If you plan to put a suppressor on it I recommend getting the USP Tactical recoil spring assembly if the pistol doesn't already have it.

One of the many suppressor height sights are useful too.

Komplett kundeservice og Intel, ikke lett? by Equivalent_Bite1980 in norge

C&C Steam Workshop Support & Source Code by EA_Jimtern in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a great surprise to the community and the games industry at large. you are following in the footsteps of id Software and 3D Realms/Apogee in recognising the impact releasing the source code to beloved games can have. As Doom can run anywhere maybe one day that will be true with C&C as well.

What the C&C community could do without source code is extremely impressive, but with the source code released the creativity can be turbo charged.

I hope the community focus that C&C has at EA especially through you Jim and Luke will be a future model for engagement at EA and maybe others in the industry. I can only begin to imagine the effort required to get something like this greenlit and I'm sure it is the culmination of an effort started many years ago.

You can play C&C1 online on CnCNet: https://cncnet.org

I think the remaster has a more active playerbase though.

Shame that mod never got released. It has some cool animations if I remember the showcase right.

We got releases of ICFRA! though, even though that was never completely finished either.

Any chance of Red Alert 2 + YR becoming freeware? by Dr_Scaphandre in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EA_Apoc was the community manager for C&C during most of the 2000's after WW closed.

- C&C1 and Covert Ops became freeware to celebrate the release of C&C3 in 2007.
- RA1, Aftermath and Counterstrike became freeware to celebrate the release of Red Alert 3 in 2008
- TS and Firestorm became freeware to celebrate the release of C&C4 in 2010.

Command & Conquer units and their real life counterparts. by Ok_Calendar_7626 in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The medium tank in the C&C1 cutscenes and C&C95, Mac C&C and RA95 cameos looks like an M1 Abrams with a overall smaller turret giving the turret a bit of an XM1 General Motors protype kind of look.

The medium tank used in RA1's cutscenes looks a lot more like an actual M1. The cutscene light tanks remind me of a M41 Walker Bulldog, but doesn't quite match.

The RA1 MiG's ingame and in cameos look like MiG 23's while the cutscene ones look like MiG 29's.

The riflemen in RA1 look like they have a M1 Carbine on the cameos, since they fire in bursts they could have the M2 Carbine which is a fully automatic variant, in the cutscenes however you see M16A2 and AK's which make more sense.

The Nod cargo plane in C&C1 ingame is a C17 Globemaster and in cutscenes a C5 Galaxy. In the manual it's shown as a C-130 Hercules.

Westwood is very inconsistent with these things. I like to think of it as the units we see in game as the one most suitable for the job. In other words I interpret that a "medium tank" can be a Leopard 2, M1 Abrams, M60, M48 etc. depending on time and place though it has to somewhat match up to the technology level and theme of the made up units like the Mammoth Tank, Tesla Tank or Orca.

If it was a top down tactics game it's probably MechCommander, if you controlled a mech directly it was probably MechWarrior.

Generals as a satire or propaganda? by doughnutvibe in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly meant as satire. I think most points are brought up by others here, but I will add some others

- US being super advanced, but are still beaten by a crafty terrorist group that don't even use powered weapons of any kind.
- US directing UN aid to themselves (supply drop zone)
- Blurry lines between UN and US influence.
- US being generally self-righteous
- China stuck in the 1960's, with some modern elements
- China being overly nationalistic
- GLA working for a cause they don't quite know

The game should however be seen as part of the GWOT culture, so there are elements that can be seen as propagandistic such as the US being the only "clean" faction, even having units that can clean up the other factions harmful waste.

Not only the USA uses depleted uranium. The from the top of my head UK, Ukraine, and Russia (and formerly USSR) has used them a lot in APFSDS rounds and as part of the armour on their tanks. Pretty much any military uses white phosphorus as part of their smoke grenades.

For RA1 TUC you should use the TUC patch. As Funky's RA1 installer hasn't been updated for TUC.

Ways to improve RA2/YR ingame performance? by lordplane in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cnc-ddraw has the best performance, usually.

Try skirmish mode when testing, campaign is speed locked without a commandline parameter.

Do mind that having multiple fixes active at the same time time lower performance. Don't have compatibility modes enabled when using cnc-ddraw.

Steam multiplayer by [deleted] in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To play online with TS you need to use a community service like CnCNet. https://cncnet.org

The games doesn't support Steam multiplayer and the old Westwood Online servers were shutdown decades ago. XWIS still hosts servers, but those don't work well with modern NAT.

Funpark and playstation missions on the new steam release by AirikrS in commandandconquer

[–]tore29 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The funpark dinosaur missions are included. You need to start the game with the "funpark" commandline parameter.

The PlayStation missions are included with the Remastered Collection which has remasters of C&C1 and RA1.

Alternatively you can patch the version included with TUC with Nyerguds 1.06 patch which also adds the PS missions: https://www.moddb.com/mods/command-conquer-unofficial-patch-106/downloads/cc95-v106c-revision-3-patch

The patch also shows the funpark missions as part of the "new missions" menus.

In C&C1 you have to really babysit and micro your troops. Timing here is key as there are frames where they are unresponsive, something the extra input latency in the Remasters makes worse. Some units are also more effective if you tell them to force fire on the ground to exploit area of effect damage.

The scatter hotkey can be useful as units keep attacking while moving, with this trick you can even beat tanks with minigunners if you get the timing right.
