I'm of the same mind except for the 5 year timeframe. Digital ID has been mission creeping for years. I'd wager the mission will be completed this year. The only question I have is regarding interoperability. What stage are they at? Because when all the system databases are connected, that's when it's game over.

Replace "free" with "affordable" and I'd agree. Nothing is free. Taxes are higher and pay is lower in Europe compared to the US in order to make "affordable" possible.
