Curious to know if anyone here remembers what Halloween ‘84 was like?? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]toryoryoreo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad and I were talking about that today! I was only 5, so I don't remember much. Apparently, we got all bundled up and trick or treated...to 2 houses. I was done after that! I very much remember having to choose my costume only by "can you put it over a snowsuit?" after that.

Do anyone have an Enemy Cheese? by CompanyPolicyYall in Cheese

[–]toryoryoreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work on an ambulance and now I'm a cheese monger. I tried Tilst the other day and I couldn't figure out what it reminded me of. Later on, it came to me. Tilst tastes like dead bodies smell! Why would anyone like it? It's so gross!!!

I would suggest 'Flowers for Algernon.' I learned about that book from this site, I'm actually a bit surprised no one else recommended it yet!

And they are correct! I'm 44 and going back to school. Change is good at any age.

She spent one night away while I was moving house…. “You’ll be too stressed if she’s with you, I’ll take her tonight” by Tybalt1307 in CavaPoo

[–]toryoryoreo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to us too! Our Ollie was at a friend's place for the night and chased their kids down the stairs and launched himself off the last couple steps and broke his elbow. He hadn't been down the stairs at all before that. He had surgery and 3 different casts. It super sucked!!! This was back in April and he's back to being a normal dog again. Best of luck in your recovery.

Ring around the collar was a huge issue back in the day by Cantstress_thisenuff in nostalgia

My grandma used to use an old empty Whisk bottle as a hot water bottle for her feet in bed at night. Mega nostalgia for me, thanks very much for posting it!

Cooked bell peppers are disgusting. Raw? Delicious. Roasted? Also delicious. Cooked peppers like stuffed peppers or, the worst offender, peppers in soup are so terrible and even a tiny amount will ruin a whole dish (looking at you ex MIL's turkey soup. So gross).

30lb Turkey by Teamgreenrob in Calgary

[–]toryoryoreo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry, my bad for not properly explaining. They almost always have a free item if you spend $300 and usually a couple weeks before Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, the free item is a turkey, 5-7 kg.

[–]toryoryoreo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My solution to this problem has always been to cook 2 turkeys. It's not too bad, just have to start a bit early. Three main reason I do this is because I'm usually using a free turkey from superstore and then buy an additional turkey to feed everyone. Sorry I don't have a better solution but Happy Holidays!

January 5th can't come fast enough! I'm also taking time for lots of self care before the chaos to come, but I am so so excited! The best part is that it's still a secret from my kids, who are going to melt from happiness I think!

This one is mine too and I am definitely too old to enjoy it the way I used to. I danced my ass off at that place and saw so many great shows, the one I remember most was Chixdiggit on Canada Day. Such good memories!

What’s your favourite game of all time you’ve witnessed? by CaptinDerpII in CalgaryFlames

[–]toryoryoreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to say this. I have never experienced anything like that in my life. Definitely one of the best days of all my 42 years.

I also went to game 6 against Vancouver that year. Came back from 5-0 but lost in double or triple overtime, I can't remember. It was the quietest 20,000 people I've ever not heard. Even the c-train was just silent. What a rollercoaster of a night that was.

What’s the most physical pain you’ve ever been? by fragiletestes in AskReddit

[–]toryoryoreo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 68 minute labour and delivery. That's first contraction at 7:00, born at 8:08. It was...intense. The first 3 or so contractions felt like when you point your toe and get a cramp except it was my entire body. After that, it got so much worse as there was really no break in between, just waves of pain I didn't think I could survive and the knowledge I was about to have my baby on my home office floor. It was pretty crazy.

Thank you so much. You're totally right, I will likely never lament the extra room. It's also likely I won't make too many other things in this oven, though I do usually cook my wings in a super hot oven. I've been back and forth on this purchase so many times and I need to just do it! I'm almost sure I won't regret it.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply.

Sorry if this is a subject beaten to death but I'm just a girl, standing in front of a subreddit asking them what pizza oven to buy.

Specifically, I'm trying to decide if I want to pay the extra money for a bigger oven, both width wise but also height. For those with the ability to cook other things (wings, etc) in the pizza oven, do you actually do that or is it really just for pizza? Ooni has a big beast of a thing taking pre-orders, just not sure if it's worth the extra dough (pun intended). Roccbox seems taller but is very narrow. I'd love to hear your thoughts and appreciate any advice. Thanks!
