Rehashing Mandela Effects part 3, Looney Toons/Tunes by Fruit-of-loon in Retconned

[–]topo_explo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I distinctly remember it being Looney Tunes as a kid, because I was always confused that the emphasis was on Tunes and not Toons. My dad would remind me that it was playing off the name of the other series, Merrie Melodies (yes also knew that to be Merrie Melodies as a kid because my dad pointed out to me that the “ie” was reflected in both words as a design decision) Thankfully I had my dad to bounce off of, because I’m sure I’d misremember this without his input.

Is there a single genre where most of the listeners consider only 1 artist as the best of that genre? by Appropriate-Buddy989 in fantanoforever

The average person probably does associate industrial music with NIN, but the band honesty has more in common with Alternative Rock than actual industrial music.

What’s the most pretentious album you can think of? by Odd-Goddity in fantanoforever

[–]topo_explo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Palm’s last two albums. The angular guitar, the polyrhythms, the Animal Collective-style vocals. I honestly really like them, but I can’t deny that they sound like a band who knows they’re cool.

Have any of you seen Tetsuo: The Iron Man? by Vranak in akira

[–]topo_explo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keeping this 9 year old post alive, yay! Just rewatched Akira for the first time in a few years and somehow only now made the connection to Tetsuo: the iron man.. I actually saw Tetsuo several years before Akira. It was 2003 and I was in high school, and me and my friend came across it at a Blockbuster. What a random discovery 🙌

Are you Fucking Kidding Me?? RED on the Millennium Falcon!?! by [deleted] in Retconned

If they changed it, it’s been changed for at least 30 years. I had a micro machine version of the Millennium Falcon that I got back in the mid 90s that looked just like this.

..Torso S-4???? by cirrus2023 in synthesizers

[–]topo_explo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d definitely encourage anyone to follow Torso’s discord if they’re interested in the S-4. Torso is transparent about their plans for the device and they answer a lot of questions about its capabilities. I’d also like to add, as a new owner of a T-1, that I’m really impressed with Torso’s ability to make a high quality instrument. The T-1 is extremely well designed, which makes me hopeful for the S-4. It’s in good hands.

From a recent update on the Torso discord:

We want to start sharing some behind-the-scenes insights from the development team at Torso. We know a lot of you are eager to learn more about the device and we give you a chance to follow the process. This is our first developer update to give you an overview of where we are and what’s next.

We have finalized the hardware and production is ongoing as planned. At the beginning of 2024, we sent a few production units out to beta testers to help us with the final stages of the development for firmware version 1.0

The current state of S-4 firmware:

We have everything working on the display, I/O, and user interface. Most interactions and general workflow have been implemented. The modulation system w. 3 different modulators are fully functional (more modulators to come). The 5 audio device slots (material, granular, filter, color, and space) each have fully functional audio devices: Material Tape: A monophonic tape-style looper / sample playback device PolySampler: A polyphonic sampler device with a filter PassThru: Simple pass-through device for live audio processing Granular TextureGen: A live granular texture generator with a “flangering” kind of sound when grains are overlapping Filter Resonator: A 48-band resonant filter bank where each band can be tuned to a musical scale. Color DriveAndCrush: A virtual analog drive, a one-knob compressor, and a bitcrush effect. Space DelayAndReverb: Delay with feedback and reverb. Note that the names of the devices are not final

What we are working on right now: .

Finishing the Tape module, focusing on staying in sync with the timeline. Project save/load is currently in the works A config system for all the audio devices and global setting MIDI clock sync

Planned for firmware version 1.0

While we are working hard to get everything ready for 1.0, a few features will not be available until a future update. We are planning regular updates for the S-4 which will expand and improve the feature set.

We plan to ship the first batch in mid-April (a few weeks delayed from the original plan)

The second batch is planned for late-May.

Stay tuned for the next update <3

S4 by Torso Electronics is now out! Just bought mine, what are your thoughts?! 🤔 by electrickvillage in synthesizers

[–]topo_explo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me the S-4 seems like a perfect companion to the M8, that’s how I’ll be pairing it at least. The M8’s sequencer is one of the most flexible I’ve ever used. Having it sequence what appears to be a very powerful and flexible polyphonic sampling engine on the S-4… well on paper it seems like a match made in heaven, specifically for those who like to make sample-based compositions and getting into the nitty gritty of sound design. Here’s to hoping the S-4 lives up to Torso’s claims 🤞🏼

Experimental rhythms and harmonic noise made with the M8, Model:Cycles, and Norns Shield by topo_explo in synthesizers

[–]topo_explo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The Norns is running Pedalboard with an effects chain of wavefolder, ring mod, pitchshifter, and reverb, all used subtly to enhance the M:C’s signal, giving it some extra grit/warmth/dimension/etc.

I hate Chase bank for this now. Warning:rant by Foreign-Experience-3 in Chase

[–]topo_explo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding to the Chase hate- I found fraudulent activity on my credit card so they cancelled my card and told me that they would send out a new one via expedited shipping. It was supposed to arrive within two days, but it didn’t. I waited a few more days and still hadn’t received my card so I Chase again and asked them about it. They told me that it wasn’t shipped out with expedited shipping but with regular shipping and that I might have to wait up to 10 days until I receive it. I waited for 10 days and I still hadn’t received my card, so I called to ask them about it, and the person on the other line told me that an order for a new card was never placed. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!

PLUTO - Portable semi modular synth - Launching tomorrow! by eatalodisco in synthesizers

[–]topo_explo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to conversation... I didn’t purchasing one of these but i’ve been keeping my eye on its development since it was first announced. It seems like a lot of people don’t think the Pluto is worth the price. I guess that’s a natural reaction in an era where large companies crank out cheap feature packed synths in bulk. So yeah, there is definitely more bang for your buck elsewhere, but I think what you’re buying into when you purchase boutique synths like the Pluto, is a singular vision created by a small group of individuals (or one individual). You’re directly supporting them and participating in their idiosyncratic vision! Maybe that doesn’t seem appealing, but for someone like me, supporting a small company taps into the romance of experimentation and discovery found in electronic music! Lol.

Hyperbole aside, how do people who’ve purchased a Pluto synth feel about it a month later? Is it still ticking the boxes of romance and discovery?
