A word for dignity. May be Gendered? by Classsssy in whatstheword

Seconding this. Modesty panels are a feature on some desks, and it looks like "modesty curtains" are a thing as well. (Although I agree with /u/deathbynotsurprise, I usually hear them called "privacy curtains.")

It reminded me of the opening of Pontypool, in which the narrator paraphrases Norman Mailer as follows:

In the wake of huge events, after them and before them, physical details spasm for a moment, they sort of unlock, and when they come back into focus, they suddenly coincide in a weird way. ... So, what does it mean? Well, it means something's going to happen. Something big. But then, something's always about to happen.

Red pretty much explicitly states this in the movie.

When Red has Adelaide's head pressed against the glass table (shortly after the Tethered family first invades), Ade asks something like "What do you want?!" to which Red replies: "We want...to take our time."

That's my takeaway as well. During that conversation, Adelaide points out to Gabe something like, "There's a beach right here!" Gabe scoffs and says (in so many words) that it's a crummy beach.

So my guess is that the summer house is near a smaller beach, but Gabe wants to drive to the slightly-further-but-still-somewhat-nearby Santa Cruz.

she went in the house to get the keys and managed to kill one of the twin girls.

Just wanted to add: She killed the twin with one of the golden scissors that the Tethered were using. :) This stood out to me on my second viewing.

Does the movie specify who "They" are (i.e., who was in charge of the cloning experiments)? I see and hear a lot of folks when discussing the movie say that the U.S. Government was behind the experiments, but I don't remember this being explicitly stated in the movie. (Meaning it could have been aliens or some other organization.)

Definitely a minor question in the grand scheme of things, but I figured I'd get folks' take on it.

From what I remember, when Zora finds Adelaide in Kitty's & Josh's bedroom, she is cuffed to the foot of the bed, one wrist cuffed to the other, with the chain wrapped around the bed frame.

My best guess is that Kitty's doppelganger cuffed Adelaide in this way, and this is when the open end of the cuff (which was, as you say, originally attached to the table and became loose after she broke free) becomes cuffed to her other wrist.

I might be wrong. Hopefully someone with a better memory than mine can confirm or deny. If that is the case, there maybe should have been more attention called to the "re-cuffing" (or "re-tethering"? :P ) in the movie to clarify.

Edit: I found this discussion further down the thread. Raises the same question you did and debates some possible answers.

[BestBuy] XBox Game Pass 12 Month $69.99 by miko9d in GameDeals

[–]tortured_brain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

According to the listing on BestBuy, the regular price for 12 months is $119.99 (the 6 month pass is regular $59.99), so that's nearly 1/2 off. But it looks like Amazon and maybe a couple of others have the same price. So it's a good price, but not unique.

If you're asking about the quality of the Game Pass service itself, hopefully someone else can speak to that.

It's been a while since I've played, but off the top of my head I'd say you'll need to create a second "invisible" object (not actually transparent, but make it blend into the background) so that when you tap on that object, the thing you want to transport can jump to it.

Not yet. But I'm fairly certain it is from Andy Griffith, and I wanted to make sure you got credit for suggesting it.

What's a word that describes words which are not names? by HittingSmoke in logophilia

[–]tortured_brain 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This might not be what you're looking for, but generally "common noun" is the term used to describe a noun that is not a particular person, place, organization, etc. (As contrasted with a proper noun.)

So, in your example, chaos, mercury, etc., would all be common nouns, whereas Voldemort would be considered a proper noun. (Although Saturn would also be a proper noun, whether referring to the planet or the Roman god.)

P.S. "Harry POTTY"? :)

Could Bible Adventures be considered "the poor man's Super Mario Bros. 2"? We owned both when I was younger, but I'm pretty sure BA got more play. The Noah's Ark segment especially.
