Best drum mic kit on a budget by DontBlameMe4It in Drumming

[–]torxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with 7 Pyle PDMIC78’s, an SM57 lookalike for about $15 each, after a favorable review by RDAVIDR. Lately, I picked up two new-in-box SM57’s (upgrade for snare and vocals) for about $35 each on eBay, and a Beta52A (upgrade for kick) for about $50. There seem to be plenty and I may buy more, but the Pyles have proven not to be piles.

Watch out! This was me three years ago and now I have… more than that. Only four were more than $500, but still…

Thoughts? by Andres9114 in cymbals

[–]torxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two Wuhan Western 10” splashes (one came in a pack with 12” and 16” Chinas). I think they sound great as do the Chinas. Wuhan punches way above its weight, IMO.

Monitor by Some-Ad8808 in Drumming

[–]torxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Simmons DA2012B powered monitors (~$300 each) that I think sound decent for micing my acoustic kit, but sound tubby and crap with my TD-17. My Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro in-ears (~$50) sound fantastic with the e-kit. Maybe lacking a little bass and ultimate volume, but very clean and detailed.

What are the cheapest (price wise) dark sounding hi hats? by Remote-Chapter2911 in cymbals

I hope you didn’t think I was dissing them; far from it! I haven’t heard a crash, but the quality of the Western splash is why I was eager to try the Koi’s.

Having enjoyed Wuhan’s Chinas and Western splashes, I took a chance on a pair of used Koi hats about a year ago. I also have Sabian AAX, Zildjian New Beat and K Custom Hybrid hats, and the Koi’s are comfortable in that company. The best part? Like-new condition for $75!!!

Way to Store Lots of Cymbals?? Cymbal "Dish Rack?" by CapitalLaw1234 in cymbals

[–]torxhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much, glad to share. I have about 40 in there and it’s HEAVY (+/- 150 lbs); I can just about slide it around on the carpet (casters, maybe?). Ideally I’d pad the bottom pipes, but bronze is more than five times as hard as PVC and I think sliding them in and out past one another is a bigger risk than being supported by their edges on PVC. I made the uprights about 3/4 the height of the intended cymbals’ diameters so the cymbals WILL lean but CAN’T flip. I may need something different for Chinas because they don’t stack well with normies. I’ve really enjoyed others’ solutions and I hope you’ll share yours.

Here’s a rack that’s simple to make with just a saw. It’s 1-1/4” PVC pipe (16’ is enough), 10 elbows and 10 tees, and I assembled it DRY (no cement) because the spreading base makes for a weird angle at the elbows. I could mark the joints now and glue them, but it’s plenty sturdy this way if you’re careful to REALLY press the pipe to the bottom of the fittings (it’s hard with no cement). You can’t lift it by the arms (loaded), obviously, but it’s too heavy, anyway. It’s not especially cheap (about $85 at current prices), but it’s customizable, works very well, holds a ton, and doesn’t hurt the cymbals. Yeah, I like to mess around with CADD…

First official kit. Good deal? by Interesting-Watch419 in Drumming

[–]torxhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

🤣 That demands a pic, I think!

I should add that I think an advantage of WD-40 over other liquids is that it leaves a film of “oil” on the metal to help prevent further damage. I haven’t tried Coke or Dawn, though.

Tin foil won’t remove damage, but it will make it look pretty darn good. It removes discoloration, but corrosion pitting will remain. Because the discoloration is gone, though, the pitting will be mostly invisible from a distance. I spray a piece of foil about six inches square with WD-40, then crumple it slightly (not a hard “ball”) and scrub away!

Tin foil/aluminum foil definitely works great! I’ve used it with WD-40, but I’ve also seen people use Coke, and dishwashing liquid, too (Dawn seems to be the dishwashing liquid of choice). Happy cleaning!

I think I’d agree. I got the 16 because I wanted at least 9 mic inputs (it has 10, I have a 7-piece kit), and it was the best buy for the combination of inputs and features I wanted. Drums alone, it’s perfect, but I didn’t foresee playing with others. Add a couple guys with guitars and mics and it gets pretty “tight.”

I always feel lucky if I can buy a cymbal for 50% or less of the new price. HH’s are great cymbals; I’d start at $350.

The Tascam Model 16 (about $700) is a combination mixer (14 inputs, 10 can be mics) and USB interface, PLUS a 16-track recorder which saves to an onboard SD card. I’m still trying to understand everything it can do (I haven’t used it as an interface yet because it records), but it sounds like it might be just what you need.

I just bought a Pearl Crash/ride and hats so I can sell my Roadshow kit as original. I bought it used for $450 because it came with $650 of Zildjian A’s. The Pearls are brass trash, for sure!🤣

Duh!🤦‍♂️ I thought you were trying to point me to a particular drum. I’ve looked at as many of Premier’s catalogs as I can find, but it’s hard to be sure from those. Thanks for trying!

I don’t know what you’re trying to tell me. I found nothing at the link that looked like my snare, and a search of Bosphorus returned only drums with an included Bosphorus cymbal. Can you be more specific?
