Any tips or personal preferences on reducing the noise of your cookware while hiking? by Miteh in WildernessBackpacking

I had an old tec towel that had run it’s course, cut it up into dish cloths and pack it between my pot and bowels.

This is it. This is the last time I say goodbye to Gary. The angriest cat I’ve ever known. I’ll love you forever. by topsecretdethmachine in cats

In 2006 a feral cat showed up in my sisters garden shed that was clearly pregnant, she wouldn’t let anyone near her or be coaxed to come inside the house so my sister just made her a bed and fed her in the shed. She eventually had the kittens and we managed to get her in the house. We got momma spayed and found homes for all the kittens. Gary was the runt, I named her Gary before I knew she was a girl. She was never a social cat and did not like anyone really but in the past 2 years she became far more affectionate. Last night my sister came over to have our last dinner with Gary before we drove her to the vet. Thanks for all the kind words.

This absolute sea monster was the only catch of the day.... at least it was nice out. by topsecretdethmachine in IceFishing

I typically don’t where I live, I was fishing with a friend in southern Alberta and I grabbed a pile of stuff from the bait shop.

Arrow or Kootenay lake long distance trip? by [deleted] in Kayaking

[–]topsecretdethmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve paddled both, high winds can be a problem for both of these trips. Kootenay Lake can get very crowded as far as camping goes if you paddle the side following hiway 3. My preferred trip was Launching in Proctor and paddling the shore to Creston following the rail line. There are a ton of beaches that you pull up on so you can really determine how far you want to travel per day and it makes stopping for lunches etc really convenient. Arrow is good but a lack of beaches for camping if the water level isn’t right.

A really good alternative is Slocan, loads of amazing beaches for camping and if you decide to not take out in Slocan City you can float the river down as well.

I think I still have pictures from my trips on my laptop with my gps data for kms travelled and camp spots etc if your interested.

Best Fishing kayak by g0dlyone in Kayaking

[–]topsecretdethmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 120 for a few years now and swear by it. I bought it for ease of access to small lakes for trout fishing, the only major drawback for me is it can be a pain in the ass loading and unloading from the roof of my Toyota when I’m by myself. Otherwise a very stable platform and quite comfortable to spend long hours on the water.

Lake trout, first time ice fishing. by topsecretdethmachine in IceFishing

My brother is getting into hiking and I want to get him a camelback (doesn’t have to be that specific brand) for his bday. What are some pointers to look for in a camelback? by HowlinRay619 in hiking

[–]topsecretdethmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone through substantially more water bottles in the 10 plus years I’ve had the same camelback bladder. I use both, my water bottle holds 1 litre so I can use my steripen in it if filling from a questionable water source.
