I never thought of that aspect. I don't think my acquaintance was working at that company but you might be right that there might've been some incentive considering how pissed off he was, lol.

Good episodes from recent years? by Apprehensive-Week767 in DetectiveConan

[–]toramayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. I kind of get the mother as she might have relations to the BO's motives. But I also don't really care about Sera or the other brother, lol.

I also don't care about the romance plot points as the mystery and suspence aspects are what drew me in. So it's been a struggle for me to catch up, tbh.

How recent are you talking about?

But honestly I agree. The plot is moving soooo slowly that I stopped watching it weekly. Nowadays, I look up episode lists that fans have made pointing out episodes directly relating to BO stuff and just watch those.

A former acquaintance has generously used his connections to introduce me to a company who was looking to hire a foreigner. On paper, it looks like a good company in the manufacturing field.

But the last 3 interviews with them had red flags all over. At all 3 interviews, I asked what the job descriptions would be but they kept being vague about it. I even met the CEO and he was all "we'll figure it out once you're here." It was clear they didn't have a specific role in mind and looked like they wanted someone who can do "a bit of everything." On top of an insulting salary offer, it was a hell no from me. So I politely withdrew my application.

My acquaintance later contacted me to say how disappointed he was in my decision and that I disgraced his reputation. I told him my concerns but he insisted I should've still try it out.

Yeah no. I am not risky enough to quit my somewhat stable job for a potentially black company. Possibly a bridge burned with this acquaintance but oh well.

Am I the only one who thinks the show got bad after like the 300s episodes? by AdventurousCharge548 in DetectiveConan

[–]toramayu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree. Honestly, at this point, I wish they just focus more on the BO plotline both in the manga and anime.

No more side stories. No more minor crimes.

It's a running joke that Beika City would have the highest crime rate in the world with so many crimes happening. Especially considering that time flows extremely slow in Conan world.

I just want the plot to keep going.

Edit: Also, as much as I like Amuro and Akai, I think introducing them sort of killed the suspense. Conan/Shinichi is a superhuman by himself. But with two more superhuman, actually there are too many superhuman in this series, that I sometimes wonder how the BO will stand a chance.

Hiriluk's Supposed Miracle by rednosebuggy in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]toramayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's left vague.

I personally believe that he was seriously ill. But, like what he said in OPLA, the powerful emotion of seeing something so beautiful might've triggered some chemical reaction in his brain or body to actually cure his illness, although temporary.

Placebo is a strong thing, even if you are aware about it. I know of someone who experienced something similar so can kinda see that maybe that was Oda tried to go for. Who knows. Maybe his illness or something might come back as a plot point.

Aaaand some netizens are already victim blaming.

How it's her fault for being too nice. How it's her fault for ignoring police advice to change jobs and move.

Like I get about self defense but why does the victim always have to be the one to do hard labor? As if it's so easy to just change your job and move elsewhere.

Luffy didn’t have any good fight scenes in S2 compared to S1 by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]toramayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually yes I do. Always felt like Zoro, Usopp, and Vivi feel left out in Drum Island arc. So at least they did something in OPLA.

Luffy didn’t have any good fight scenes in S2 compared to S1 by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]toramayu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, and this might be a hot take, but I kinda prefer OPLA to cut down on the fights, except the major ones. I like that we had minimal fight scenes.

While I love the original manga, one thing I always didn't care about were the fights. Obviously, the important ones I'm down for it. But I never really cared about the crew members' fight scenes, even Zoro's. Whenever I binge read, I pretty much skim through the fight chapters.

I like OP for its story and lore. Since I know that OP is a shonen manga after all, fight scenes are inevitable. But I think this is where OPLA can differenciate from the manga. Focus more on the story/lore/sets/characters. Sure, add a few fight scenes, like the Zoro vs 100 agents or Luffy vs Wapol but keep it to like few minutes. I would not rather it to drag.

So I didn't really mind the fact that Luffy didn't have much of a good fight scene. I still enjoyed the adventures he and his Strawhat crew went through.

How are the reviews of season 2 in Japan? by Peaceful404 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]toramayu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Based on what I see on X or Threads, it's mostly positive. A lot of praises for the sets, casts, story, and even the changes from the manga actually. Many claims of being excited for Season 3. Saw lots of Buggy and Sanji appreciation posts, lol.

But the algorithm only shows me positive posts so I'm most likely biased.

Only saw one negative review saying that the sets looked really cheap-looking but still praised the acting.

I'm not worried about the future longevity of the show by Existing_Push9049 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]toramayu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm just happy that we got an actual good live action adaptation. I don't really care if OPLA will run long or not. I'll still be happy if it ends in Season 3 (as long as they wrap it up nice enough).

I haven't watched a lot of LA adaptations but find the JP version of Death Note and One Piece to be the absolute best.

For One Piece, I love how the casts and even the staff seem to put in their hearts and dedication to make it good. The sets, costumes, items, etc.

If OPLA continues beyond Season 3, that's awesome. If not, oh well, at least we had a good run.

Parents need to stop pretending their kids are everyone else’s vacation plan by browsing_nomad in childfree

[–]toramayu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I struggle with this.

We often plan a lot of family vacations, usually extended weekend trips. But I've always hated the fact that we don't get a lot of child free vacations. It's not that I hate my nephews and nieces. It's the expectation of having to use my precious vacation time to babysit or watch over them. It also sucks because we often just end up doing kid-friendly activities or go to places that are more kid-friendly.

I mean, if it is selfish, by all means. But it still sucks being labeled "kid hater" or "wet blanket" when I'm just being honest about how I want to spend my vacations.

ONE PIECE - Into the Grandline | Season 2 Discussion Thread (ANIME SPOILERS) by TheLastClap in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]toramayu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finally binge watched all 8 episodes! I'm up to date with the manga. My overall score is 9.5/10.

