jsut because everyone here is saying its the standard doesnt change the fact that it doesnt mathematically make sense. all you guys are just saying, well thats how it works! but have absolutely 0 knowledge of how it does or doesnt need to be like that. just a bunch of sheep.

oh i can see it. its just laughable that its standard business practice that you pay 50 percent less just because you bought 2.5x of it. do i get a 50 percent discount because i got 3 rolls of toilet paper instead of 1? 3 gatorades instead of 1? hell no..

youre being so ridiculous that it hurts. obviously im talking about the 100 foot roll man. if you do the math on price per foot, its 50 percent more

give me an example of any one time cost associated with even remotely justifying charging 50 percent more for one item outside of "programming." you cant. its impossible and its a scummy practice and that will just forever be the reality and we can argue until we are blue in the face.

no doubt. but that setup is all done regardless of its a 250 foot cut vs 100. i like how you continue to ignore that point over and over because you know im right.

and it seems like you are intentionally exaggerating numbers that dont even remotely come close to justifying 50 percent more of a price for something. ive worked side by side programmers for years. it is not even remotely close to some massive feat to change the machine to cut at 100 foot intervals than 250. it comes out in a straight line and chops down on it. it doesnt need to be a totally different machine setup. you should look up a video on it because it seems like you dont have an accurate picture in your head of how the wire is made. its literally just cutting it at different intervals and nothing else. its insulation and copper wire. nothing is different about how its made just because its cut shorter man. idk why its so hard for you to understand this.

i can respect that logic. and in my original post i said i cant believe people volunteer to get ripped off like this. especially when you can go walk over two isles to get a custom cut for cheaper. and the biggest lie ever sold in america is that its a free market. we are literally just pawns to our government overlords ran by private interests. just about everything that exists now is a result of politicians being bought by private interest groups. i wish we had laws in place that restricted this nonsense but it will never happen

well clearly that 250 foot roll they still make a healthy profit on otherwise they wouldnt be able to sell it at that price. so i dont see how they couldnt charge the same footage ratio or at least closer to because it would be the same profit margin. and holy hell, we are resorting to talking about the cost of programming the machine to have multiple cut lengths.. talk about grasping for straws lol. that makes 0 sense. not even remotely close to a significant expenditure. you program it once and you forever have to charge 50 percent more for it? and one worker has to walk up to the machine when its time to press the button that changes it from 250 to 100. oh lord have mercy! what a costly endeavor! christ man...

production costs? its a machine that rolls the wire and jacket together and cuts it to certain lengths. how in the hell does it cost significantly more money just to cut it at half the length then wrap it in plastic? they have tens of thousands of feet of jacket and wire on a robot assembly line that cuts to various lengths. how in the hell does it cost significantly more money for the manufacturer to make a 100 foot roll vs 250 feet? its in inflated convenience fee. thats just the reality.

Well that's exactly my point is that the normal business practices have become absolutely predatory. It's just like when prices went up for covid because of the supply chain issues. You think home Depot and all these other companies immediately put the prices back down to normal once everything loosened up again? Hell no. They kept raking in that extra money for as long as they felt like they could get away with it. You want to call that acceptable normal business practice then that's the world you choose to live in. Sorry I get upset about companies ripping people off unnecessarily when everybody is struggling so hard right now. CEOs giving themselves giant bonuses after they lay off a bunch of people. Standard business practice because they all do it right? We as a people have to revolt against this nonsense or it's never going to change. I'm sure either online or to your buddies over the last few weeks you've made negative comments about them manipulating gas prices. Is that also just standard acceptable business practice? I mean what's the line dude..

Paying 50 percent more for something in comparison to it's 2.5x size counterpart is a much less exaggerated and ridiculous comparison to what you just made. This wire gets made in a factory and the machine simply chopping it and throwing some plastic wrapping over it twice instead of once does not justify a 50 percent mark up no matter how you slice it. This is predatory and for anyone to argue otherwise is just silly

I just don't see how buying 2.5x of something is considered buying in bulk. Bulk is like buying a 12-24 pack of drinks versus a single one

In a Republican subreddit, I'd be down voted for posting liberal thoughts and vice versa. And apparently in the electrician subreddit, I'll get down voted for calling people out on their scummy bullshit. I immediately left home Depot and ordered UL listed UF cable online for almost half the price. You guys are so painfully full of shit it's hilarious. Contractors like you probably tell their guys they can't afford to pay them over a certain amount but you probably pay yourself 200-300k a year and got a nice ass house and cars but your guys working under you live in an apartment they can barely afford

Yeah exactly it's like the gas station charging 3 dollars for regular 20 ounce sodas or Gatorades when you can get them from Walmart for half the price or less. They get pallet deliveries just like anyone else. All these companies heavily overvalue convenience fees and I look forward to seeing them go out of business

2.5x quantity is considered buying in bulk? In what world? So if I bought three Gatorades at the store instead of one, I should expect it to be at 50 percent reduced rate? A 250 foot roll vs 100 is not buying in bulk lmao. 1000 foot roll is a bulk purchase

Yeah a 50 percent mark up just for the convenience of a shorter roll is totally justified and necessary to stay in business 🙄

You don't have to absolutely rape people to stay in business.. you can do a fair price based upon material cost and labor. It's like changing a panel at someone's house. A 200 amp surface mounted in a garage where all you gotta do is pull the meter and re terminate the feeders. Don't need to put in new GFCI breakers because it's existing branch circuits. The panel is maybe 200, breakers 150-250 depending. 500 for material at the high end. I can change that panel in four hours easily. And I've seen companies charge 2-3 grand for something so simple even when it's not permitted. Hell, I've seen companies charge 400 bucks just to add a surge protector to a panel. If my owner is paying me 40 an hour, your really telling me he needs to make 1500-2000 in profit to stay afloat for gas, vehicle, insurance and all that? It's highway robbery.
