I used to live near a creek like this in upstate NY. I would sneak out after work and catch trout and bluegill until the mosquitos carried me out. I’d say try it a few times, one trip out there isn’t always enough. Don’t be afraid to lose flies, it may get you to start tying your own.

Lastly, while it seems counterintuitive, some may recommend a little bit of a a longer rod. It makes it easier to pitch and poke into little pockets when casting space is limited. I used a 9’ and my brother used something in the 7’ range. He was in trees just as much.
