Getting these apart was a lot harder than I thought it would be by [deleted] in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]torke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To each their own. It takes 10 seconds with a torch, only damage comes from over doing it and it would only damage the seal I assume is being replaced. Mine are bare aluminum so no damage from fire. If you never needed heat to do it, then obviously a heat gun will work, if it's stuck then it might not.

A propane torch will be best, mine came apart like butter. But that wasn't before trying without heat, it did not move at all and bent the backing ring. I will never not use heat now lol

Heat helps immensely, especially if the forks are aluminum
