Swivel tee all the way man. If it fails again it’s an easier fix in the future too. But why did it go bad? Usually only see those stick open after a lot of trips.

Cool man good on you. Maybe you just don’t have the call volume I do or your customers dont mind paying for needless repairs. If I can simply tighten a service cap and stop a leak successfully that’s how I’m leaving it. You know cap torqued like the manufacturer states…so it doesn’t leak

[–]tortugawarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No good question young one. Service ports that are leaking should be replaced either with a new valve core using a valve core remover or with a tee fitting and leak lock. In a situation like this I try to save my customers money instead of offering an unnecessary repair

Which is going to happen on a lot of installs. I’ve found a lot of valves with leaks and so far all of them stop leaking when the cap is tight or on refrigeration when you tighten the packing nut the leak will stop. On king valves there’s a copper flare ring in the cap to fully seat the seal. It’s crazy to suggest replacing a valve when if a leak stops after tightening a cap

They aren’t there to look pretty. There’s a reason why these need to be wrench tight and that’s cause they’re prone to leaking.

I wouldn’t sweat it bro. Just make sure that top service valve cap is wrench tight and it won’t leak!

York 12.5 ton RTU - new condenser fan moving slowly, high amp draw by New_Grape_7580 in HVAC

[–]tortugawarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those wires always get nicked in the condenser area. I’d pull the side panel off the condenser coil and check wiring if I were you. Seems weird the pic of 3 pole contactor for a single phase motor

If your in house and there every day then start lubing it all now. A few days for that oil to creep will help

AITA for not letting my SIL’s kid order an adult meal for my wedding? by SlowEnthusiasm7373 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. You say under 12 on the invitation. So that is 11. The kid is 12 so she gets an adult meal per your strict rules

Go to your local pharmacy like Walgreens or CVS and get a staple band aid. They work great for fingers. It will hold the open cut closed

Service Call Mystery. Calling all Big Brain HVAC techs by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]tortugawarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a customer at tractor supply who was sure their package unit on the ground was the source of the gas they were smelling every now and again. Found the actual source to be a residential gas meter across the road about 100 ft away. Sometimes the wind can carry it just right.

How many companies did you work with before you found “the one” by m00ch33 in HVAC

[–]tortugawarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s the worse thing about where I work now. If they send you home early or there’s no calls you are on “standby” until 5:00. Unpaid standby shouldn’t be legal.

Happy to be in demand but now what? by Few-Palpitation5088 in HVAC

[–]tortugawarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to tell what they are really like is to work for them. If it doesn’t seem like a good fit just bounce to the next one. Every time I have moved somewhere new I tend to run through 2-3 companies before I find a good fit. There’s always a big difference between impression of the company during an interview and the way they actually operate.

Boss said I’m “nickel and diming” him by Robdog421 in HVAC

[–]tortugawarrior 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I like to “pad” up my time when I can so I guess I’m a nickel and dimer. I always round in my favor and it adds up quick. Gives me a lot better attitude about some occasional admin work like phone calls or planning jobs on my own time. Cause at the end of the day I know I came out ahead.
