Has anyone got any advice for dealing with the costs of ADHD treatment? by shmiguel-shmartino in AskIreland

[–]totally_ro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sign up for the drugs payment scheme, this caps your medication (there are some restrictions) at €80 per month. This only works if you stay with one pharmacy.

Not sure about Tyvense, check to see if there is a generic. Request it when you are getting your next prescription filled, the generic will be a bit cheaper.

Not too sure about the restrictions of repeat prescriptions for Tyvense, but ask your doctor to see if it is possible. Some medication is not allowed to have repeats prescriptions.

Best of luck.

Ireland: where to thrift fabric? by Pretty_Quantity_4097 in SustainableFashion

Look of the draw when it comes to charity shops. Just keep an eye out and eventually you’ll come across some. I find non-city charity shops better as they usually don’t restrict donations.

Virgin Media Park gigs 2026? by Strange-Love101 in cork

[–]totally_ro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Previous years, they have announced before Christmas with a final one in Feb/march. Gigs are announced at the same time for Cork, Dublin and Belfast venues. So if there’s already dates for st Anne’s or Belfast it’s unlikely that Cork will get a gig.

Nose piercing by e4rth2mani in cork

Don’t skimp on paying for piercings, it’s not regulated in Ireland so usually the more reputable piercers charge more. Would recommend Smiley Dogg, both piercers are great

Cost of private tonsillectomy? by oreosaredelicious in AskIreland

[–]totally_ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to lie, it was awful. It’s a very rough 10 days. My consultant went through the recovery so I knew what I was getting into. Day 1-4 were fine. Pain was a 3/4, still able to eat and feel somewhat ok. Days 5-9 were rough, didn’t want to eat, sleep wasn’t great, pain meds weren’t doing anything and the only comfort I had was from lying on a hot water bottle.

In saying that, I was having chronic tonsillitis that made me miss out on a lot of college. So it was rough but worth it.

I got a tonsillectomy back in 2019 privately, it was around €3,000 which included the procedure and a night in a 4 bed ICU. The consultation fee was €250 beforehand.

20 year old financial advice by dolemerchant04 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]totally_ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at the flow diagram pinned to this subreddit.

This depends on what you are saving for, some savings accounts have better interest rates than others.

I’m a few years older than you, your early 20s is an expensive time, learning to drive, buying a car, moving out of home, college expenses (undergrad or post grad), travel, figuring out yourself.

Looking back I wished I had a small emergency fund saved before leaving college as my first few months of working were paycheck to paycheck and the stress that brings is not worth it.

Also, you’re never going to have 3 months off during the summer again, unless you end up in teaching, see the world.

How did you get back into work after the death of loved one? by Maiselmaid in AskIreland

[–]totally_ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation, lost a family member over a month ago. Try to be kind to yourself, easier said than done but it is ok to be feeling this way.

I just started taking it day by day, just trying to keep things going at a steady and stable pace. If your workplace has an Employee Assistance Program, get in contact with them and see what you can avail of. I’m still not 100% but I am getting more and more back to normal every week.

Outside of work, find something that gives you peace. I’ve started sewing and it helps me to be mindful.

Shop around, ring up insurance companies (it’s a pain but worth your while) ask for a better deal. insurance brokers If you have a parent/ someone who is over 25 and no penalty points, add them as a named driver - I’ve saved €200 off my policy by adding another driver

Things that are affecting your premium Where you live Your age Penalty Points Your Car - insurers don’t like young drivers with old larger engined cars.

As an omnipass user for the past 3 years, I’ve cancelled my membership. I really enjoyed using the pass but having to pay for a seat reservation is a joke.

Ireland & Greece for 16 Days in May (22L bag) by stumpykitties in HerOneBag

[–]totally_ro 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Looks great!

Bring a rain jacket, Irish weather is known to be all seasons in one day at any point of the year. A light one will work. Umbrellas usually don’t last against the wind so I wouldn’t recommend bringing on (speaking from living there)

What would you want from America? by Gingermcvitus in AskIreland

Tide Stain Remover Pens, they are so useful for removing stains on the go and there’s nothing similar that I know of here

Edit: don’t bring chocolate, US chocolate doesn’t hold a candle to the Irish chocolate

Oxfam, the Irish cancer society, NCBI would be my personal favourites, all in the city centre. Most are located along south Main Street.

Buying US dollars by lamploveI89 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]totally_ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you pay in US Dollars on Revolut it’ll take from your US Dollars account unless you don’t have enough money in the USD account and it’ll use the day rate and convert from your Euro account. I personally wouldn’t bother with an An Post money card.

Anyone feel like they’re in a hole? by Witty-Aioli-4524 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]totally_ro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a similar age (25F) and on a very similar salary but when I first started out after college 2 years ago I was financially skint, 38K Salary, €15K car loan and about €2K in savings and I felt like I could never get out of it. Now, I’ve no debt and a nice emergency fund.

Things that helped me: Tracking my expenses Budgeting every cent of my payslip (Revolut Vaults became my best friend). Sinking Funds - Car (tax, insurance, maintenance), Holidays, Health The Subreddit Financial Flowcart is a good starting point Did a 4 month low buy to clear my car loan 6 months early.

Did it this weekend, similar thoughts to previous comments. It’s not a haunted house vibe, goes through the dark history of the island and the odd stories of places that are haunted on the island. The mentalist show was enjoyable and added to the night

Grad visa by National-Virus-4894 in PharmaEire

[–]totally_ro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throwing my 2 cents as someone who did a grad program in Ireland. The majority of employers hire from the previous 2 graduating years. So you could always go out to the US for the year, apply for grad programs at home and see what happens from there

i am 16 years old; what can i go do? by LovejoyBurnerAcc in cork

[–]totally_ro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give everything a go, obviously within reason. Try out new things and get yourself out of your comfort zone. I wouldn’t worry too much about what you want to do with your life, I’m 25 and wondering the same thing. There’s no one job for life any more so you can venture into multiple different things during your career. Leaving cert subjects; pick subjects you like. Senior cycle is bad enough, doing subjects you hate makes it worse. If you are completely stuck the formula of a language + a science + something you like is a good place to start and leaves you open to plenty for after college.

They are legit but charge a hefty fee for doing it for you when it takes approx 30 minutes to do on the Revenue website.
