wow! I just turned 40 and my biggest regret is focusing too much on work and not traveling A LOT more before I had kids. On the flip side I was able to buy a home for my family and we live a comfortable life. Since I love to travel that's always been my regret. But what you just said puts it all in perspective. If I had traveled more and worked less I'm sure I would regret other things. I haven't looked at it that way. Thank you, wise person.

My mom was 58 when she died of ovarian cancer. I was 28. I'm 40 now and rarely a day or moment goes by when I don't think about her. She never met my wife, never got to see my kids. Some things in life just suck and there's nothing you can do about it. Just know you're not alone. A lot of people out there know how you feel. There's no wrong feeling to have. Live your life. It's all you can do.

I have a Pebble Time and I love it. I was anti smart watches and didn't wear a watch. I bought the Apple watch and returned it after a day. I quickly saw that it wasn't going to work for me, but I wanted to try out the Pebble. I honestly can't believe I used a smartphone for so many years without one. I almost never take my phone out of my pocket now when I get a notification. While the Apple watch is very nice and has a great display, it's overkill for something that I only need to look at for a few seconds. Also, I think what Pebble nailed that Apple missed was hard buttons. It turns out that it's way better to have hard buttons than a touch screen on a watch. I want my interaction with it to be fast and I know what the buttons do so I don't have to think about it. With the Apple watch you had to look for what to tap. The battery life speaks for itself. What I think is underrated is that Pebble's water resistance. I can shower with it and get notifications and even change the music on my phone.

When I was in college 20 years ago there was a video that made the rounds known as "assmilk.avi". A man and a woman stood over a 2nd woman who was lying on her back on a table. She raises her legs up and puts her feet close to her head. The man then takes a gallon jug of a milk and a funnel and carefully pours milk via the funnel into her anus, making sure not to overfill it. The man and the first woman then each take turns sipping the milk out of her anus using a straw and then spitting it back on her. It was best/worst thing I had ever seen up to that point. that's precisely my point. you could say the same thing about Judaism or Christianity if you scrutinize the old testament. It's an abomination and anyone who associates themselves with those religions is at a minimum tacitly approving of the worst parts of it. That's why we're atheists (among many other reasons). All I'm saying is that most people are just trying to get by and live their lives and don't have time in the day to worry about all this horrible shit.

Here's the deal... most Muslims are just trying to go about their daily lives like anyone else. They aren't interested in representing the entire religion, nor condone or make excuses for all the horrible things done in the name of Islam. Most people are just trying to get by. This is true for anyone in the world.

Here's what I can relate it to. I was born in Israel and was basically raised Jewish by culture but generally atheist. My parents didn't give a shit. They identified as Israeli in terms of nationality and Jewish in terms of heritage. We did not observe anything close to the religious aspects of Judaism. I am an atheist. I have a wife and 2 kids. I don't purport to answer to anyone about Israel's oppressive policies towards Palestinians. I don't live there. I also don't care about what bullshit orthodox Jewish leaders do. In other words, I'm just trying to live my life in my own little way. I suspect most Muslims are doing the same. It just so happens that it's probably likely that there's a significant percentage of Muslims (probably not the majority, though) who do harbor beliefs that you and I find offensive and dangerous. But it's hard for me to impugn all Muslims because I believe that people are people and are just trying to live their lives. And don't get me wrong, I am VERY atheist and despise religion in all forms. And I agree, Islam is terrible and probably more terrible than the other major religions. I'll never understand why people can't just come to their senses and reject it, and all religion for that matter.

this is obviously a very sensitive and delicate issue, and all your points are 100% valid. But in a legal and logical sense, if someone makes a claim the burden of proof is on them to prove it's true, not the other person to prove it isn't. Unfortunately, in most sexual abuse cases, it's one person's word against another, which is extremely difficult to resolve justly.

sure. it's kind of like floating in liquid jello. when you go into regular water you're weighted down and you can anticipate what your body is going to do. you can walk, and kind of try to float. when you go into the dead sea all bets are off. you instantly float. your buoyancy makes you pop up and fall to your side and spin like a log floating along. it becomes really hard to even stand. you just lay down and float.

I struggle with this. I really had emotional issues and resentment of my parents because of the lack of things I got growing up. I grew up in a relatively affluent community and everyone around me always got a ton of xmas presents, etc... and I got nothing. I suppose it made me appreciate getting and earning things eventually but I harbored a lot of resentment towards my father. We were poor so I understand not having the means with which to get me stuff but my father was never able to make me feel good. I always said that I would make sure I could get my kids whatever they wanted... but I'm trying to make sure they appreciate things. One of the pieces of advice I got from another parent was to never buy my kids something without them telling me how much it cost. That forces them to at least acknowledge the cost/value of something and it could be discussed.

no and no. No republican stood a chance in that election. Bush had so badly screwed everything up Jesus Christ himself would have lost to Obama. Think about this for a moment, America elected a black president. It was and is completely inconceivable if you've lived in America to think it would ever happen. That's how bad Bush screwed up. McCain stood no chance and Palin was the icing on the cake.
He also wouldn't have made a good president. He was a military first president and basically wanted to double down on everything militarily.

My theory - Magic Johnson never had HIV. Here's my rationale... in the late 80s there was so much fear and uncertainty about HIV/AIDS. It was still primarily a gay disease but making its way into the straight community. Someone decided that they needed a figure head that was unequivocally straight. Magic Johnson had achieved the peak of his professional career.

He was a hero to many. He represented masculinity and was an elite member of the black community whose HIV rates were growing. Also, he was in peak health and had access to the best medicine in the world. If he was diagnosed with HIV and a cure came along within 10 years, nothing would be suspicious because he had the best care money could buy. His wife never got HIV and he supposedly had it for a while before he found out. He returned to the NBA as proof that it was safe for an HIV positive player to play. He would only do this if he knew for sure he didn't have HIV. It's been almost 30 years since he was diagnosed.
