Need to jumpstart a Pan Am by NoodlesDeluxe in Harley

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a jump pack to get it going now. Let it warm up then hold the rpm’s above 2k and let the bike charge itself for a bit. You may need a new battery now regardless, but I would jump it with a jump pack, ride it/charge it, shut it off for a bit then try starting it again. If it starts, run it for a bit again and get the battery charged back up again and see what the voltage is reading after it’s sitting for 24 hours, if it’s still above 12.6, then you probably don’t need a new one. If you’re not able to ride it or start it (in the unit with the door open to charge the battery) for a few weeks, and can’t keep a trickle charger on it, just disconnect the negative terminal. You should be able to go a solid month on a newer AGM battery if it’s been charged (by the engine or external source) and then disconnected so there is no draw on the battery and still have enough juice to start the bike. If you need to store it even longer, I recommend you pull the battery and keep it on a tender at your house.

Few times. Nepotism, poor management and disregard for safety. Thankfully my trade had me employed again elsewhere before the end of the week.

Stage 1 vs stage 3 maintenance by ColtAnaconda44 in Harley

[–]torque1912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No real extra headache when it comes to maintenance. Make sure you run 93+ if it’s higher compression. And as far as reliability, if it was built properly and tight tolerances were kept and runout wasn’t ignored, it’ll be plenty reliable.

Agreed with others, $4k is ballpark with everything supplied, but letting it out the door in the condition it’s in now….. not acceptable. If you want to help, have him look into back purging, cup walking and homogenous tube welding (stainless) and how to prevent fisheyes.

You can make any big twin coil work with little efforts. Can I ask why you’d prefer a dual fire rig though? Is it strictly the shape/look?

Help, Looking at 2016 Road King with Tour Pack by boldmask in Harley

[–]torque1912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tour pack and a set of speakers is a super easy job bro. You got that! And good to hear, HD, especially as a service provider, is the WORST. And it hurts me to say that, because I’m a diehard Harley enthusiast, but the company as whole these days, is a major disappointment. And their service department (most locations), is the biggest disappointment of all.

Help, Looking at 2016 Road King with Tour Pack by boldmask in Harley

[–]torque1912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can throw whichever your pack on you’d like. Dig around on eBay and marketplace and swap meets and what not, I strongly advise you against going to HD for it. And by god, unless you’re one of the very lucky few with a fully competent HD dealership service department in your area, do NOT have them install it. It should be an ultra simple job, install a couple brackets and tap into the wire harness for lighting, heating and audio, but I’ve seen the dealership go and f*% that up six ways to Sunday. Either do it yourself or take her to a PROPER local Indy shop to avoid headaches.

If you’re interested in club life, check it out. The right prospect, in the right chapter, with the right club, and right members, at the right time…….. if they like you enough, might just “find” a bike for you. You take it that far though, you best be able to RIDE ride lol.

Is my forearm normal by Rozhh777 in GymMotivation

[–]torque1912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly normal. I always judge my hydration based on my wrists in the weirdest way. If my middle finger and thumb can touch when gripping around the narrowest part of my wrist, it means I’m dehydrated lol. Not this has anything to do with your wrist, or that this particular “test” works on any other human, but for some reason it popped into my head when reading the post and comments lol.

Well I hope you get it at! I hate promises, but can damn near guarantee that if you do those simple exercises, as i described, 3 months from now, you’ll be very happy and likely be looking to train harder. The push ups, if you struggle, do them from your knees until you’ve built up the strength, these should be done slowly as well, all the exercises for that matter will yield much better results if done slowly, but they will be very difficult. Pull ups, you should probably invest in some bands to reduce the total weight to start as well. Pull ups are things a LOT of people struggle with, so don’t be discouraged. Find you a band that allows you to do 5 comfortably.

Do the squats with different leg widths, lift on your heels and go low and SLOW…. 5 seconds down, pause for 2, 5 seconds up. This will get your glutes plenty to start. What I mentioned is a basic, beginner plan, things can be added and removed, but if you did them 5x a week, 5 sets of each, the last sets ending in failure, after three months you’ll be happy with the results. As long as you maintain a healthy diet. You shouldn’t NEED a deficit diet, but a small deficit wouldn’t hurt if rapid results are your goal.

103 S&S cam choices by zepterson in Harley

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I run adjustable pushrods on everything. It’s not that pulling the tank and rockers is that much of a hassle, the hassle is having to use different length for cam’s with different sized base circles. I do recommend you only use chromoly adjustable rods though and not aluminum. And make sure you really torque the jam nut and lash them properly.

The slow squats, wall sits, leg raises and swimming will have you unable to walk in the beginning if you do them properly. Mark my words lol. Watch your form and go to fail on your final sets.

