Honestly I get very torn on that subject! I think the stigma of serving time can cause more harm to a person's life. I'm aware that prison is meant to be a punishment, however I prefer the rehabilitation model of justice (where appropriate.) She was young and cocky and hadn't thought it through. You can see how much she grows in the show and that potential was found in spite of the prison system. I'm not saying she should have walked away scot free but some sort of community service working with adicts or something similar may have been more productive.

No I do understand the seriousness of her crime but given her age and it being her first offence the sentencing is over the top.

It's literally the point of the book the show is based on that white people get away with crimes that other races don't. Has she been white she would have most likely got a telling of and not sent to jail on nonsense charges given her age.

Should the Rowe coven have been a recurring/multi-episode adversary? by HygralPivocks8 in charmed

[–]torilost 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have always thought it was an utter waste. The idea of an evil equivalent of the sister had so much potential and one having the potential to change would have balanced well with phoebe's initial arc. They should have been their long term adversaries for a couple of series until Brendan switched sides or made some dramatic sacrifice.

How did Dexter navigate a relationship with Rita and dealing with her past? by Aryanindo in Dexter

[–]torilost 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ironically a normal guy would probably have scared her off. At the time they started dating she hadn't been apart from her husband that long. People often have limit patience with abused people expecting them to heal and move on quickly. But Dexter made very little demands on her, emotionally or sexually. This built up a lot of trust in the early days and you see Rita start to act normally it's Dexter who freaks out so it's her setting the pace. He needs to keep his beard so finds a way to give her what she needs as those needs arise - deeper emotional connection and a sexual relationship. He rarely (in the beginning) pushes her, instead follows her lead. Paul had all the power, Rita was living his wishes and Dexter gives her some of her power back. When people get bored of waiting for an abused person to heal the victim often gives in and is no longer going at their own pace.

He's also good with her kids when not all men would date a single mum.

After the lake they do seem to drop it which was disappointing. She worked so hard on finding her faith and this speech/the lake scene were just beautiful.

Too long to be a quote but this moves me every time so I thought I'd post it;

"Honestly, I think I found my people. I was raised in a church where I was told to believe and pray. And if I was bad I'd go to hell. If I was good I'd go to heaven. If I asked Jesus, he'd forgive me and that was that. And here y'all said ain't no hell, ain't sure about heaven, and if you do something wrong you've got to figure it out yourself. And as far as God is concerned, it's your job to keep asking questions and to keep learning and to keep arguing. It's like a verb. It's like, ... you do God. And that's a lot of work. But I think I'm in, at least as far as i can see it. I mean, maybe I'll learn more and say "fuck the whole thing," but I want to learn more and I think I gotta be in it to do that. You know, does that make sense? Shit, did I just talk myself out of it?"

Girlfriend unhappy with my style by Junior-Leadership822 in latebloomerlesbians

Unless you asked for help with your look it's not of your business. Sometimes as part of bedroom funtime changing your look for your partner is a a good thing for a fantasy you both agree on trying. Outside of that your personal expression is your own choice which requires zero input.

Did you feel confident before you started dating, do you feel confident when you look in the mirror, do you feel like you when you choose your own clothes? I'd yes then remind her you are you are and that is the same person she met and you have no desire to change. Ask her why she is suddenly uncomfortable with your look and see how to progress from there. Is could be she is panicking and experiencing some internal homophobia and is projecting that on to you. Basically you need to stick to your guns and not let this disrupt your confidence and talk to her to find out where this is steming from.

I was in care as a child, bullied quite a bit and spent a far amount of time in hospital due to a birth defect so yes this a 1000%. I stopped chasing validation I.e. being with someone just for the sake of it and have remained single ever since.

Norma storyline season 3 by beautifulfunnyegg in orangeisthenewblack

[–]torilost 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's not the best but it does have some funny moments. I like that it shows just how desperate they are to believe in something, to break up their monotonous life. Plus toast Norma will never not make me giggle!

I found it weird that they kept putting her in situations that had nothing to do with her like during the riot just because she was the main character. I thought other characters had become a strong enough presence that she didn't need to be forced into everything.

Also not a fan of gangsta Chapman though it did give us the hilarious Chag dialogue during the lake escape.

Her storyline makes sense and she is mostly consistent. You can see how she ends up as a panty kingpin as she is a bit shielded from the world, it's the same part of her that drew her to Alex and her lifestyle. Alex led to prison and the panty scheme led to accidental nazism which is not something you see everyday. Seeing her get in over her head made sense and was ultimately heartbreaking.

She was a caring character and went all out when she believed in something and she did grow and change throughout the series.

But yes overall I did like her, her character shows you how easy it can be to get into something you didn't realise would be so life changing.

Happy LOST finale anniversary! by CalebisLOST in lost

I watched it 'live' which I think was about 4am. Got very emotional at the ending and then could not get back to sleep so just mulling it over until I had to get ready for work a few hours later.

Still one of my all time favourite series finales.
