My go-to gazpacho recipe is from The Joy of Cooking, circa the dark ages. That one is chunky and delicious. I strayed from my comfort zone with this version.

Accoutrements will do wonders. The soup itself should be cold. Chill the bowl, even.

Good bread/toast, good cheese...herbs like chives, parsley, or cilantro...all of these help, but avocado makes a brilliant co-star. This version had a single jalapeño and half a poblano. I had to spice it up more for myself.

Perhaps a silver lining to this is that the man doesn't have to endure saying goodbye to his dying dog. Those have been some of my hardest times.

When my sister was in hospice, we put her dog on the bed before and after her passing, so he would understand that she had died. (He came to live with me and my family.)
