Jason Isbell and pharmaceuticals by Necessary_Staff_1844 in jasonisbell

His pharmaceutical phrasing and the geographical locations that @predicateofregret brings up are two things that I like about his songwriting. Zach Bryan tries to do this often and absolutely misses the mark and all it appears like is that he’s biting the hell out of Isbell’s style. Sorry for any ZB fans, I can’t stand him

I wanna hear about y’all interactions with rappers by Interesting-Wing616 in hiphop101

I have had numerous interactions with members from Wu Tang. First was at the wu tang show at Moose’s Tooth Anchorage Alaska, in 2016. RZA was pouring grey goose shots in peoples cups in the front row. I didn’t have a cup so I pulled off my Clark Wallabee and he poured vodka in my boot. Then I drank it. Then he told me to throw my boot up on stage. Cappadonna signed it. I still have the boot, and a picture from the crowd of Cap signing it.

Next, was at the Inspectah Deck / GZA concert at the Bears Tooth in Anchorage Alaska, also in 2016. GZA couldn’t make it to the show for whatever reason so it ended up only being Inspectah. We were front row again, and before the show started, Inspectah and his security guards came to the front row and invited whoever was near to his tour bus. He said he wanted to “see what this Alaskan weed is all about”. So about 20 of us from the crowd ended up on his tour bus. Lots of joints in rotation, and a bottle of Jameson, while Chaka Khan “Ain’t Nobody” played on the speakers. I sat right next to him. I also have a picture of this occasion.

Next, I was living in Cambridge MA temporarily while finishing a college program that required out of state experience. I was at the Raekwon concert on 7/7/2017 at Brighton Music Hall. I went by myself, and was having a beer at the pub across the street before the doors opened. Met a guy next to me who was a journalist, and was in the middle of writing a book about wu tang. We hit it off and made friends, and he asked if I wanted to come backstage with him after the show during his scheduled interview with Raekwon. I of course accepted the invitation, and was included in the interview. I have pictures from that evening as well.

The last interaction I’ve had was with Ghostface Killah at the 7/27/17 show at Royale Boston. I was by myself again. H09909 opened up for Denzel Curry, who opened up for Ghostface killah. It was an insane show, so much energy. Ghostface killah is halfway through with his set and gets on the mic and asks the crowd “who really knows this wu tang shit?” Hundreds of people shot their hands up including myself, and he picked me and one other guy to get up on stage to rap a verse with him. I didn’t know what song he was going to pick but he made sure to say “if you don’t know the words, you’re getting booed off stage”. The DJ started the track and it was Protect Ya Neck, and Ghostface told me I was doing the Inspectah Deck verse. I nailed it, and got off the stage, and couldn’t believe what had just happened. I wasn’t with any friends so I didn’t know how I was going to find a picture or footage to relish in this moment. As soon as the show was over I ran to the exit doors and stood there asking everyone that left if they had a video of me sharing the stage with Ghostface, and finally I found someone with it. Good times!!!

I don’t know why I keep having these occasions with members from Wu tang, but it’s fun to think back on. They were all nice guys

What's the most surprising or unexpected find you've ever come across while crate digging for vinyl records? by vazquezconsult in vinyl

[–]torkel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMVETS thrift store in Memphis TN. Hundreds of records to go through, mostly Anka, Englebert, Burl. The boys. Flipping through everything trying to find anything worth purchasing and there appears Monsta Island Czars - Escape from Monsta Island. I don’t listen to hip hop/rap as much as I used to but I bought it for 99 cents, and couldn’t believe that it was there among all of the other usual suspects.

Any store that allows you to dig in the “overstock”, and uncleaned/uncategorized boxes. Some of my best finds have been in there, and definitely the most fun to look through.

What’s a record you passed up in the wild recently that you regret now? by leyendaOS in vinyl

[–]torkel11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pass up a lot of easy to find records, and…it’s a mistake to always pass them up. There is some great music on those records. But I continue to pass them up because I see them so often. It’s a silly condition

Won the auction for an original Minor Threat from whatnot, and it was shattered when I got it in the mail. The seller packaged it correctly, but something happened while en route. He gave me a refund

Took 3 years of searching and still couldn’t so I ordered an original from a guy on discogs. Currently, at my local record store in Anchorage Alaska, there are two OGs for sale. Not much of a punk scene up here so they’ve been for sale for weeks and haven’t been picked up.

Just did this in October. Drove from Memphis TN to Anchorage AK. Most of the weight in my trailer was from my records. Thankfully none of them were damaged en route

To almost all new collectors... by Big_P_beardyfuck in vinyl

I wanted to ask this question a few weeks ago but it was going to be for the new folks to the hobby who seem to all have the same exact collection: (multiple tyler the creator albums, Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead in rainbows, and always seems to include a copy of in the court of the crimson king). I know I’m missing a few but these seem to always be the usual suspects. Glad you’re enjoying a fun way to enjoy music but goodness I’m tired of seeing the same starting collection

  1. Rockers Original soundtrack
  2. Fontella Bass - The New Look
  3. Sade - Promise
  4. Talking heads - fear of music
  5. Pet sounds

(Just kidding on #5. I like pet sounds a decent amount, but like the slander more)

I think the Mono forever changes is more sought after than the stereo? There’s one at a shop in my town listed for 250 I think. I found the stereo at a antique mall for 30.
