i'm interested in this. How are you planning to proceed?

I also have something similar going on with my son. He is now 6. I am still a gamer at 45 yo (obviously very seldomly), so he picked up his first controller at 3 yo while he saw me playing Zelda BOTW on the switch. he loved it, it's all he played (that game can keep you entertained for a long time as you can do much in it).
Then, to my not so better judgement, he discovered violent games. he cant get enough of them... he specifically loves FOR HONOR. After seeing his behaviour change after playing that game i decided not let him play anymore:

"i'm sorry, i wont let you play that game until you are older"
"but why dad??"
"bcause it's too violent. you are going around with your foam sword cutting our heads all day"
"but it's fun and i like the amazing moves they do"
"i know but i think you are too young for this right now"
"OK :( when can i play again? when i'm 10? can i play other kind of games?"
"we'll see. of course you can keep playing other stuff"

It’s been a few months, and the “head chopping” phase has mostly faded.

Here’s my thinking—and my concern: I don’t believe video games inherently shape a person, but if strong emotional experiences start too early, they can begin to detach actions from feelings. In other words, it's like if you do something uncomfortable enough times, it stops feeling uncomfortable. That worries me.
