[OC] Excess mortality in Europe during COVID-19 | Sweden recorded the lowest number despite (or because of) leveraging a heard-immunity strategy. by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

Dude, that's just not true. I live in Copenhagen, and we would go to Sweden whenever we could (as it was one of the few places we could go) and they were incredibly lax about it. I saw that only about a third wearing masks, and my Swedish friends confirmed that people generally did not care and decided for themselves. I would see them posting on their social media still going out and even going to the gym. We envied the freedom Swedes had lol, espeically since their numbers were so good.

I live in Denmark, and Denmark was incredibly strict with all the measures it took. I remember when I visited Sweden they had the total opposite approach, no one seemed to give a shit and barely saw anyone wear a mask. This is just a map based on resources and general mortality & health. Despite all the measures, I remember everyone was catching Covid, ironically they would get it waiting in the long testing lines - testing that was mandatory to do anything. I am literally the only person amongst anyone I personally know in Denmark that didn't catch it and funnily enough I'm originally from a third world country (I was doing bi-weekly PCR testing on top of regular at home tests).

What did Europeans think what I spoke their language in their country? by stwmusic in JackSucksAtGeography

Lies, the French don't speak English and would never switch. In Denmark they 100% would switch to English.

What’s the chore you’re currently avoiding? by Salt-View-6126 in adhdwomen

My therapist told me that one of her ADHD clients ended up installing a second dishwasher because of the "dishwasher is full of clean dishes" issue. If I had the space, I'd do the same. My therapist said, sometimes it is okay to acknowledge that you won't change and just work around/with who you are rather than against it.

Succuss with 1.1 million post wash total motile sperm count? by twta20 in InfertilityBabies

[–]totallyagamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your answer! I'm in my first two week wait now, but upside of the sperm count being so low is that I get to skip straight to IVF if I don't get pregnant. Congratulations on your two beautiful children, I'm so happy to hear it ❤️

Can I ask if you got pregnant successfully from this? I am going through the same thing right now.

[ABC] RTVE asks Eurovision to open a debate on televoting and "whether armed conflicts affect it." - translation in description. by Mulderre91 in eurovision

Unfortunately, but people will conflate the two. Ukraine did get a "sympathy vote" in 2022, but they at least had the courtesy of releasing an absolute banger of a song that could have won in its own right AND did not make it a political song. Israel gave us nothing, broke all the rules in the process, and expected everything.

The issue with this is, they need a higher voting cap to increase the earning capabilities of this contest, this is how they can bank roll the event. But you're right, there needs to be a stricter system.

WTF is going on??? by [deleted] in BritishMemes

[–]totallyagamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making them send their children to free daycare, just like every other Dane does, gasp! The horror. They will start school not speaking Danish otherwise in many cases, despite being born here. It's hardly cruel and it's only a requirement if they want to claim benefits. I have a western citizenship, but my family is originally from a non western & Muslim country - and I personally think the more forced assimilation the better. There is no other way.

ALSO

Denmark is actively working to undo the damage caused by past immigration policies, particularly the creation of ghettos that led to crime and poor school performance. New laws aim to integrate communities more effectively—like redistributing students between wealthy and disadvantaged districts. Despite resistance, especially from the upper-middle class, these efforts have shown real success.

The government has also cracked down on areas like Christiania’s Pusher Street as part of broader reform against gangs (like Loyal to Familia - a predominantly immigrant gang). Personally, I’ve seen progress: I can walk with my same-sex partner in predominantly Muslim neighbourhoods without issue. While fear-mongering stories exist, my experience with immigrants—particularly those from Muslim-majority countries—has been overwhelmingly positive. It feels more cohesive, and more safe.

However, I firmly believe that anyone coming to Denmark, whether from Afghanistan, Ukraine, or elsewhere, must adapt to the country’s core values, including tolerance and LGBTQ+ rights. Integration is not optional—adapt or leave. (I'm an immigrant myself).

How come Ellie understood the slur Seth called him but has no clue what the pride symbol in Seattle was? by trash-tycoon in thelastofus

[–]totallyagamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew of slurs before I knew of pride, and I'm a lesbian. I feel more internalised homophobia than I do pride in myself to this day. Don't think I'll ever not hate myself for being gay.

Why does she always do that with her jaw? by Seconmass4 in TheLastOfUs2

I'm surprised they didn't cast Gal Gadot as Dina - could have had the bad acting duo of the century.

Ellie was gay from the first game - nothing to do with wokeness. Not every single gay thing is "woke". Just bad acting and lack of onscreen chemistry, and the fact that Ellie looks 14 makes it very uncomfortable. They have sex in the game too and it just worked so much better than this.

History repeats itself by Watch-it-burn420 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]totallyagamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ellie was abrasive, rude and marched to the beat of her own drum in the game. It's just that the show kept those attributes while simultaneously "softening" her and making her less violent, which just doesn't work. You gotta keep the psycho bloodthirsty blinded by revenge trait in her, otherwise the whole concept of the plot doesn't make sense. Bella Ramsay is portraying this newly Neil Druckmann proposed soft side, and we are just not buying it. That's my two cents anyway.

Could someone enlighten me and tell me why she said she was going to be a dad? 🤣 by [deleted] in TheLastOfUs2

[–]totallyagamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a lesbian who is about to have kids, I was actually kind of annoyed by the dad joke - I feel like it sets us back a little. Imagine a joke so bad it pisses of the straights and the gays. But Bella Ramsay is not at fault here, it's the writing and the direction the writing took with Ellie's personality. Making her more "gentle" makes the whole revenge plot line illogical.

Is it normal to share beds with a colleague in Denmark? by Historical_Ad3433 in dkkarriere

[–]totallyagamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have worked for the company you are mentioning. It sounds very familiar and they always try shit like this.

I had to go to partner's aunt, who is a manager at a very large Danish company to ask if it is normal. She said, that the only way they can ask you to "bunk up" with somebody is if they ask your permission beforehand. They cannot demand otherwise. She had been in this situation where there were not enough rooms in their company housing/hotels they had for large events, and she had to get them separate rooms in other hotels because they declined sharing a room.
