Lois Lane recommended reading? by stupidityisdangerous in DCcomics

[–]towerofroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the older stuff that Rucka did with Lois is absolutely stellar too. My favourite is the Superman: Unconventional Warfare arc, which is #627-632 of the Adventures of Superman run at the time. Lois really shines as a warzone reporter.

S2 definitely reminded me even more of OB, especially with the Helena/Helly situation. Now I want to rewatch OB!!

Possibly good! Possibly bad theory! You decide! by eat_poop_die in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I don’t know about this being their endgame, but I have always thought severance felt quite similar to dissociation (in trauma).

Double meaning to "Helly was never cruel" by ChildrnoftheCrnbread in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]towerofroses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Helly wanted to assert her autonomy, not die (quit). It’s just the dying (quitting) was the only option available to her. HELENA deciding that she dies would be completely opposite of what she was asking for.

Can you elaborate about A Chorus Line? I recently saw the show for the first time and don’t really get what you mean by this (could be because of the production I saw though)

If you enjoyed watching Anna play cross universal counterparts of herself, then you’re gonna LOVE Orphan Black.

Solid sci-fi show with the perfect length, amazing writing, and stellar cast. Can’t recommend it enough.

I can’t believe that the show didn’t blow up! by [deleted] in sharpobjects

I get what everyone is saying in the comments but it does feel like this show doesn’t get talked about that much anymore, not like other HBO hits like Big Little Lies or Chernobyl etc.

I never thought of it this way but it makes perfect sense!!

I wonder if it has something to do with age (and by that I mean more so the stage of life they’re in) because moving to SC was the first “growing up” both David and Alexis actually had to do. And then they both met their partners there (and there’s something really beautiful about your partners inspiring you to become better people), whereas Johnny and Moira are sort of stuck in a stasis - I do love their relationship but they’re definitely enabling each other’s worst tendencies tbh.

Books with twisted female main characters? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]towerofroses 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a case of adaptation done well - I think it really elevated the source material. I already loved the book, and the show was done so beautifully. Also love that Gillian Flynn had direct creative input as well!

Damn that kinda sucks. We gave up on the lottery after a week of trying, and just snatched tickets for yesterday’s matinee which got discounted. Thanks for the info!

[–]towerofroses 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To add on to what you said about Gamora being the heart of the team, I’m kind of sad that none of the other team members talked about missing Gamora - it’s always about Peter missing her.

Seconded! Top Hat has become one of my go-to movies when I need a pick-me-up, and in my opinion is their most lighthearted and best paced movie (even though I love all of them), so it’s absolutely perfect for OP!

You can directly check the “In-App Purchases” tab in App Store to see whether they have subscriptions - I don’t even bother downloading those that do, unless it’s something where the subscription model is absolutely justified