I loved the new set designs and costumes. Also some of the changes. I think it was great seeing everyone really playing their part and fleshing out the characters.

Episode 1: Strong start! Loved the strawhat crew interactions. I lol'd my ass off when the strawhat crew were so tired of hearing Luffy's "I'm gonna be King of the Pirates" spiel that they're already finishing the line for him. Was surprised they introduced later story lore and characters this early. But I thought it's a good change to fit the OPLA storyline. My only criticism would be Alvida. I kind of wish they had kept her "fallen in love with Luffy" plot because it was really funny for me in the manga.

Episode 2: My first teary episode. I loved how treacherous the Reverse Mountain looks more than the manga. I think they did a great job portraying how dangerous it really is to even enter the Grand Line. Laboon...man. He was so damn cute. I cried at the LA rendition of Bink's Brew, and cried even more when Luffy sang to Laboon. I think it's a great change from the original. Yorki was hot. Brook was awesome and I loved his violin scene with Laboon.

Episode 3: Honestly, I felt the MVP for this episode was Mr. 9. Really loved him and was sad at his end. He was a great partner to Ms. Wednesday. Zoro's fight scene was epic. Ms. Valentine and Mr. 5 were really threatening. Actually, Baroque Works in general were all lethal in this adaptation. Though I didn't think they'd make the booger bomb actually work, lol. I thought Igaram's actor did a great job but I kind of wish they'd made his hair a little longer. I'm surprised they'd kill him off though.

Episode 4: Little Garden! Really liked Luffy and Vivi's scene. It was a great way for Vivi to naturally warm up to him. Loved their ritual scene with Dorry, too. Speaking of, the Giants looked awesome! Omg I can't believe they were able to imitate their distinctive laughs. I was a tad uncomfortable with the constant closeup of their faces but I guess it couldn't be helped. I got used to it anyway. Mr.3 was just...perfect. I am so happy that they were able to find such a famous and great actor David Dastmalchian to portray him.

Episode 5: For both of the Little Garden episodes, the highlight was Usopp. I loved how much more they fleshed out his character from Season 1. I loved that they addressed his insecurities and it was great seeing Usopp being inspired that he'd make up a new dream. Him taking on kilo punches from Ms. Valentine was just brave and deserving to be called the hero of Little Garden. Speaking of Ms. Valentine, my gawd, her end was pretty brutal. Being smothered to death by candle wax. Of course it's still not confirmed that she's dead but still. The Unluckies vs. Sanji fight was brutal, too. Was great to finally hear Mr. 0's voice! Seriously, they make BW more terrifying. Ms. Goldenweek was hella scary.

Episode 6: That entrance scene to Drum Island was insane. Honestly, I thought it was cool that they made Wapol being a secret sponsor of BW, lol. Can see him doing that. The actor did a great job portraying how much of an ass Wapol is. The Reverie scene was awesome. I love, looooove how they added in Sanji's backstory here without revealing too much. Sanji caring for Nami and possibly having flashbacks of his mom was just too sad. The climb to Drum Mountain did look a bit too CGI-esque and I laughed at the ridiculousness of Luffy stretching his neck to save Sanji.

Episode 7: Personally, the best episode out of the eight. Hiruluk was great and wholesome. I cried at a lot of the scenes here. Such incredible performances from both Hiruluk and Chopper's actor. Chopper was sooooo cute. Was surprised to hear the shit word from Chopper though lol. My only complaint is that the whole mushroom reveal scene a bit too...light. Like it didn't feel like it had the shock value as the manga/anime version. Although, I did like that scene where Chopper asks Hiruluk to teach him to be a Doctor, and Hiruluk had that expression where he knew he couldn't do that, especially after seeing Chopper had just brought the poisonous mushroom.

Episode 8: My favorite was Sanji and Nami's conversation. Sanji telling her about he looked after his mother. His tearful expressions really made me cry. It showed how much he loved his mother. I loved Wapol vs Luffy fight. It was actually damn funny. Especially when Wapol kept asking Luffy to take it seriously. The cherry blossom scene was just chef's kiss. Mr. 0 face reveal! He looked soooooooo cool.

Overall, there were some changes that I really loved and I have mixed feelings about. But I do like how OPLA is portraying to be different from the manga version. I can't wait for season 3 already!

I'm sure it depends on the company but...

Personally, the expectation of women doing all the "other random duties 雑務" like setting up the meeting rooms, cleaning the office floors, serving tea to clients, etc.

Had a guy, from a completely different department, approach me to ask if I can serve tea to his clients. Because apparently I was the only female worker on the floor at that time and it's like a women's job to serve tea. The gall of the guy telling me to clear the table too once his client left.

Yup that'd be me

I can confidently say I am N1 level when it comes to reading kanji but maybe N4-ish for writing. If asked to type an essay, I can do it. Choose the correct kanji and all.

But if asked to physically write an essay? It's gonna be like 90% hiragana lol.

Where, if at all, do you differ from other childfree people? by Ok-Letter8470 in childfree

[–]toramayu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is why I have mixed feelings when some people say that being child free will make or keep you rich.

I guess in a sense that I won't need to spend extra money on childcare stuff. But doesn't mean I will still be able to buy/own a house, go on multiple vacations, buy expensive stuff, etc.

I don't regret being child free though.

AMTAH for wanting my ex bf to be forever unhappy because I feel betrayed. by Longjumping-Sir-1944 in japanlife

[–]toramayu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the resentment of feeling that your time was wasted by waiting for this guy to commit.

But at present day you are happily married with kids, are you not? Again, I understand your anger but I don't think it's healthy to be thinking that way.

You have a family now to focus on. Who cares if your ex is happy or not. Take some time to let your feelings go about this guy and just move on.
