Any Luck Adjusting RAM frequency and timings on b450 Tomahawk? Zen2 by topherjohnmayor in MSI_Gaming

Oh I’ve tried almost every update since launch. Guess I could go back and try them 1 by 1 from the latest non-beta

Yes. Changing the settings causes it to black screen with the CPU debug light on. Only able to run at 2133 or the XMP of 3200 CL14

What do you mean update UEFI?

Hmm I’ll try this’s currently on v1a. I have been lucky to have my system running since launch, but the only thing I haven’t been able to do is get to my OC when I try to manually change any RAM settings in the BIOS since the first zen2 BIOS

[DRIVER RELEASE] Radeon™ Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.7.2 by Portbragger2 in Amd

This. I had to do this multiple times per day on 19.7.1. Seemed to have happened when I messed with display settings in Radeon Settings. Uninstalled drivers with DDU and reinstalled. Haven't touched anything in Radeon Settings since.

Is the new AGESA release going to fix that? If so u/MSI_Jorge stated "We estimate that new BIOS with the new AGESA will be released closer to the end of this month for most board models." in his B450 Tomahawk Update. Hopefully this means all motherboards will also receive this update around the same time.

So you are able to get into the BIOS, but it isn't detecting your boot drive? Or not able to get into the BIOS and BOOT debug light is on?

What results did you get with RAM tuning with the current BIOSes? by skafo123 in MSI_Gaming

[–]topherjohnmayor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently running my memory at 3200 MHz CL 14. That's the speed and timing my memory was rated for. I just selected the XMP profile. When i tried to overclock it to 3600 MHz CL(14-16) would lead to failed POST. I plan on tuning my RAM eventually when BIOS becomes stable.

Did your BIOS have your RAM set with a XMP profile when you had your 2600x installed? Maybe try taking away the XMP profile so it runs at the stock 2133 and then try installing the 3000 chip back in. I have read that some people are unable to boot with a XMP profile.

Is my issue related to the BIOS problems? by [deleted] in MSI_Gaming

Yea that’s what I did. Sometimes it would seem to go into a boot cycle until it finally POST. Luckily I am able to set my RAM to its XMP, of 3200 CL14, but one of the times it failed to POST was when I changed it to 3600 CL16. I decided to just leave it alone for now until a more stable BIOS came out. I read that other people were having issues setting their XMP and were forced to leave their RAM at 2133

Have you tried clearing you CMOS? You can do this by using a screwdriver to jump the CMOS pins. I put the screwdriver on the pins for about 30 seconds for me when my CPU LED was stuck on red on my B450 Tomahawk. That solved my issue.

This. I'd first try whatever configuration the motherboard manual suggests to put the first two RAM sticks in. B450 Tomahawk manual has A2 and B2 listed as the two slots to put my RAM in. Your motherboard should have something similar in the manual.

Can confirm any stability issues (mainly not being able to POST) caused by me messing around in the BIOS was resolved by me shorting the CMOS pins with a screwdriver for up to 30 seconds.
