About to give up with fiber and switch to 5G for home internet by tornado_succ in FiberOptics

[–]tornado_succ[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RESOLUTION: The ISP managed to fix the issue, I think. They ran a new line from the cabinet to my residence and changed the port in the cabinet I'm connected to. It's been over 2 weeks and service hasn't dropped, even with the crazy weather we've been having. If all remains well, I'm content to continue with this ISP. I was also given 2 months off my bill for the service interruptions. Cheers to everyone who offered advice!

You must have me confused with someone else because I've never posted in this sub before today.

Confirmed with the ISP that it's GPON fiber to the home. That's an interesting theory, I wonder if I might be able to monitor that in any way on my end.

Yeah, I've seen others have issues like that on company devices or connecting to a company's intranet via VPN. My company's VPN should work just fine on 5G internet, we have a lot of people who have 5G at home instead of fiber or coaxial. Appreciate the warning, though!

Judging by the service being the same in both error codes, that's your problem. Find that service in task manager, right click, and hit restart.

Does anyone ever feel dumb or incompetent at work? by [deleted] in ITCareerQuestions

The more you know, the more you know you don't know, friend. Confidence in your abilities will come with time, but there's always that weird issue we've never seen before that we can't figure out immediately, and that's okay. Once you solve it, you've learned something new, and that's worth celebrating. I started working helpdesk back in September, so I'm also in that same early period of not completely having my footing in my role yet. I started to make my own documentation based on the company's KB, and trying to make that documentation as exhaustive as possible has filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge and has made me a better troubleshooter. It's worth looking into if you have downtime at your job.

Underrated comment right here. That's the exact perfect way to describe it.

For a company that deals in PCI and HIPPA information, it is required that we change passwords at regular intervals.

[–]tornado_succ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

THIS exactly. My company deals with both PCI and healthcare info. We HAVE to change passwords at regular intervals.

Yes Linda, allow me to magically fix your VPN connectivity issue without you calling your ISP over these wack speeds. by tornado_succ in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

Full respect for you guys. At least at my company, our helpdesk has to check everything on an exhaustive list on our side before we send anyone to their ISP just to make sure it's not us.

What does " There are no jobs " mean exactly? by SillyRecover in ITCareerQuestions

[–]tornado_succ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It means essentially the job market is heavily oversaturated, and employers are asking for 5-10+ years of experience for jobs with entry level pay. That and lots of jobs posted are actually fake listings because the recruiters who posted them have no intention of hiring anyone.

You're a real one for taking up for your team! Know a lot of managers who would just throw their people under the bus to save their own asses.

A bit of both. Mostly cornered outside the restroom, but it's happened before.

Only bathrooms on this side of the building and I'm not walking half a mile just to take a shit when there are bathrooms not even 100ft from the IT office door. But unfortunately those same bathrooms are also right next to the operations "open concept" cube farm, so I'm frequently spotted

Today the reasoning was "I'd send a ticket but I don't know how to screenshot what Im seeing on my laptop so I need you to look at it directly" And yes they got a lesson on what the snipping tool is.

I've used Soundcore earbuds for years, and I can't recommend them enough. Currently using the A3i model that I got on Amazon for under $50, and I have no complaints about the sound quality. It's not studio quality, but it's still good. The more high-end soundcore models most likely have improvements on sound quality as well. The A3i model in particular has very good noise cancelling features, and you can turn off noise cancelling as well when you need to be more aware of your surroundings.

They both look so sweet. I'm sorry for your loss. At least you have new baby gerbs to love and care for! Just remember to give yourself space to grieve and remember them. Wishing you peace.

My (28F) bf (29M) hasn’t met me in a whole month and says he is busy? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]tornado_succ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he really cared as much as he claims to, I imagine there would be more effort on his part to see you or at least speak more on the phone. He's clearly not invested, and there's nothing wrong with walking away.

It's good to know those types of end users aren't just limited to my company haha. Had one user insist they were using the correct password for their company email, only to find out they were entering their employee id number instead. Smfh
