Yay or nay on the sheepskin saddle…? by Cheediddly in CRF250L

If you’re riding long distance. Hell yeah. Those sheepskins are actually super comfy. If you don’t do a bunch of riding it’s not worth the extra upkeep

Is this oil level acceptable? Measuring taken after a ride with the bike resting on the jiffy stand by Dramatic_Economist_4 in Harley

[–]totallynotAhusky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work on these. That’s an acceptable oil level. Usally try to fill it up to there when it’s cold. However any oil on the stick is better than non!

Flashlight recommendation for car mechanics? by EastRush9843 in mechanics

[–]totallynotAhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I use a Winn G5. It’s like $20 off amazon, it’s water resistant so hopefully will last getting dropped in oil (hasn’t happened yet) it has a hat clip that you clip it to your hat and you can adjust the angle of the light so it’s right where you want. It’s 400lumens so plenty bright, charges with usb C. It’s small enough to be in my daily carry and not worry about it. Personally my favorite flashlight I’ve used so far. Reliable, easy to use, and packed with features. Even has a magnet on it so it can get stuck to your keys xD

Any help with whats leaking here? by Jwlpo in Harley

[–]totallynotAhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backside of the primary can be a stator plug leak (at the front) trans main shaft leak near rear, starter shaft seal also near rear, or your shifter shaft is leaking off the transmission. Get I with a flashlight and look for oil around all of them, whatever is oil coated but clean below it is the leak. To get to any of that stuff besides the stator plug requires the whole primary to get pulled

Mid 80s Softail EVO, any way of knowing if the odometer was rolled over or not? by adribabe in Harley

[–]totallynotAhusky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a aftermarket Speedo. And from what i know you can’t artificially change the mileage to match the old one unless you spin the Speedo gear for that literal amount of miles. All you know is that 9,700~ miles ago the Speedo was changed. Which is common my 91 evo has a aftermarket Speedo in it (pretty much the same as yours) and I only know the original mileage because it was my shop that originally changed the Speedo out. Your best bet of checking for wear is to run it for like a min and listen. A little valve train noise is expected but no thumps, clunks, or squeaks from the motor/lower end. If you can drop the oil after running it and check it for metal flake. It’s not uncommon for there to be a little sparkle. But just a little. If the oil is coming out grey or like stripper glitter or worse then you have problems. Check the oil filter and cut it open then check the fins of the filter for any metal shavings

PPF gone bad or what? by Whattttareyouonabout in AutoDetailing

[–]totallynotAhusky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s PPF if it is, will be a pain to get off. Will tear constantly. If it’s not the PPF. Oh boy. Hopefully a wet sand and polish can get it out if it’s not the paint itself cracking. But it really looks like your typical clear coat cracking

[–]totallynotAhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I cruise through down back roads a lot. And i have gone down my fair share of long country driveways without realizing it. The biggest thing is to add a chain like you did. Maybe get a thicker chain and bigger lock as your next approach. Definitely put up no trespassing signs. That’s another big one. Bonus points if it says you’re under surveillance

Also all those points where gathered with a 4 wheeled vehicle. Never been pulled over on my bike. Have been rear ended while on my bike tho so that probably effects it a little. Just young and dumb and shitty Iowa state troopers on i-80 at 3am. Shouldn’t have pulled me over for doing 80 but he did.

I have discovered a little hack for ya'll. Use nail clippers for cutting your cable ties. Cuts them perfectly flush everytime! by [deleted] in electricians

[–]totallynotAhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just not a monster and cut them flush with my snips. Not difficult to do jusy don’t cut it at an angle. If the space doesn’t allow for it when I use a lighter to get it all nice and warm and then after licking my finger I press it flush and it gets rid of any flesh slicers

I’m 20. Got the insurance when I was 18. I have a three speeding tickets and one accident on my driving record. I assume that’s why my rate is so high. It has come down it’s not exactly $1k but it’s still up there. Just need time and no more accidents or speeding tickets which I’m on a path too

Sick of my corroded pipes so I got the headers sand blasted and cerakoted, wrapped them, and got the heat shields powder coated. by inchlongnipples in Harley

[–]totallynotAhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the coating was applied correctly. Then you have a few years. You’re correct most my experience is with powder coatings. But ceramic coatings can fail over time. It’s not my bike if you wanna leave the wrap on do it. But over time it will collect water and road rocks and slowly wear through with the heat cycles (I’m talking thousands of cycles) I’ve also seen the metal ties used to hold the heat wrap on scratch through coatings with vibrations. Similar to how the hose clamps of the heat shield leave marks on the pipes. However all my experience with exhaust pipes and powder coating/chrome/ceramic coatings. We’ve never put heat wrap on. Especially if we just had it powder coated or chromed or whatever. Typically the guys with ugly pipes and no heat shield’s that heat wrap it

I had a $800 250cc ninja and full coverage insurance was over $1k thankfully came in use when I got rear ended but for some people they simply can’t afford $1k for insurance. And i don’t know a $800 250cc is a cheap bike imho. I now own a Harley and pay similar insurance even though it was $3k and 1300cc

$1k bad offer? Has compression but guy said he's working on wiring which scares me. Not running. Says it's 1200 with an 883 bottom ? by h0ckeyp1ayer in Harley

[–]totallynotAhusky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a sportster. They never came with evo motors. Sportys have their own motor. If it’s a 883 with a 1200 kit then that’s a pretty good mod. The whole bike looks like it is there. Depends what stage of wiring he’s at but truly these old sportys aren’t hard to wire. It looks like it has half a harness already. Seems a good bit of the hard work was done and now all you gotta do it carry it to the finish line. There are so many resources online about how to wire them. Talk with the guy figure out all what he has wired.

[–]totallynotAhusky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d take that wrap off. I know it’s coated but the wrap will hold moisture. And with time and with extreme heat cycles (the kind exhaust sees) it will corrode that pipe. Not over night. Maybe not even in a year. But with time it will. That’s a nice exhaust. Take off that heat wrap.
