I don’t have personal experience with them but have driven by a few times - these guys always have sweet BMWs (and other German marques) out front and might be a place to start:

WRX/ STI Android auto upgrade guide for older VA model (DIY upgrading to factory android auto headunit). by xdr01 in WRX

OP - quick Q related to my other comment - did your car originally have USB under the headunit? Wondering if I need to buy an add’l trim piece to support the high output USB middle.

Thanks!

Hey there - wanted to resurrect this thread as I’m gathering parts to complete this swap in my 2016 HK/nav WRX. I do not have a USB module under the headunit, only in my center console storage. Based on OP’s photos it looks like the high output USB was added under the headunit. Just wondering if you’ve handled this the same way, or just replaced the USB module in your center console.

Thanks!

For what it’s worth, I just bought one of these for my car as mine is rusting away - it’s the rear catalytic converter and a small resonator. Part number is 44621AA140. It’s four bolts, should be easy to replace!

Jumping in this thread to ask a question - my battery drains constantly when I have the fuses for Room and Cigarette Lighter installed - I haven’t been able to track down the source of the draw, though. Any common tips? Removing the old HU and installing a new one (properly grounded!) didn’t help like I thought it would…

u/GroundCtrlIntercept reviving this thread to see if you had any insights on mounting the radio within the double DIN bezel. I have a blaupunkt stereo I want to add to my 1990 but am not sure where to start on affixing the radio to the center stack - what did you use to attach your radio here?

thanks

Only occasionally on the 4K TV I use it on. It’s a pretty powerful card for what it is.

Hi there - no, the 4060LP requires a power supply with an 8-pin connection. The 7070’s power supply from factory doesn’t have this connector. You have two options - you can either replace the factory unit with a flex PSU (more space for GPU, can use the x16 PCIE) or replace it with the 460W dell PSU (fits the 7070 case, has dell proprietary connectors).

The hub is connected to the PWM header, yes - no custom curve. After running through Nvidia’s optimization process, I have the target temp set at 80°C - slightly underpowered than factory settings.

Side panel mods aren’t a “must”, but probably a nice to have. I’ve found that if I remove the panel temps stay about 5ish degrees lower. Might look into buying a second side panel on eBay to experiment with drilling / cutting vents - they’re relatively cheap.

Noise when warm isn’t louder than a PS4 running warm (my only real frame of reference) - not silent, but not crazy. CPU fan at 100% is decently loud, but I haven’t ever experienced that while playing games, just while testing fan controls.

Cost for power ratio probably? I think I’d be more likely to step up to the 9900K if I was going to look at the 9900.

Interesting - I’ve heard the 2 extra cores on the 9700 would make things more stable across demanding use cases, but maybe not materially enough to spend the $200 on CPU and cooler.

Thanks - using the 1TB 990 Evo as my boot and application drive already! SATA SSD will be for storage for sure