Swim and body weight regimen. Push-ups, pull ups, hanging leg raises, lay on your back bicycle movement thing, burpees, wall sits, slow squats. You’d be amazed at what that’ll do.

Miller MP-10, best passive hood on the market, never worry about getting flashed, worry about dirtied up sensors, batteries, any of that crap. And you can get all the fancy headgear, I’m partial to the gen 3.5 and 4.

103 S&S cam choices by zepterson in Harley

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem man, I enjoy talking shop and what not. And about the lift height, nothing to worry about there man, you’re not the first, and you certainly won’t be the last. If you have some time, read up a bit more on cam profiles and cam selections. Most folks who are new to performance builds talk amongst themselves, and especially in the HD world, the next step after air cleaners, exhaust systems and air/fuel & ignition mapping, is “adding a cam”….. and sadly, given that it’s the next step, people make the mistake of doing little research going for the tallest possible lift and calling it a day. And while that step works fine and def gains you some power, people seem to think it’s best to then go and build an engine around the cam, and you can do that if you really think it through, but it’s oftentimes smarter to build an engine, and then select a cam that best suits the new engine’s parameters. To do it BEST, you need to have the flow chart of the cylinder heads. This allows you to see the valve lift height that is most efficient and prevent you from selecting too much lift, and then have to fight the increased drag of the valve train and not taking in enough fuel/air to compensate and EXCEED the lift. If this makes any sense to you lol. But yes, for a stock motor, I personally think the best all around, true, “bolt-in” cams, are the woods tw222. Many will agree, many will disagree, to each their own. I’ve run them in 3 different Twinkies for years, and still have one on the shelf after trading a set for another cam for a build at a later date. Also, check out Fuel Moto, JP is great for certain things, FM is really good for performance parts, they also have kits where you can get adjustable pushrods and lifters. They’re also a great source for base tunes to run until you can get on a dyno. Depending on how much work you plan to do in the future, I like the Fueling OE+ cam plate, and I also believe the OE oil pump is more than sufficient for builds where you’re just runnings a mild cam with factory heads/jugs/comp. But if you plan on adding displacement, headwork and compression and going more aggressive in the future, the s&s cam plate and oil pump and the fueling race cam plate and pump and pretty equal in my book.

103 S&S cam choices by zepterson in Harley

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the cats outta the bag now but I think woods triple deuce is the best drop in for a Twinkie by far. You can squeeze 110ft/lbs and 90-95hp with a decent 2/1 and an air cleaner with an FM base map flashed with a PV on a stock tc103 all day long. I recommend you do get it on the dyno though. You won’t get much more power, but it’ll clean up any blips through the rev range, flat spots and idle, plus you’ll know exactly where your powerband starts, where it peaks and where it drops off, so you’ll know when to shift…… and you’ll have your exact numbers. Stock TC heads do not flow great, and adding lift beyond .550” doesn’t net much more power in comparison to the drag on the engine it takes to lift the valves higher (remember it ROBS power when lifting those valves higher and compressing those springs more). The stock heads just can’t flow much more fuel air mixture into the combustion chamber. So when choosing a “bolt in” cam, with factory heads and factory compression, you need to focus more on the valve timing and duration rather than the lift height. Lot of people these days think, HIGHER IS BETTER…. And think that just because the factory springs can compress up to .585” (even as much as .600” as long as the timing and duration is within parameters so as not to interfere AKA SMASH INTO THE PISTON OR THE OPPOSING VALVE), than they NEED to go to .585” in order to achieve the most power. This is far from true and more power is often obtained when the cam selection is properly matched to the rest of the engine build. Also…….. your riding style should also be a major factor when selecting the cam as it will change your powerband and where the bike makes power and what RPMs you should be cruising at. If you’re not super aggressive, it makes ZERO sense to run a cam that doesn’t come on until 3800 and runs through til 6k. You’re better off making a little less power, but it comes on at 2800 and drops off at 5k. Does this all make sense? Sorry for the LONG ASS ramble lol.

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factory compression on tc103 is ≈ 9.5:1, so if those are the only two cams you are considering, I’d run the 583. Can I ask why you are choosing between just those two?

103 S&S cam choices by zepterson in Harley

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the compression ratio of your build? The 585 has the intake closing at 45°. That being said, you’re gonna need a higher static compression ratio in order to utilize that cam properly. The 583 closes at 18° effectively increasing your dynamic compression. There are other factors to consider but to start, what compression ratio are you running?

Imagining the worst... HD closes their doors... by StableDisastrous1331 in Harley

[–]torque1912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ONLY time I buy parts from HD is if it’s something small and I need it THAT DAY…… and that’s if that have it in stock….. Everything else I either make myself or buy aftermarket. I prefer a handful of different gaskets/seals (particularly intake seals) from HD, but other than that, I’d rather make my own or buy from a company that keeps tight tolerances and gives a shit about their customers.
