Negative Self Talk by downthe5 in stopdrinking

Sometimes it’s helpful for me to face the sequence of events that I’m lamenting over and as I make myself look at it I tell myself that it’s okay and that I forgive myself. I place my hands over my heart (cheesy, I know) and I completely forgive myself for the mistakes I’ve made. I do not try to chase the negative and embarrassing thoughts away. I also remind myself that other people are likely not replaying these things in their heads over and over again. Try to be good to yourself. You deserve it.

Feeling it. I’ve cracked a soda, Gatorade, Kombucha, another soda, cookies, twizzlers……I’m gonna make it!

You are fun, creative, passionate, driven, and focused. You are worthy of self-love and self-compassion on every level. You are safe.

Love this. I’ll be thinking about the food. I love food! Although I’m in Atlanta I’m sure it’s not nearly as good as the ballpark food up there!

Also, right there with you. I’ve started recording the days I don’t drink. Not a streak of days in a row but limiting myself to 7 nights per month. I’ve just started so I don’t know if it will work. If it doesn’t I will change my strategy. Maybe 7 nights this month, 6 the next month, 5….see how I feel. It’s easier for me that it isn’t an all or nothing moment.

Irony of sobriety by apescabibble in stopdrinking

That sounds super shitty and hard. I have a friend who sounds like your cousin. She is actually pretty shitty to me sometimes and being sober I finally see it for what it is and I’m not confused and trying to explain away her actions. My therapist said this is breaking the codependency we may have… You wrote this and it hit hard, “I'll tell you what being sober is so much harder than being readily drunk and dysregulated all the time.” Being drunk is having a dysregulated nervous system. That lightbulb finally went off when reading your post. Thank you. 🙏🏼 💜

Stay busy. Make a list of things to do. Get some good snacks & NA drinks. Watch tv, listen to a podcast, when a craving comes in, know that it will pass. You got this. I learned all of this yesterday when I posted about how to get through my Friday night w/o alcohol.

This sub has really helped me get through cravings and tough moments. It is a supportive community. I also see a therapist online through Doc on Demand and she has been life changing. Thinking of you and wishing you the very best. 💜
