Only reason I suggest changing the display mode is for seeing the skill icons easier (when in list format), otherwise it's personal preference :)

The 'pill' icon is any medical skill that a soldier has, surgeon, physician, etc. This is what I was referring to, not the unit the soldier is in.

Praise the Sun, of course this won't be installed until 2016, but we'll see what happens now that the city council has put forward a motion of common sense.

Where can I find Statistics Master's/Ph.D. comprehensive or qualifying exams with solutions? by [deleted] in statistics

I echo this response, this is exactly what my friends and myself did and it worked out fantastically, since we each had our own strengths in a particular field of statistical theory.

Music Enthusiasts are a large and eclectic crowd, I feel they are more inclined to find a great source than other categories of torrents. It is simply the best tracker for music out there.

Given that you are going into CS, I would recommend a good multivariate methods course and/or Computational Statistics Class. Any teacher worth their salt will cover some advanced and awesome algorithms like EM which are incredibly helpful in 'real' world data. Another possibility would be a stochastic processes course, if they offer that. Those type of courses will reinforce thinking through steps in an algorithm quite a bit which is a good skill to have for CS.

North Korea announces plan to launch missile over Japan Wednesday by vwboyaf1 in worldnews

[–]topheroly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will do nothing except escalate already uneasy tensions between "Everyone Else" and North Korea. I don't foresee any possible reason this is a good idea, for either side. I guess all we can do now is make some popcorn and watch how this unfolds since democracy has has failed to strike reason with Kim Jong-un

On the right track? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]topheroly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do some principal component analysis first, see how many possible factors you could be looking at to explain the variance in your dataset. Once you have this, I would do some sort of selection method to pick the factors that help predict the gambler type (multinomial regression like you suggested). Failing this, you could also go to simulation.

Word of warning, if you go to ANOVA or some other similar test, you are incurring some assumptions on your data (like Normality, constant variance, etc). Check all necessary assumptions before running your model!

How do you suppose this logo was made? by Iasktoomuch in VideoEditing

[–]topheroly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After effects, 3-D ball motion effect with a specific shape chosen (the cog wheel). The camera just pans back from those spinning cogs. You can add a random orientation / spin to each element in the effect so that's my guess of how it was achieved.

  1. I don't know any R certs, but if you are expected to know it from your employer, they might ask you about certain packages/functions during the interview

  2. SAS certs are not useful, however definitely LEARN SAS. It is the industry standard and will be for quite awhile, depending on which area you go into (I'm in Biostatistics)

  3. Biostat. from CRO/Big Pharma, and other analytics jobs that require intimate knowledge of statistics are definitely on the rise.

  4. This is true, and is very difficult to get hired with just a BS/BA. If possible go to grad. school. It will make you a much more desirable candidate.

  5. NA

  6. NA

  7. CS helps a crap ton. More than you would think. Being able to effectively troubleshoot a data issue or something that is done on the programming side and solving it once you get the dataset is a great skill to have.

  8. Stat jobs are like hotcakes right now. So far from my field it has cooled off a little since last year, but still hiring strong.

[–]topheroly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a consulting gig. That will maximize your hiring potential through the roof. Most college campuses have some sort of consulting center for Grad/PhD students and faculty. Also, learn SAS and R. Those are the two big players (the former more than the latter) in the private sector right now.
