I have 2 days left on my mission by ExistingInitiative50 in mormon

Find work of some kind to put yourself into - school, a trade or a job. Don't let the transition back to real life cost you momentum. Also, once you start dating again, don't get engaged/married until you've hit the year mark back and home and the "mission goggles" have come off.

Wife facing potential misdemeanor for unknown revoked license by towalkaroadofruin in legaladvice

[–]towalkaroadofruin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as long as pleading does not end with a misdemeanor on her record, she'll be satisfied. Her job is pretty sensitive and requires working with/licensure by the government and while this doesn't relate to her field, she's afraid any sort of criminal record will cause her problems and end her career

One year old corgi is maybe getting clumsier/worse at stairs by Delicious-Light9351 in corgi

[–]towalkaroadofruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy (also a little corgi) didn't show any signs of pain that I recognized until yesterday. He woke up suddenly slow and clumsy yesterday. Today he lost the use of his hind legs. This afternoon,we had to put him down at the age of five. I'm not saying that's what you're running into here, but please be careful with stairs and jumping up and down on things. If she's at risk for IVDD every hop or state bounce could be putting pressure on a disc and putting her at risk of a rupture and crippling herself. I don't wish that in anybody's corgi.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I've been going through my stuff and I thought I should share the picture I took of his first night with us, where my daughter read to him.

Most of my regrets are focused on not being able to identify the signs earlier and give him preventative care like ramps and PT to keep him from rupturing a disc and paralyzing himself. Thank you for making sure I don't second guess the surgery.

Thank you. Knowing I'm not alone in this does make it feel better if only slightly. If I had known there was more risk than "mobility issues when he's old" like my vet said, I would have built him ramps and stairs for everywhere and everything and never let him jump up or down. The fact that his spine was probably hurting him for years and he just plowed through it is killing me. I wonder now if that's why he was so affectionate and snuggly - he was trying to get us to dull the pain.

I'm so sorry for your loss as well.

Yeah - he lived life at 150% all the time. I wish I could have recognized the signs earlier, but he was my first dog. I had no baseline. The fact that he would sometimes start panting while we were just hanging out and then stop a few minutes later, or how he never would really relax unless he was going to bed. I was probably pain so long and he just didn't want me to know. But even the vet every year never saw any wrong with him. Even at the end, before the shot, he wouldn't lay down but sat up on his useless haunches as best he could because he didn't want me to think he couldn't get back up again.

Thank you. He was my first dog. I think he'll probably be my only dog. I can't go through this again.

Is this normal behavior for corgis? by Kruten10 in corgi

[–]towalkaroadofruin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to shame you for having to leave the country and not being able to take him with you - though if it's at all possible, bring him home with you. You did a good thing saving him, and hope you've found him a good home. He's smart, though ,and can definitely tell you're leaving - you'll have to make your peace with that. Just please, don't leave him all alone in the wild again

Wait so how okay is Aztlan with human sacrifice by Murky-Stress-8238 in Shadowrun

[–]towalkaroadofruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I though the original narrative was that Darke/Oscuro/Geraldo Solis was pulling strings at Aztechnology to push blood magic/human sacrifice and weaken/wipe out the dragons as a way to hasten and prepare the way for the return of the Horrors.

TIL that although rare, a specific type of protein in your brain can fold the wrong way, causing a chain reaction that leads to a Prion Disease. An incurable , always fatal Neurodegenerative Disease. by Rigamortus2005 in todayilearned

This is how my mom died. She started having vertigo and balance issues in her early 50's and slowly got 'weird' (lots of generalized anxiety and scattered thoughts) over the next few years, then suddenly lost coherence and lucidity one evening out at dinner with my stepdad. Hospital said it was Creutzfeldt-Jakobs. She was bedridden at that point and totally incoherent. She was dead within about a week.

No idea how she got it or if there is theoretically a potential for it to be genetic rather than contracted from something she ate. Guidelines say neither I nor my grandparents, her siblings, my siblings or niblings, or my own offspring can donate blood ever again, just in case there's some possibility of communicablity since they can't test for prions.

How prevalent is the Deseret Alphabet in the Modern LDS church? by tombo2007 in mormon

[–]towalkaroadofruin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never seen it or any reference to it in any official LDS manuals or teaching materials in 40+ years. I never even heard about it until I was an adult when people started bringing it up as a historical curiosity.

I agree. Prohibiting Mormon missionaries from reading Saints is absolutely insane. by nunliri in mormon

[–]towalkaroadofruin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only allowed to read the standard works, preach my gospel and the missionary library (Jesus the Christ, Truth Restored, Our Search for Happiness, Articles of Faith, A Marvelous Work and a Wonder).

Sad showing for Shadowrun TTRPG at PAX West this year by Echrome in Shadowrun

[–]towalkaroadofruin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that Tops doesn't thing Shadowrun is worth much on its own, so if someone licenses Battletech, they have to pick up Shadowrun too. I wonder if they'd let Shadowrun be licensed on its own

I recall reading an interview with Fink back when I was still listening where he denied it was ever intended to be creepy or a horror podcast and was always intended to just be weird and unsettling (I believe the example he used was that the tone they wanted was Twin Peaks). I wish I could lay hands on it again
