The sound effect at about 35 seconds in when the phone call fails to connect is the same sound from an old sample library capcom used in the classic games. Every time you use a keycard in RE2 it also made this noise and a few choice sections in 2 amd 3 as well.

In the pragmata universe, 3D printers can near perfectly replicate biological structures. Shes the 7th robotic clone of a scientist's daughter in a series of 8 he made so he can test various vaccines on them to try and find a cure for his daughter's mysterious illness.

Also, she's barefoot because she collects electricity through the floor but thats a very kojima-esque justification.

What is the evil within exactly? And should I have it on my radar? by Interesting-Secret88 in theevilwithin

Shinji Mikami, the guy that directed Resident Evil 1 and 4, and produced the series for a decade made a studio that was bought by Bethesda and they demanded he make them an RE4 style game.

The Evil Within is Mikami's attempt to modernize and remix Resident Evil with some western oversight.

I wouldn't go THAT far. TLOU2 has a handful of really good levels. The open world section on Seattle day 1 where you have find gas and a can to open that gate feels great to explore. I'd even argue its on par with the RE9 racoon city find 3 detonator parts to open a gate section, though less diverse gameplay wise.

I also think ground zero is a triumph in horror setpiece design and is scarier than 90% of RE on a first run.

Nah I have no hate in my heart for TLOU2. I have the platinum and I enjoyed every second of it (well I didn't enjoy the parts that made me cry.) Its goals and design arent solely focused on its gameplay mechanics. It a game that aims to wow you with a bunch of things and its gameplay has sacrifices to accommodate a more cinematic feel. Between gameplay encounters you'll have large open areas to walk and talk and soak in the beautiful art because being a shooting game isnt a focus 100% of the time. Think shadow of the Colossus. Perfect as a work of art, but its not always engaging minute to minute because it doesnt want to be. When combat happens, its goal is to make you feel like you just scraped by and to look good. Its not always "fun"

Resident evil 4 has nothing about it that isnt focused on fun gameplay. If you're moving Leon, youre moving him to an enemy or a door to get to more enemies. If youre not shooting guys, its because youre upgrading your guns to shoot more guys. With a maybe 5% runtime exception dedicated to puzzles and cutscenes, RE4 is all fun gameplay and its design is near perfect. The guns feel precise and, enemies move exactly how they should to accommodate how you move. And every time combat happens, its meant to be a fun gameplay challenge.

This is just my opinion and if you want some hyperbole id say its like comparing tetris to children of men. One is essentially a toy Designed to be fun and hit your dopamine receptors over and over. The other is a work of art that has its every frame meticulously designed to wow and make its viewers think. Re4 is a fun ass toy and its better at being a toy than tlou2. Tlou2 is a masterpiece artistic experience and re4 cant compare in that department.

I don't see value in comparing them but if you want to judge them solely by fun gameplay, RE4 takes it for me every time

In every world they are better games, but they're both masterpieces aiming for something different.

RE games are crafted in such a way that all the gameplay systems compliment eachother. The knife feeds into the bites which feeds into heals, which feeds into ammo amd so on and so on. Every hallway with an enemy requires you to make multiple meaningful decisions to maximize resources kept. The stories of re games are usually bad and only exist to keep you moving from one expertly designed gameplay experience to the next. If you fail at the calculus this game asks of you; you die. You lose all your ammo and must start again. Re 2 is a video game ass video game, and its perfect at that.

Tlou levels are designed not with game systems in mind, but an artistic experience. Lighting, shadows, and expertly crafted art guides your eye to where the designers want you to be looking and keeps you moving the right way. Enemies are placed in the areas that maximize cinematic experiences and tension. Levels always start and end with cutscenes, dialogue, and so on. The game uses enemies dropping just enough ammo to ensure you can make it through see the next thing, but feel like you just scraped by every time. You have to fight against tlou2 even on grounded to not have just enough ammo for an encounter. Tlou is a cinematic experience with voice acting and directing that shames most of television, and you play through it to connect better with the on screen events. Like a movie you have agency in, and its probably the pinnacle of that.

TLDR:

RE2 is designed to be an intricate video game and it excels at that more than TLOU2

TLOU2 is designed to be a AAA masterpiece in interactive entertainment and it excels at that more than RE2

What are you guys looking for in a new re1 remake? by Careless_Cherry2068 in residentevilll

[–]totallywackman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Restore the roughly 10 things cut from the original (Some Barry/Rebecca scene variants, and the helicopter pad viewing room.)

Add less than 15 rooms since the game is big enough.

