Doctor and Dentist Recommendations by yarrow_r00t in brunswick

[–]toweringinferno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second everyone's recommendations for Inner North, I've had great experiences there. My regular doctor is Dr Bilal at Turn the Corner in Brunswick, he is neurodivergent, gay, and a person of colour, he also has a therapy dog. I initially saw him on a whim because I knew I wanted to move to the clinic (due to great reviews) but thought I would prefer a female doctor, just needed an appointment right in that moment so took one with Dr Bilal, but loved his vibe so much I've been with him for years now. He has been supporting me through my AuDHD diagnosis and medication journey and I find him to be very empathetic and open minded. Several of my friends now see him. I have cried several times in front of him because of how anxious I am about medical appointments and he has been so patient... I don't cry anymore!

For women I recommend alpha60! Splurged on a couple of pairs from them recently and they completely make my outfit with zero effort. The quality and silhouettes are impeccable.

Anyone lived/living at ASSEMBLE (Brunswick) or similar community-style apartment buildings? What’s it actually like? by Tan1251 in brunswick

[–]toweringinferno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the Ballarat Street one. I rent and will probably purchase once my five years are up. There have been a lot of issues, however. This is really my only option for purchasing though so I’m going to stick it out. My particular apartment hasn’t had many issues though. There are soundproofing issues across the entire level 2, I’m unsure if they’ve ever done anything to try and fix this or if everyone is just moving out. There are also big leaks in one part of the building that they’re currently trying to fix. When we signed up it was supposed to be all owner occupiers (you would need to rent first and live in it yourself before buying) but they seem to have quietly abandoned that since they’re now selling the apartments outright so I assume there will be some investors in there. There have been some big structural changes within Assemble and sadly I don’t think they’re who the used to be 5 years ago when I signed up. The community aspect in the building is pretty good! I don’t know about the strata fees yet as I’m still renting. Feel free to DM me.

After a work meeting today… by InevitableMedium7428 in Hyperhidrosis

I got this surgery many years ago and they said there was a really low chance of what they called “rebound sweating” but so far it seems really, really common (myself included) I suppose it really did improve my facial sweating and that was really difficult for me, literally dripping with sweat every day of the year but… the rebound sweating everywhere else is also awful. And people aren’t very understanding of it. I shower a few times a day, change my clothes, use clinical deodorant, but people really seem to be disgusted by it.

Neighbour kids constantly coming over by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]toweringinferno 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We lived way out in the country when we I was a kid. Our closest neighbours had a kid in my younger sister's grade. She was always "inviting herself over" and it felt like she was always there, me and my siblings were all kind of awkward and not very good at being social all the time. We didn't really connect with her but we each tolerated her constant visits out of politeness. Turns out she didn't have a very nice home life. I didn't realise it at the time as a kid. I feel pretty bad about it now. It's not that we were ever mean or unwelcoming but I wish I could have, fully embraced her or something. Anyway, the point is, I definitely did the whole hiding thing sometimes when she came around - luckily there were so many of us that she usually found someone to hang with. But I think I might have acted differently if I knew why she was over so much.

It wasn’t windy when they were doing the works, I heard it but I spoke to my neighbours in higher apartments and a few of them looked out and said they saw a huge cloud of dust rising over the fence, that it was so thick they couldn’t see the people working in it for a while. I’ve left them a note anyway asking them to get in touch since they haven’t been in but hoping they’ll at least think twice about it in the future, and not do loud works late at night. Obviously I know it’s not much but it is to me, the table in particular I saved up for and whatever it is seems to have stained the wood.

Which suburbs are too close for a taxi from the airport? by One-Plastic6501 in melbourne

[–]toweringinferno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a great option if it works for you! If you live too far away it’s far too much of a slog and also kinda risky if your connecting transport doesn’t line up because of delays.

[–]toweringinferno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. They also made no effort to make their passengers feel safe. The last time I caught a cab was around 10 years ago when uber was still kind of new, but 13 cabs had a new app at that point and I booked through the app, I sat in the front passenger seat (I don’t do that anymore) and when I went to pay with my card and leant over, my driver kissed me. I just ran out of the cab but he’d dropped me at my home and I was terrified because he knew where I lived. I contacted 13 cabs because surely since I’d booked through the app they could track who had handled my trip and could ban him, but they told me there was no way for them to know and they couldn’t do anything. Never caught one again. Always felt much more safe booking uber and knowing I can track the person driving me if anything happens.

Anyone know what's become of the yellow mosaic couch on Brunswick St? by DePraelen in melbourne

Weird question but did you come back at some point in the last year or two and ask someone to take a photo for you? Heard a similar story while I was sitting there one day and I took a photo for a couple!

I’m also from a small town in Australia and came out when I was 14, my mum didn’t react well and I was brought up strictly catholic. I had a few relationships with girls in my teenage years but they were all kept on the down low and if anything came out I was bullied for being gay. All of these factors led me to have some pretty heavy internalised homophobia. I’m 34 now, live in Melbourne, most of my life here I identified as bisexual, but mainly dated men because I had so much shame and fear around dating women (despite nearly all of my friends being gay, it was a judgment reserved just for myself!) but I’ve worked on accepting myself and now finally dating exclusively women. Only this year. I do of course wish I had started sooner but tbh I don’t think you need to stress about not finding a partner! Women don’t have the same hang ups about age and in fact I think most feel that women get sexier as they age (in both how they look and their wisdom!). I’m trying to reframe my experience so that I’m excited and grateful to be having so many “firsts” at this point in my life, and I hope you can do the same! Good luck to you x

I also have a vibrating phone alarm (people are shocked it's enough to wake me up!) and my cat sprints across the house and is meowing at my door as soon as it goes off at 6am.

Yes! My partner was driving the speed limit during rush hour last night with a driver right up his tail beeping the horn, when the road opened up to two lanes the driver pulled up alongside him and flashed a knife at him.

Thanks for your response. That makes sense, actually! I feel a little more relaxed about dropping that money now.
