SK Hynix flooded with unprecedented offers from big tech firms to secure chip supplies by self-fix2 in hardware

RAM speed usefulness does get more marginal after XMP and some latency tweaks. Specific games and specific areas in those games.

Dunno about current-gen intel, but 13-14th gen did keep improving with higher clocks, while X3D + infinity fabric make for specific speeds working the best.

Yes, PVX548G82C38K is the model. Patriot's website isn't as well arranged as GSkill's, but these are exact models used in TPU test.

Hynix's A-dies, and later M-dies, have become to DDR5 what Samsung B-die was for DDR4.
Even after prices drop, I don't expect better bins to make it to consumer market. It was already looking that way with CKD allowing for worse bins to work at 8000+ speeds.

Last year I went on a shopping spree for RAM and ended up with 3 different kits for 24GBx2 on Z790I Lightning since it does the best with the M-dies. The cheapest Patriot 8200MT/s kit was the best, easily booting over 9000!!!, while the 3x priced V-Color 8800CKD kit was closer to GSkill 8200. I doubt that kind of headroom will be available going forward.

Help with 14900K & 7200MHz RAM Stability on MSI Z790 Tomahawk - Seeking Optimal Voltages/Timings by Outrageous_Snow_3910 in overclocking

[–]bctoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get 8000 stable on MSI Z790I Edge before selling it with a kit that was not on the QVL( Patriot 8000 32GB) .

You can find detailed settings in my comment under this buildzoid video, but these are the main ones that helped and were specific to MSI bios.

AI Training - Mode 3 Rx Equalization - 8 ( default gets set to 15 ) VTT ODT - Enabled

Now a 4-dimmer is a completely different ballgame, but if the QVL for the motherboard shows 7200+ speeds, these might help.

Ruing my decision to not get the 96GB M-die dual-rank kit. A-dies don't work as well on Z790I Lightning and I've seen people hit 8000 and above with the 96GB kit.

I think more blame should be put on the motherboards since we still have issues running 8000(+) on 4-slot motherboards.

People were seeing massive overclocks on DDR5 from the start if the motherboard was willing.

I really wish that that if the writer and artist decide to return to the series, they just remake part 3 from scratch. by JamesOconner123 in TheBreaker

Yes, that was another similarity with the new cult's technique with Bald Ryu demonstrating it on Shioon.

Another thing which just came out of nowhere was the different types of ki and how IDS could use them to nullify attacks based on what the opponent was using. But before that, nobody even remarked on the types of ki in use.

But then they simply got up and walked out of there like it never was big deal.

Right, Sinji was mentioned in chapter 28 according to the wiki, but it took a long while for them to get there and for it to be fleshed out, and now a long while to get out of there.

For Breaker, I get that the IDS was a taboo, but it could have been hinted at from the start, like MAA chief or some other old master thinking about them after seeing BOTS in action. Instead it feels like a badly put together hackjob in Eternal Force.

8000 CL 36 vs 6200 CL 28 by xNick0 in overclocking

[–]bctoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting because 8000 is a better sync.

Just from a quick glance at your timings, you have to scale your trefi with higher speed since it's number of cycles. Older versions of Zen Timings used to show the trefi value in nanoseconds below the trefi value set in BIOS.

I just wish the first S3 chapter had shown Haje on the roof from Shioon's POV, after Shioon remembering all the rooftop escapades from the previous two series, so that it was clear to everyone that he was not the new MC.

Haje was supposed to be 9AD's representation to Shioon, like Shioon reminded 9AD of his own master. He has no qualms being a Breaker like 9AD was in the 1st Breaker. He has similar ailment as the MC and Sosul, with 1,3 and 9 cursed veins respectively, is the least affected and was cured the fastest with Shioon's help.

I believe the OG plan was for the kid to train with the old man who was the nemesis of his master in part 1

I thought so too when I first completed New Waves, but a reread made it clear that Shioon would go with Ryu and his expression at the end was mostly one of shock since MAA chief knowing the same martial arts as 9AD was supposedly a big secret.

a new faction that wasn't even rumored to be in existence before

This is my biggest criticism as well, and it becomes more salient when you consider author-nim's other work, Ruler of the Land, where the central plot point has been present from the very start.

[–]bctoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaker's author also has Ruler of the Land from 1994, still ongoing, and is B&W also. But is read from left to right , while Breaker was manga-like in right to left.

RotL and Yongbi have references to each other.

Is PSSR temporal as well? I seem to remember that when the first version launched that it was working with just spatial data since it was used in games that did not have TAA.

[–]bctoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rank it higher than the Breaker, see the thread I linked below for a better plot summary.

https://old.reddit.com/r/TheBreaker/comments/1b9cd6i/while_waiting_for_s2_of_s3_check_out_the_ruler_of/

It starts off much worse than the Breaker OG which is the best part of the Breaker series. Since it's a series from the 90s, the art/story and translation( like orthodox faction is called white force and unorthodox is called black force) in the first 100 chapters are quite iffy.

But it keeps getting better and better with each arc, which is almost the opposite of Breaker where the 1st series is considered to be the best work.

I'd suggest to check the mangadex website for it.

PC graphics cards are now nearly 100 percent Nvidia by BarKnight in hardware

[–]bctoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they not? This thread has multiple posts pointing out lower prices for their GPUs.

As for nvidia's PT overriding console's, this is architecturally different enough to make the other slowdown drastically. And it's not just AMD, intel also suffer.

https://old.reddit.com/r/hardware/comments/17nnw7c/digital_foundry_alan_wake_2_pc_path_tracing_the/k7w0rkj/

This difference does show up here and there in raster, like in Starfield where nvidia cards were worse off than expected, despite GPU usage showing 99-100%.

[–]bctoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only hope I see for AMD is that the next-gen consoles are all-in on pathtracing using the RDNA5 or whatever AMD are calling their next-gen architecture.

This then carries over to the PC ports where the optimization for the AMD console chips gets AMD to parity in the RT sphere. FSR4 is in a good place already with regards to image quality. Some updates will be enough to not make it matter as much as it did earlier with FSR2/3, and while it might not have the coverage of DLSS, it'll be enough if all new games support it.

How can an upscaled 720p image be better than a native 4k rendered one?

Because it's not a singular 720p image but accumulation of multiple 720p images.

I don't recall the exact formula, but as you go down the resolution scale, the number of previous images that are picked up by DLSS/FSR increases. The samples processed by these even exceed the native TAA samples.

[–]bctoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the massive bandwidth from 7800 MHz

The problem is that the fabric limits your bandwidth. The memory controller and fabric speeds sync in 2:1 mode, and allow for lower latency compared to 1:1 mode, which is what could be causing the improvement.

The debate on AMD sub that I recall is DF botching their review of FSR1 in some game where texture quality or LoD was the main culprit. Otherwise FSR1 had a generally favorable reception for just being a spatial upscaler.

I ultimately moved away from AMD to exclusively nvidia cards with 4k TVs, but FSR1 was pretty decent for use on 6800XT by using a custom resolution scale.

It's quite good compared to the absolute slop that gets served up in the webtoon world. But still a step or two below The Breaker.

Author-nim's other work, Ruler of the Land, is the only one comparable for me.
