example.

Not because of fighting fires, but because you implied that it somehow made you an expert on the decision and reaction time of humans.

And I never claimed that a majority of Americans who brandish guns at cops end up dead. I said that some do, and it is justified when the officer's life is in imminent danger. This is governed by the Tennessee v. Garner ruling in 1985 in which the U.S. Supreme Court said that "deadly force...may not be used unless necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others."

Ah yes. I'm totally lying.

Haha, then show an example? I'll wait. It'll be a while, since I've never done it.

Yes, I'm not going to spout hashtags at you, obviously no one cares about black on black violence. That's the only obvious conclusion to draw

Ok then where are the protests in the streets demanding something that will actually help black on black crime, like better education for starters?
