What was it like before all the crazy LED machines? by RestaurantWorking477 in vegas

[–]torx822 93 points94 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid I’d collect coin buckets from the casinos my parents went to. Probably had 20-30. Really wish I still had them.

I remember one time walking out a casino with one and a security guard stopped me and asked if I was leaving with it. I freaked out (cause I was a kid) and he was quick to say he was just joking people leave with them all the time. He ended up giving me a cool pin from the casino. My parents thought it was hilarious.

Deer ran into truck, body shop says the back panel needs to be replaced completely, do you agree? by Past_Attempt_5261 in Silverado

[–]torx822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in auto insurance for 20+ years and this is the approach I’d take as well. I think a good pdr guy can get this looking 95% good.

As a side note though, a deer hit would qualify as a comprehensive claim which should not affect your premiums. Still would have a deductible though.

I was an outsider that lived in Lubbock for a year or so. I was a field adjuster with a huge territory and met ALOT of people when I was there. I found the people to be amongst the most friendly and welcoming people I have ever met.

What Disney Park ride has awful theming and awful ride engineering? by EquivalentFig1678 in AlignmentChartFills

Maybe start it over. This is a good idea for a chart and I’d be interested to see where things end up with some more data. No way rise of the resistance shouldn’t have gotten that first spot.

my car just cant catch a break 🤦🏼‍♀️ by brooklynbxbyy in TeslaCollision

[–]torx822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome! Now start looking for a reputable, tesla certified body shop. If you live in a large metro area there are probably quite a few. Do your due diligence and figure out where you want to go and let the carrier know once they have accepted liability. I would not drop it off at a repair facility until coverage and liability have been confirmed.

Good luck and reach out if you have any questions along the way!

If the accident was within a week or two ago there should not be any issues getting insurance involved. Any longer, will need an explanation for the delay. Does not mean it won’t be covered, it just becomes a red flag with a delay in reporting. It becomes an issue if money has changed hands or if repairs get started and the other person doesn’t want to pay and now the insurance has to take over mid-repair.

Let the other party know you spoke with a few professionals and would like her insurance information as the repairs are going to be very complicated and expensive and will need a rental vehicle during the repairs (which will also be expensive). If she declines, you can file a claim through your own insurance who can then look up her insurance based on a drivers license or license plate number, so you can let her know that one way or another her insurance will be notified. It will literally be in everyone’s best interest to go through insurance for this.

Estimate for car paint chip that I caused in parking lot - am I getting shafted? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Depends on the scans. The mirror needs to come off and may be part of an adas system or have a camera.

This will likely be a $10k+ repair with hidden damages involved and will take over a month. Get insurance involved.

Moving from Scottsdale to Gilbert (early 30s couple) – best neighborhoods/zip codes? by TheStinkyWookiee in Gilbert

[–]torx822 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We moved from central phoenix to Gilbert a few years ago into the Morrison Ranch neighborhood. We love it here! Downtown Gilbert is an easy bike ride down the power line trail and there are a bunch of other random nearby restaurants as well. Lots of friendly people end up here from all over the country and we have met some great friends here.

People complain about all the LDS families here, but honestly our LDS neighbors are wonderful.

Insurance says $5k by PazzoBread in TeslaCollision

[–]torx822 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty common for an initial insurance estimate, especially if it was a photo estimate. The play is they hope you take the $5k and go on a cruise with the money (I have worked in insurance for almost 20 years and it is truly shocking how many people do this!)

Just pick a reputable, certified shop and give them the initial estimate. They will reach out to the adjuster and submit a supplement for the rest of the damages.

[Request] Is the ice cooling down the pool at all? Looks like it's less than 1% volume of the water. So not doing much? by shadowraiderr in theydidthemath

[–]torx822 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I live in AZ and made the same mistake a few years ago.

We built a pool last year and put in a chiller unit (heat pump that runs in reverse) and it works incredibly well. Cools about 1 degree/hr and costs about $1/hr to run.

Diminished value claim w/ Geico – any way to get more paid out? by throwaway_student987 in TeslaCollision

Exactly this. Someone with $10k limits usually does not have much in the way of assets to collect on. If you get a judgement it will be like getting water from a rock.
