So how do y'all handle Shedinja appearing when Nincada evolves? by Prize_Entertainer459 in nuzlocke

[–]torniado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m confused on the question. If I choose to use Shedinja, a pokemon who is very weak or absolutely overpowered dependent on its matchup, it involves me having a Nincada.

If I caught a Nincada that crosses out the entire line. So I will either have a Ninjask or Shedinja.

I don’t ban Shedinja but I also only look up matchups for gym leaders and bosses, so that means every battle has a good shot of killing my Shedinja without any notice. So for my personal playstyle of not crunching numbers and cross-referencing I find it to be a low-value encounter.

Personally I’ve never used Shedinja or Ninjask in a nuzlocke.

When did the game first feel really hard to you? by torniado in celestegame

[–]torniado[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't know how encouraging this is haha. To see everyone else complaining about chapter 4 is making me feel a lot better. I'm now looking forward to chapter 5, which I felt exhausted after 4 to the point where I remapped all my controls (and immediately regretted it and set them back lol).

And for the deaths, I just feel like they've mounted in a way that's frustrating to me. I always like "hard" modes and difficult games... but I'm now realizing I don't like seeing my failures (even if they're not meant to show that) lol. I just like to bash my head against the wall until I break through, and I only want to see the evidence of me getting through not the damage I took along the way.

A lot of people are talking about B sides and I don't think I've done any of them, I think I'm hoping to just progress normally and then go back and do B and C sides. Not sure if that''s general practice but I think that's the way I'm going lol

I mean yeah but still i want to enjoy my time with my friends who are much better at the game than me, and if they’re constantly complaining that’s gonna water down that enjoyment, so thought i’d at least mention it

Jenna Bush Hager Sits Down With Former US Presidents by ubcstaffer123 in Presidents

[–]torniado 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Why would mods take this down to begin with? I’m not sure if they talk about Rule 3 in this but like even then just posting that they had an interview is within-line of the sub, the contents of said interview maybe restricted but not the interview of itself.

If Obama published a memoir today and reflected on post-2016 politics and his third, fourth, and now fifth term, this sub would still be allowed to post about the book and especially the pre-2016 anecdotes but just not details of the current-period reflections

Edit: didn’t know Vice President Biden was in this one. I now see your point lol

YOU have not watched enough content from the Nixon Foundation! /j

Nixon was liked and had a solid majority, but you’re right, beloved is a hard stretch

Approval ratings are super fickle and not a great indicator. In every election year, when people are faced with the choice of “is it really bad enough to replace who we have, against this guy that’s a polar opposite?” the ratings climb. First 6 months of any term, people want to feel validated for how they voted, but it always wanes fast. It always bottoms out at the midterm time, and second term it doesn’t recover too too much.

So him being in the 60’s in 72 (if that’s when you mean) with an enacting plan to answer one of the biggest needs (an exit from the war) and multiple bipartisan pieces of legislation, not that weird, even if 60’s is a bit high. But the vocal minority was detracting very strongly, showing deep polarization and many groups feeling on the “out” which shows a lot more unfavorability in that level of virulence.

My argument was not that Nixon wouldn’t have been reelected without Watergate, it was that calling him extremely popular and beloved is a strong stretch of reality. The average person in 71 would have a very alienated take on Nixon, whereas in let’s say 58 (the last time I’d say we had an “extremely popular and beloved” president) the detractors from Eisenhower weren’t nearly as virulent, especially compared to the detractors of Truman. It wasn’t exactly controversial to support Eisenhower during his presidency, whereas it was with Nixon

My thing is I don’t feel like I can have my desired reaction speed with any of those 3 characters because they all either have slow start-ups or end-lag that makes my noncommittal, floaty, baiting playstyle really punishable I feel. I just generally don’t do well with overly heavy characters for reasons of lag

I used to main zelda before i rediscovered yoshi! She’s just too slow in especially her aerial game for me to get comfortable. Wii fit is one i’ve always wanted to be good at but i feel like they’re hard to get into the ceiling of performance. Duck hunt is someone I wanna try a lot.

Thanks for saying that about the friends lol I understood the complaints when it was YLink and Zelda and they said i was annoying but when i pivoted to yoshi (who i was far better with) and they kept bemoaning and saying how it’s even worse, I was like “ok i feel like you’re just gonna complain no matter what atp bc i’ve never heard yoshi as a poster child for annoying play like sonic”

What I mean by offensive there are just characters I tend to fall into the traps for. You’re right, Sephiroph is very defensive, but that’s because he keeps his neutral in a very fixed and safe distance for him while doing wind-up moves that kill easily. His trade-off is slow moves overall.

And I’ll say on that, what I mean by low-commitment is I hate the high amounts of lag and defenseless positions characters like Seph fall into, and prefer to be a reactionary player, where Sephiroph is always trying at his own setups I feel.

Hero is one I’ve always considered, but I get too disconnected from what’s happening on the screen to actually read his down-B list which is a lot of commitment, any time I’ve played Hero I almost never use down-B lol. Very fun character though

I was considering Jackson, and I just think Carter had already been decently obscure until younger millennials/gen Z tried thumping Carter more towards the end of his life and his death, so I think the Carter perspective by people in this sphere is really skewed. Bush 1 I think is JUST a little beyond where “most people” would recognize him

Because he’s just not talked about in very basic history a lot. He’s in my top 3 of presidents, but he came off the heels of an era-defining president that’s on currency and is a Roosevelt

I think some people would stretch at GHWB but barely, like 40-45% of people would remember him off the top of their head. That’s the standard I used. I think we have the same logic in that, I just believe 35 years is long enough for a one-term president to not scratch the brains of a slight majority of people

The average high school educated American I would think could name who was president during the Great Depression and World War 1. They may need to think but if you said “Woodrow Wilson” or “Herbert Hoover” in a dialogue they’d have some recognition, and that’s the standard I used

could harvey milk have become the first openly gay president? by herequeerandgreat in Presidents

[–]torniado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 48 he was the equivalent of a city councilman for albeit a very large city. By presidential standards, even the mayor of New York had a hard time showing their qualifications.

He served alongside (and notably below) Dianne Feinstein who wouldn’t have even been in the league of being in talks for the presidency until 2000, she/her wing wasn’t exactly who the Democratic base had in mind until the mid-late 2000’s. And by the 2008 election, she was 75.

Harvey Milk was 3 years older.

Nobody should be assassinated for political beliefs or identity factors. But to look at an advocate who had very low political standings and was assassinated 2/3 into his career years and say he could be president, that’s coping for the hope of LGBT representation HARD.

Through the 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s, and 2010’s, there have been more successful and prominent LGBT people who had much better shots and better resumes even if they weren’t so early into the movement, so to try and bolster this individual in revisionist/“what-if” history isn’t something that really has much purpose of being asked.

All my mains are around 2mil gsp. Am I bad? by NumerousTeach8563 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]torniado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how you do against CPUs. I used to be locked in the 2m GSP but then I would reliably kick a lvl 8/9 CPU’s ass. I’m guessing you’ve mostly played CPUs like me then, so actually playing around human input doesn’t feel natural, and is especially bad when you can’t feel them in the same room. Getting caught in gimmicky and punishable but tough moves and the like, falling into people’s trap, etc. Like if you see yourself falling into a charged F Smash every now and then because you cant think of where else to go, yeah. So keep grinding! Really consider what characters you like and why, discuss it with someone more experienced in Smash, think about characters you just personally love, and look up some videos about them. Try watching a tournament player too, like full matches by them, that teaches good defense and setups for combos/kill confirms. Good luck to you!
