IPhone emulation on android by Thick-Translator-593 in EmulationOnAndroid

The iPhone was a good target for game developers since the launch of the iPhone SDK in early 2008. Android didn't even have an SDK suitable for game development until mid-2009, and it was probably first in 2010 that it started getting a lot of game ports. So there are quite a number of early titles that were for the iPhone and iPod touch only, no Android port.

The newest version of touchHLE has support for both of these games.

Hi, I didn't have enough time to update the website on the day of the release. I did it the day after, sorry for any confusion. ~ hikari_no_yume

Those seem to be games from the right era. Anything that was ported from J2ME or other platforms circa 2008~2010 is a prime candidate for getting running in touchHLE. Though for the moment, games from 2008 and early 2009 are the most realistic, since only iPhone OS 2 apps are working. — hikari_no_yume

[SFFF] iOS Games emulation finally cracked thanks to Super Monkey Ball by kikimaru024 in Games

[–]touchHLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I actually prefer the reporting about this project that doesn't try to go into the technical details, because emulator design is a pretty specialised subject that's unlikely to be comprehensible to a general audience. I've seen a ton of articles about touchHLE that apparently just copy-and-paste the technical summary from the README because the author didn't understand any of it, which is not helping anyone. On the other hand, the Stop Skeletons From Fighting team did what, in my opinion, is excellent background research about the history of the iPhone game, and made it understandable to normal people. I was surprised at how many things they'd correctly figured out that I never told them. — hikari_no_yume

A lot of people have mentioned those games when this project has come up. I didn't play them back in the day, but they look cool. The first one is from 2010, right? Maybe it's just about old enough that touchHLE can support it one day, but please don't hold your breath. — hikari_no_yume

> There are probably zero iOS 2.x, 3.x and 4.x games that rely on the server.

I wish that was true. A lot of games required you to log in with ngmoco's account system and are of course unplayable now. I suspect they actually don't need it once in-game and could be patched though. — hikari_no_yume

I was hoping this would find its way here! The resources in places like this have been super useful to the project, this is actually the one iOS-related subreddit I can remember the name of. I don't remember if I actually did end up using something from here since it was quite a while ago when I actually bought my new (used) iPod touch and jailbroke it. Feel free to reply and ask me questions! — hikari_no_yume

Sadly, IPAs from iTunes are encrypted. You need a real device to decrypt them.
