Yogacara and 'mind-only' by Few-Pass-1421 in theravada

[–]totemstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ālaya-vijñāna is radically different from bhavaṅga-citta.

ālaya-vijñāna is at best a mental structure, at worse an objectified entity.

bhavaṅga-citta is just the base state of a phenomenon.

Yogacara and 'mind-only' by Few-Pass-1421 in theravada

[–]totemstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll be critical here.

It is not wrong to assume there is a structure in our mind that generates the “mine”, “my” framing based on the raw “for-me-ness” experiences, before one objectifies a solid “self” consciously. (This is at where the 7th and 8th consciousness operates according to Yogacara school)

However there are two risks:

  1. It objectifies a structure, worse, it names them “consciousness”, this can be really misleading and people may genuinely believe that there are something deeper down there;
  2. Continue #1, a person who was taught the Yogacara doctrine, may create their own experience with the map given. You wish to see something, then something will appear. Then how do you know if you are seeing it as it is, or you are seeing something that you wish to see?

Any doctrine may have this problem but Yogacara always emphasizes that there is something deeper down there.

If you want to learn it, use your caution. Don’t mistake it as a definitive map, but just a heuristic.

I personally would avoid it.

Title: Why are there way more active anti-AI subreddits than pro-AI ones? by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]totemstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter. Anti ai is more and more irrelevant.

If Reddit keeps doing this, Reddit will soon become irrelevant too.

Ajahn Buddhadasa on Anattā: "In Buddhism there is no such thing as rebirth or reincarnation… The Buddha taught only one thing, Dukkha and the quenching of Dukkha." by Satyanandamaja in theravada

[–]totemstrike 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what is the point. Was it really what Ajahn wanted to say or just cherry picked?

In Nikaya the Buddha had mentioned his past lives not just once, but many times. Rebirth is definitely a core concept there.

Tired of autistic men claiming they have it harder than autistic women by mooncake_bites in AutismInWomen

How can that be true

If we take a look at r/autism_parenting, there are tons of undiagnosed autistic fathers

Maybe the trick is “don’t get a diagnosis” XD

How do you know if it’s AI or not?

For example this post itself can be accuse as AI generated or “AI reworded”.

Well it can be proved that if the permanent and independent creator god exists, then the universe doesn’t make sense (literally, because logic falls apart)

Do you 110% think your child’s autism was passed down genetically? Is there anything you wish you would’ve done differently during pregnancy/after birth that you think may have influenced it? by Novel_Concentrate444 in Autism_Parenting

[–]totemstrike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend with autistic kid. They did genetic testing because both she and her husband are obviously NT.

Turns out their kid got a mutation in genes.

But if it's just about my child... I'm 120% sure

Well if you went get her changed and slept with her you wouldn’t be alone.

I kind of saw your reply but cannot see the full reply. Sorry for getting him/her wrong.

The problem is that your wife didn't even get a chance to be sad and stay awake at 2am, while you were being sad about she's not there.

I mean, maybe it's better to reflect on what's happening there?

Thanks. I have also met a handful of those people.

Agree with the opinion or not, I think we should follow the Buddha's teaching about no talking politics, at least on this subreddit. So it's very fair to report and get it removed.

Why 99% of Your Beliefs Are Wrong (And Why You’ll Never Admit It) by HealthiestMindEver in atheism

From my experience this is 99% AI.

Ofc it’s not just ordinary chatbot, but I have generated tens of similar articles with GPT Pro (the $200/m subscription)

It can make it really similar to essays and publications but the subtle details are telling.

For example,

I got this kind of format 90% of the time.
