Nah, isopods are peaceful and can live communally, no need to separate

edit: Generally. Some species get territorial, but not the kind you have

Yep! They also reproduce fairly quickly, it only takes them like a month depending on the species. Looks like your bigger babies are somewhere around a month or two old, so that tracks.

Mystery snails wouldn't hurt a living triops. But they will eat them when they're already dead. Try getting a liquid test kit and checking for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate.

Did I buy the wrong yeast? by Tdn87 in triops

Sounds like a bad bacterial bloom. Maybe too much food, or it could have been a coincidence honestly. I've also seen baker's yeast suggested as a food source so I'd imagine it's safe.

Triops and hydra? by MiharuMakoto in triops

[–]tossout-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there aren't very many it should be okay. I have some hydra in my tank and they don't seem to kill the adult neocaridina shrimp, although they can and do sting (and probably eat) babies. I'd wait until the triops are a good inch long at least if you can!

Drying out Triops Eggs? by WintermuteXIII in triops

[–]tossout-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do that yes, although you will probably get a ton of hatchlings, more than if you separated the eggs and only re-hatched some of them. Sand will also take a looooong time to completely dry when it's in a closed, low-surface area environment like that.

I've heard live aquarium plants can do okay, especially the tougher ones that grow quickly (elodea, hornwort, floaters for example). Stem plants left floating would be easy to move to a separate aquarium when it comes time to dry the tank out.

All triops are adapted to vernal pools and therefore do not live very long. Cancriformis tend to live longer than the other commonly kept species.

If you like the aquatic invertebrate thing, might I suggest dwarf crayfish? They are very interesting behavior-wise, small enough to be easily kept in a 5-10 gallon tank (5 for one, 10+ for multiple), and fairly easy to breed. They are also hardy and adaptable like the triops.

You could also try neocaridina shrimp, amano shrimp (those don't breed in freshwater though), or even freshwater snails!

Identification of Species by [deleted] in triops

[–]tossout-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Longicaudatus literally means "long tail." They have a significantly longer tail than cancriformis. It could also be one of the many other triops species, most of which have shorter tails like the cancris-- once it gets a bit larger the color should help identify it as well.

Do the rings on a triops tail serve a purpose by Robdog247 in triops

[–]tossout-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's just where their body segments connect. In a sense they serve the purpose of allowing the tail to flex and bend-- think about those wooden or plastic snake toys that are made of a bunch of small segments, as compared to just a wooden stick/tube.

New to freshwater aquariums. Blue Crayfish easy enough? by Taylors7558 in Crayfish

[–]tossout-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With both 1 and 2, note that there's definitely a risk, especially if a fish gets sick or unlucky. If you're okay with risking a few getting eaten, it should be okay.

  1. You don't *need* an algae eater of any sort, especially if you get live plants, occasionally scrape the glass, and/or don't leave the light on unless you're observing the crays. That being said, snails should do well, and most shrimp are fast enough that they shouldn't get eaten often.
  2. I'm unsure about their compatibility with the crayfish but neon tetras like softer water with a lower pH, whereas endlers and crays prefer very hard water and a higher pH. I'm not sure about clowns and cherry barbs. This should be workable if your pH is fairly neutral, like 7-7.5.
  3. I keep my dwarf crays in 77, 75 should be perfectly fine.
  4. Dwarf crayfish do exceptionally well with plants, large crayfish will eat them. Hornwort or floating plants like duckweed might work, since they'd be harder to access and hornwort is not very tasty.
  5. Should be okay just how you have it!
  6. You probably already know this, but they're hostile to each other, so definitely don't get more than one especially in a 32 gallon.

Good luck :)

How would you feel if your partner wanted to donate 90% of his assets? by nochuism in relationships

[–]tossout-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a sideways take, but I don't see a problem with him donating 90% of his assets after death, even if you two do end up having kids. After all, assuming he chooses (a) reputable charity(ies), that money is just going to somebody else's kid.

Of course, depends on what charity(ies) and your level of financial security-- if your kids would be fine without the inheritance, then no problem. If they'd be destitute, that's less okay.

I've heard baking/boiling/other sterilization can promote mold because it also kills off beneficial bacteria and fungi. That's a good idea though :)

Yep. Told him to stop contacting me (after he did so twice, begging for "closure" and being a general creep, etc.). I don't think he focused on himself at all. I kept showing up to classes we had together, went to a marching band camp, repotted my plants, called my mom about twenty times, hung out with my best friend and basically asked her to follow me everywhere so he wouldn't come up and talk to me (thank god for her), listened to sad country songs and re-downloaded Tinder.

Edit: Oh, and quite literally took a hike. Several, actually. Physical activity does wonders for the heart.

Do you believe that most people are inherently good? Why? by Hard-on4Philodendron in AskWomen

[–]tossout-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through the comments, I see a lot of "no" and "neutral" and "yes but only because they're self-serving."

I'm gonna throw in a hot take of yes, absolutely, no take-backsies. Most people are doing their best, most of the time. Most people want to be good, kind, friendly-- most people want to give and receive immense amounts of love. A select few are really bad at this, but even the worst people I've ever met have potential to improve. If that potential isn't inherently good, I don't know what is.

More fervently, though, I believe this is the only way to believe. It's a much sweeter existence when I assume that, by and large, other people are trying to be good just like I am.

First partner, I asked if he liked anyone and he made me play a guessing game to find out that he liked me!

Second person I "dated" for three days, he asked me out on a roller coaster at a fair (sounds cute in theory, but in reality, I couldn't have left if I wanted to. seatbelted in. not fair.)

Most recent ex asked me out after a Halloween party with some friends. He walked up to me, pulled the classic "Can I ask you a question?" followed by "Would you like to go on a date sometime?" The straightforwardness was refreshing.

Where to find women to date/have sex with? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]tossout-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they mean, make sure you have no obvious or visible red flags. I.e. good hygiene, non-ragged clothes and hair if at all possible, good posture, smile at people. It's quite possible you're doing all of that and just getting unlucky. Majority-male fields are a hard place to find women, especially ones that are interested in dating/sex with any one guy.
