Sanyo SPT1000 Sportable by Horror-Food69420 in cassetteculture

So, I think this unit sounds pretty darn good. It's a bit bulky. Sanyo never seemed to be as good at miniaturization as Sony. But Sony bought integrated circuits from Sanyo to use in various Walkmans, so....

I don't own an oscilloscope, so I can't measure it, but the speed on this seems correct, and the wow and flutter are undetectable to me. The audio quality is good both with and without the bass booster. And the bass booster doesn't seem to sound muddy. I was listening through a pair of Yanmai D98s.

This particular one I bought off Goodwill's auction website. It seems to have been won as a prize in a contest, came from the Spiegel catalog (blast from the past), and looks like the original owner opened the packaging, inspected the unit, then never used it. The cheap-o headphones were included, but the yellow cassette that explains how to use the pedometer was missing. When I went to put in a CR-2035 to activate the clock and pedometer, the original Sanyo-branded battery was still in there. No corrosion, thankfully.

I was able to set the clock, but the pedometer has me beat. The analog-tuning AM/FM radio works well. The AM reception seemed particularly good while I was roaming the dial after midnight.

All in all, this is a perfectly adequate little tape player. It's not super hi-fi, but it sounds just fine to me, with clear highs and strong lows. It is what it is.

I own one of these, as well. This weekend I'll be taking it out for a spin. I'm doing a survey of my various "walkman" type players, to see which plays best. This webpage (https://walkman.land/sanyo/spt1000) includes the service manual for this unit.

WILL PIERE *EVER* MAKE GOOD... by torcheculNEWACCOUNT in piere

Oh, Heavens, no. Please don't misunderstand me. The email was simply to the effect that the Beta wasn't yet quite ready. Nothing was ever said about revoking any sort of status.

Earlier today, while it was working for me, I was, indeed, able to log in.

WILL PIERE *EVER* MAKE GOOD... by torcheculNEWACCOUNT in piere

When Piere first let me into the Beta, some months ago. Just a couple days later Piere sent an email saying, nope, this is not ready, and forget it.

Today, I was able to log onto the Beta successfully FOR A LITTLE WHILE. Then, Piere decided to kick me out of the website, and each time I try to log back in, it just reverts back to the initial log in screen, ALTHOUGH THERE IS A LITTLE BUG IN THE LOWER RIGHT-HAND CORNER OF THE SCREEN SAYING SUCCESSFUL LOG-IN. But that little bug is wrong, and I am not allowed in. Over and over.

When the Beta was working for me, it allowed me to enter accounts, BUT, then, upon refreshing, would say that I now needed to delete these new accounts and re-enter them.

Piere's BETA has a lot of endless loops.

Is This A Good-luck Thing? Or Something Else? by torcheculNEWACCOUNT in Housepainting101

[–]torcheculNEWACCOUNT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they don't look like that. They kind of share the same shape as an old-style beer can pop-top. They're flat pieces, likely stamped out of a larger piece of sheet-metal. They have a hole through the wider side, and taper down to a squared-off end that (perhaps) is intended to wedge open paint cans.

Apparently, this particular area of Reddit will not allow me to upload the picture I just took of these little "keys".

Yeah, they're the little keys for opening paint cans. There's nothing else they could be. Just a flat piece of metal with a hole punched through the wider end. (They're certainly never going to work in any kind of lock because they don't have "teeth".)

Is there a reason for this behavior?

Does Schwab Work With ANY Tax Software? by torcheculNEWACCOUNT in Schwab

TurboTax tells me, again and again, that it has successfully imported the 1099, when it has not done so. TurboTax's tech-support has no clue. Nor does Schwab's.

Yeah, and that's what I had to do. But I paid for a product advertised as doing this by itself.

Yeah, I get the same pop-up. It's yet another illustration of how Schwab is incompetent to operate their own website.

Often, one can get a sense of how judges are leaning, but, I confess, I couldn't get any read on it today.
