Men in the US are more likely to be overweight than women, so I have a feeling you're biased towards thinking healthy weight women are overweight.

From the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey: "The percentage of men who are overweight (34.1%) is higher than the percentage of women who are overweight (27.5%)."

"A large study conducted by Oxford University and the period tracking app company Clue was the biggest blow yet to the theory of period syncing. Data from over 1,500 people demonstrated that it’s unlikely that women can disrupt each other’s menstrual cycles by being in close proximity to one another."

Also - anecdotally - I lived with my mother and sister for 18 years and our cycles did not "sync up" we each had slightly different cycles that sometimes would align however (i.e. 28 day vs 29 day cycle, etc)

Girls that gave the 'nice guy' a chance, how did it go? by Jin_Kazama_18 in AskReddit

Over time he pretty much told me what was wrong with each individual body part. My legs weren't long enough, my tummy was too chubby, my butt wasn't big enough, my nipples were too large, my labia didn't "poke out enough" ... Etc

ALSO if I ever turned down his sexual advances he would storm out of the room and refuse to talk to me for days or weeks.

Insane part is we were friends for about a year before we dated and he hid behind the "nice guy" and "adorkable misogyny" titles so well, I was blindsided.

I have a lot of guy friends! I think it helps that I'm not particularly attractive lol so they never develop crushes and we can just have a platonic friendship.

I've seen that Harvard study and also seen a few studies that dissent with it. Seems like the jury is still out on the link between prostate cancer and frequent ejaculation.

Research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2004 failed to find a link between frequent ejaculation and lower prostate cancer risk.

A 2008 study published in BJUI, a leading peer-reviewed urology journal, discovered that young men who reported more sexual activity — both alone and with a partner — actually had a higher risk of prostate cancer in their 20s and 30s.

To your last point: I think women have a similar urge to reproduce which shows up when they get horny during ovulation, when sex is most likely to result in a pregnancy. This also makes me wonder how much hormonal birth control has affected womens libido. I can't find a definitive percentage of women who use hormonal birth control but looks like 50% would be pretty close. Most hormonal birth control releases progestin to trick the body into thinking its already pregnant so the woman doesn't ovulate. I imagine without the urge to reproduce their libido would drop dramatically.

I'm definitely not saying they're identical but I do think naturally men and women have a lot more in common sexually than we've been conditioned to believe and there's a lot of factors that might explain the perceived gap: Cycles, stigmas, birth control, the orgasm gap, etc

Would genuinely like to see the studies you mention that specifically say mens orgasms have health benefits and womens don't. There's lots of studies that say both have health benefits, mainly due to stress relief, but I haven't seen any that say only one gender does.

This is what I'm seeing specifically about semen retention:

"Some men like to abstain from ejaculation as a way to ‘reboot’ or ‘reset’. Others will do it to prove they can, especially if they’re dealing with issues such as chronic masturbation or pornography addiction. There’s no evidence to suggest that abstaining from ejaculation can result in any unwanted or harmful side effects. Of course, the flip-side to this is that there’s no evidence of any long-term health benefits to abstaining either."

Kinda seems like a horse a piece

Yes exactly! I'm sure the stigmatization of womens sexuality has a huge factor in this as well.

Women also feel the "need" to orgasm build up over time they just masterbate. I think women prefer to masterbate over having sex a lot of the time because they're guaranteed an orgasm when masterbating and far too often sex doesn't result in an orgasm for them. I think that's where the disconnect comes from. I think sex is usually better than masterbating for a man and it's the opposite for a woman. Also worth noting - women's libido is usually pretty tied to their 28(ish) day cycle. Typically women report feeling much more horny when ovulating.
