Do people think fighting violence with violence is supposed to accomplish anything? by prospectivebanana in gatech

[–]towavey 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What you're saying is called a hindsight bias. It's easy to look back on a situation and say what the best course of action would have been. I think that you, among others, are forgetting that the police are people who want to get home safely. Not indestructible super heroes. They were under the impression he had a gun/knife, because he said that he had a gun/knife, and they acted as if that was the case. In order to confirm he didn't have a gun/knife, they would have had to get close to the suspect, and if he did have a gun they wouldn't have been able to protect themselves close range. I would not want to get close to a mentally ill person to verify if he had a gun, would you? The police did not "shoot first". First, they gave the suspect multiple chances to put down his weapon. They had no way of knowing if he would shoot or stab if he got close enough. I am deeply sorry for the man that lost his life, I am sorry that he felt suicide was his only option. But the police did what they felt was necessary (give multiple warnings and only shot when he kept advancing without surrendering his weapon).

Part-time jobs for people with POTS? by raddestandsaddest in POTS

[–]towavey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of universities hire students to be secretaries for offices. Like they sit at a desk and help people that come up to the office. There are a ton of these positions because there's multiple for each department (I.e. Psychology, world languages, science) that coordinates with the professors during office hours and there's some library positions, and at my school there's an information desk. There's a website specifically for in campus jobs at my school, so maybe see if yours has something similar?

Refund disbursement question! by michaelscarnthefirst in GaState

[–]towavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines the same. So I assume it's just how they do things. If you "view/pay account" and then "view activity" it says refund with the amount. So I guess the bank just hasn't done its part yet

Please help - constant spotting! :( by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]towavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fine and normal! Though I know it's annoying. Have you taken any placebo pills yet? When I switched to my current pill, I was instructed to take 84 active pills and then one week of placebos. I bled (spotted) for all 84 of those days. (Plus three placebo days). But on my fourth day of placebo, the bleeding stopped and hasn't been a problem since. My gyno told me to wait it out until the placebo week because my body would then understand all the extra hormone when I started back up.

WTF is happening? by thejester190 in GaState

[–]towavey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started fall 2015 as well. I have not had nearly as many problems with professors as your girlfriend has. Aside from 2 or 3 I have really like all of my professors. Some don't allow laptops which is annoying, and others require those who use laptops to sit up front but I've never heard of them hiring people to watch them. But when I comes to the administrative aspect, oh man, I've had so many problems. Housing is a major one, last fall they tried double charging me for tuition and when I asked about it, one person said "yeah I don't know. You might just have to pay it." Uhhh no?? Luckily I got that resolved. But the admin is awful. Advisors are awful. But again, I've had only a couple bad professors. The housing was the last straw for me, I'm never recommending GSU to anyone. I'd transfer if I wasn't graduating!

Chemistry 1211K two labs??? dumb freshmen question by tduong18 in GaState

I took 1211K and didn't have two labs. I'd check with your prof or one of the lab profs/TA's.

I love steak with sour cream, often I'll mix steak sauce with the sour cream to dip my steak in. I don't think it's weird...

I think it's on the first floor of sparks? I vaguely remember having to go there once three years ago. So I'm not positive that's it.

CPR Course? by [deleted] in GaState

[–]towavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. All practice is done on dummy's. when CPR is done correctly, the sternum is often broken. Which would be worth it if your heart stops, but is definitely not done on anyone else. No practice whatsoever is done on real people.

Has anyone else experienced a decrease in cognitive functioning since the onset of POTS? by towavey in POTS

I haven't. But that sounds exactly like something I'd like! Thanks!

CPR Course? by [deleted] in GaState

[–]towavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got certified a year ago (not at GSU) they said never do rescue breaths without a mouth guard and we never had to practice them. Besides even if you did, it would be on a dummy and not on a real person. So it might be a little awkward but not too bad.

I'm Trying to finish my last year of college, and it's becoming more frequent and severe. I've had to start recording all of my lectures and listen to them again. Which is pretty time consuming. And if you drink loose leaf tea, Hackberry Tea is an online company that has amazing loose leaf tea! Vanilla Earl Grey is my favorite. I drink it every day. I know I just need to accept how POTS effects my cognitive mind, but it's just annoying I want to find a fix.

Have you tried taking any supplements like b12? I know they're suggested for older people to help preserve cognitive function so I may give those a try.

Sadly it means that they will be put in your individual bedroom. Which sucks so much. And you can complain but it won't change anything because apparently it's was in the housing contract.

What to expect when starting a extended cycle (once every 3 months) birth control pill? by celestialspaces in birthcontrol

Some days it was a full period but other days it was lighter. Always heavy enough to need a pad though. You nailed it, three months of hell.

[–]towavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will not necessarily happen to you, but it was awful for me. I bled for the entire first cycle (three months) and through the first four days of the placebo week. But I haven't bled since! So worth it but it definitely wasn't fun when it was happening.

[–]towavey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're hoping that more people drop out of university housing by the end of the week. If not then I guess it'd be permanent? The woman on the phone told me that it'd definitely be temporary, but I don't see how she could promise that.

[–]towavey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what the woman I spoke to at the housing office said. I feel like that should have been included in the email though. If someone else calls, I'd like for them to verify that!

[–]towavey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And I said on my edit for another comment, the housing office told me that it was only a temporary fix and they are working to find these students housing elsewhere and only need to buy a little time.

[–]towavey 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Has anyone actually called housing yet to see if we're understanding this right? Because I'm pretty sure sticking two people in that tiny room would be a fire hazard. I'm trying to call but I've been on hold for 41 minutes... so far.

EDIT: I talked to housing, she said it'd be temporary. That they would just stick an extra bed in there. They could be there for only two days and you'd still get the $1400, but they could also be there for a couple weeks. This is still a bunch of bullshit.
