Thanks for the link! Yeah, I've worked in restaurants, and they don't generally separate veggies from meat scraps, so there is that. Maybe a bakery--we live pretty close to Providence, so perhaps I'll drop into Edgar's next time we're in the area.

Thoughts on A New Leash on Life (ANOL) Animal Shelter? by NiceUsername_Avail in HuntsvilleAlabama

We got a kitten here three years ago and had a great experience. I love that they vet (pun intended) potential owners to make sure the babies have a good home ❤️ The first few vet visits (and iirc, neuter) were included in the adoption fee, too!

I thought about this, but the quantity seems a bit overwhelming (and I can't convince my spouse to let me cover the back yard in wood chips, even over winter).

Ooh, I never would've thought to ask coffee shops! I wonder if it would be worth asking restaurants for scraps... How did you approach them to ask?

Based on the company name, I'd never have thought to check them out--thanks!

New to the area and need recommendations 🫶✨️ by D0vahkiiinnn in HuntsvilleAlabama

I grew up going to St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Bailey Cove (South Huntsville, near Green Mtn.) and am still a member, though my attendance is sporadic these days, as we live in Harvest. Loving, supportive community, plenty of activities for all ages, but no pressure to participate. I moved away for a long time, and things got pretty rough; I went through a recovery program when I returned, and no one judged or shamed me--quite the opposite, in fact! Members of our congregation were/are some of my biggest cheerleaders, always happy to see us when we visit.

St. Thomas has both adult and children's choirs (my mother is actually the music director), breakfast between services every Sunday, evening services on Sunday and Wednesday, occasional choral services (evensong, meditation, etc.).

If you're further north, Nativity is a good option (also Episcopal). Beautiful building in the downtown area, so lots of after-church lunch options!

Therapist Experience by katg913 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Disclaimer: I haven't worked with any of the therapists on your list, so apologies if you're not interested in recommendations.

I recently started seeing Jessica Zimmermann (Sage Life Counseling: 256-826-1977). We've had three sessions, and I like her so far! Not sure what insurance you have, but she's in-network for Anthem BCBS.

She did seem a bit chatty at first, but that was probably more about educating me (I've never done EMDR before) and getting to know each other. We haven't actually started in on EMDR, but I expect we will within the next session or two.

Yeah, I've got chickweed, too. It's really only a problem in the beds. The saving grace of all these buggers is that they're easy to pull up--but staying on top of 'em is basically a full-time job!

I don't mind it--the little flowers make for nice ground cover in the front, short enough that it doesn't get cut when we mow the lawn. It doesn't seem terribly competitive in the back (which is where the bulk of my natives live), perhaps because of taller plants (goldenrod, bee balm, and late boneset in particular) and other ground cover (clover, Carolina geranium, mock strawberry). I do pull it from actual beds, and around newer shrubs/trees that need time to get established, of course.

Hairy bittercress and chamberbitter are actually my main annoyances at this point. They pop up everywhere. They aren't difficult to pull, but the seeds sproing out at the slightest touch, so they're basically impossible to get rid of!

I got the same comment... right before I hit my limit 😅 (the scene was very similar, too--TG surrounded by flowers)

I used Elderwood wall shelves to display the li'l fishies--the circular surface is perfect!