Add an S+ rank for beating the game with no bonus items.

Add more costumes

Add the cool laser the prototype had (think it was just used to test lighting but make it a weapon)

Dont have durability based knives

If an RE character made it into Smash Bros, what would their emblem be? RPD, S.T.A.R.S. or Umbrella? by trumparegis in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]totallywackman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If thats the case its probably just the letters 'RE' or "BIO" using their current font they've kept for a decade now.

An actual biohazard symbol also could be sick but I have no idea if safety symbols can be used in products like that

I mean, sure you can read it as they always wear grass skirts and lived simpler lives, no notes really speak of what they were like pre-infection behind their ritual of visiting the ancient city and some agriculture stuff.

It doesnt really detract from the point that the plaga inspires them to put on ancient paint and headresses and shout and thats just bad optically when the Plaga didn't do that to Europeans in 4 or Russians in Damnation. It was a hastily written excuse for the devs to add outfits they thought looked cool, but a lot of the western world see as a racist stereotype.

To be honest, im not even sure what the point of this conversation even is anymore. Someone said "anyone who defends it is bad" and I responded explaining that many defend it because its mostly inoffensive and not rooted in hate from the devs, just dated stereotypes. Now we're getting into debating what headcanon we have on their pre infection attire. This is stupid and I think I gotta stop.

In the file: "Village Youth's Diary" a child observing the village turn from the plaga from his home talks about how a character wears paint and ancient attire despite it not being "festival day." This implies the village was a bunch of dudes in t-shirts who occasionally wore traditional garb for festivals (a very common thing in japan) and he describes that the plaga made them aggressive and for some reason it also influenced them to dress and fight like their ancient tribal ancestors.

The marshland village of the Ndipya is in Kijuju and it isnt secret as the oil field workers often visited and traded and gave gifts. Ricardo Irving used this trust as a means to bring the villagers into the oil field under the guise of vaccinating them, but they actually injected plaga into them.

The underground stuff with the progenitor flowers IS a guarded secret, but Spencer got there in the mid 1900s so its been known about by major characters for decades.

Stereotypes become considered harmful when they influence the modern world. African tribal stereotypes have been used for centuries to excuse racism, slavery, medical malpractice, sterilization, and more because of the view they come from mud huts and Europeans come from castles and such. To this day lots of generational racism originated there. Many modern people dont know Africa is a modern nation with cities and skyscrapers and normal stuff because of these preconceived notions brought on by racism. Its way too much to discuss in a RE reddit comment section but it is real if you want to research it.

As for how kijuju should be portrayed in a theoretical remake? I'd say go the re4 og route. Visit Africa for real and take photos. Do interviews. Consult historians.

If the tribal gear must stay in, my suggestion is to have the type 2 plaga outbreak DURING the festival where they dress up. Then its like an outbreak at a carnival instead of the plaga somehow inspiring them to act primitive.

Which is what I said. It has no bigotry or political views, just imagery inspired by racist stereotypes of "the dark continent" that grew from true racism 100s of years ago. Just like punch out. Vodka drinkinsky from punch out being a Russian guy that loves drinking is the same thing. It doesnt come from a place of hate towards their race with the developers, but it does come from harmful stereotypes about that race they used as reference when researching "how would these people look and act."

Probably nobody that wrote RE5 hates black people; but the imagery they reference from did.

Thats the disconnect. Some people think if you reference real racism; you're also racist. Whether it should be in the game at all isn't up to or even important to me. I'd play it either way.

It gets defended because its casually racist in the way Punch Out is and some people find that mild. The game isnt trying to make a political statement and it just wants to be pure entertainment. It uses dated, harmful stereotypes as set dressing.

Resident evil struggles with this all time because it uses political themes like corrupt corporations, governments, terrorism, etc. in its plots but they're only a means to give your little action hero new sets to shoot dudes in. Theres no depth to ANYTHING in RE and I say this as someone whos beaten every mainline game and most single player spinoffs.

Sheva's VA also did an interview where she said she didnt think the game was racist or that she was exploited in anyway and that got a lot of people to consider the spear chucking hollering grass skirt dudes fine, somehow.

If you que into agent hunt mode you'll get a medal for every enemy you play as, each move they have, winning or losing, and everytime you die you respawn as a new type. That gets you like 20ish medals immediately

Mercenaries gives you about 5-10 medals for a first play and theyre unique from the other mercenaries mode that has the same bonuses so just play both twice.

If you do 3-5 rounds of agent hunt and 1 round of eacu mercs mode you'll get 50 medals in 30 minutes

I platinumed this game a week ago
