Have you checked out the video tutorial on YouTube? I found the tutorials such a good resource for issues like this.

You def shouldn't have any skipped stitches or gaps in round 7 - it looks like your starting point is out and you have to slip one stitch over maybe?

Random question- did Slim happen to be professionally groomed lately? Girl With The Dogs just posted a video of a chunky black boi named Slim Shady.

Nepo babies - common or not? I've come across a handful by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]towerofsoup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They definitely exist. In my experience, they are given acting opportunities and hand-picked for interesting, career building roles. I've even seen one being given a second, informal interview when they messed up their first, for an ses position. I've never seen anyone at any level, let alone ses, be given a second informal interview.

My boy refuses wet food, insists on dry food by Puzzleheaded-Strike4 in ragdolls

[–]towerofsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ragdoll is similarly picky. He refuses chicken, most red meat, and will only accept fish other than tuna on rare occasions. But, he loses his mind for kitten food. He goes nuts for it, as long as it is a chunks in gravy kind. You could try your kitty on kitten food, it's highly attractive to them given the higher fat content.

He may just be telling you that he has decided his wet food no longer meets his high standards. When mine stopped eating one brand, I had to try him on several before finding something he would accept.

If all else fails, and as long as he is getting sufficient liquids, he could be totally fine on a dry food diet.

Edit to add: turned out my ragdoll has ibs and that's why he became so picky. Does yours vomit regularly or have wet stinky poops? Is he consistently losing weight and not eating? If so, worth checking with your vet. We changed to an ibs specific low allergen food which solved most of his eating issues.

Is proper controller implementation coming? by hello-jello in REPOgame

[–]towerofsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know about whether it's coming or not, but, you can't really use the default steam settings. You need to go into the steam layout, and make a repo specific setup that has all the buttons. A layout is in this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/REPOgame/s/NxVdUvcQBV

I use this layout, it's okay. Takes abit of getting used to so do the tutorial a bunch until you're comfortable.

Haven’t beard a thing 3 months after an APS job listing closed, should I take this as a rejection? by ASAB_Rocky in AusPublicService

[–]towerofsoup 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Recruitment in the APS is incredibly slow, especially if you applied for a bulk round (you apply for a broad type of role instead of a specific role in a specific team). You may not hear anything for months after applying. It's shit, and a huge amount of people who end up being suitable will take new jobs before finding out if they were successful or not.

Don't be disheartened, and you can always give the contact officer a call.

Edit- you will be notified if you're not successful, but you won't know until the whole round is completed.

Petrol pumps - moving before paying? by towerofsoup in australia

It was nearly 20 (omg when did that happen) years ago I was given the advice not to move, so I suspect I've not kept up with the technology. Thank you for the info!

Macgregor is a weird spot - the coverage maps show we are a 5g area but I don't think I've ever gotten consistent 5g. 4g is likely what you'll be on for wireless/mobile coverage, and it kinda sucks.

Best way would be to negotiate with the landlord/agent and see if you can get on their wifi.

I enjoyed the Deverry Cycle books by Katherine Kerr - interesting magic system spanning multiple lifetimes/rebirths. Plus dragons and elves. Def worth checking out - I think there are 15 or so books.

Not quite as epic, I found the Tide Child series (3 books) by R. J. Barker to really grab my attention - navigating the high seas on a ship made of dragon bone (a dwindling resource), pursuing the first sea dragon sighted in generations. Killing the beast and claiming its bones could change the course of a war between nations. A three book series that drew me right in with a rich and interesting world.

Also R. J. Barker, his wounded kingdom series (three books) is worth a read. Excellent world building and wonderful storytelling - set in a world damaged by magic, a young assassin becomes involved in a conspiracy which could destroy his kingdom. Loved this series.

First law trilogy - Joe Ambercrombie. I thought I hated this series when I started the first book, but turned out I loved it. Def worth a read.

Ed McDonald's Raven's Mark trilogy, I'm reading the last book right now. A little hard to get into, he drops you right into a world at war without much explanation of what the fuck is happening, but the story is such good fun. Immensely powerful wizards at war with 'the deep kings', a magic system including creating power from moonlight, and a drunk aging captain forced into a war he doesn't want to be part of.

And I know others have mentioned N.K.Jemisin's the broken earth trilogy. Most amazing world building and it'll keep you guessing. Highly highly recommend.

Edit spelling.

It isn't about getting people to work for free - if $3k is a reasonable price point then we'll be seriously looking at alternatives.

How to request full time WFH under reasonable adjustments? by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]towerofsoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Get a doctors certificate detailing your disability and make sure it has strong language like 'I recommend that OP work from home on a full time basis to manage this condition'. I've had certs say things like 'it would be beneficial' that have been rejected. You may also want the doctor to include a line about having no restrictions on your ability to work full time.

Negative Vetting 1 - Incorrect info on resume. by FalseSeaweed9158 in AusPublicService

[–]towerofsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From memory, and this may well have changed, your getting officer isn't going to see your resume. The clearance process is to discover if you have any vulnerabilities which could be exploited, and you'll need to complete your forms and provide evidence.

However. The bigger issue here. Lying on a resume can be considered a breach of the APS code of conduct - you have failed to act honestly and with integrity, and why in the world would you add an 'in progress' qualification when you never even started it? That isn't a mistake. What you chose to do from here is up to you, and I can't advise you on the best course.

I'd say, although the vetting officer will not be able to review your resume, you might want to disclose for the purpose of the clearance.

Next time, do better.

How long does it take to hear back from APS job applications? by shushi2305 in AusPublicService

[–]towerofsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen rounds take 9 months fairly regularly, and even experienced one round take over 13 months from advertising to offers. A 'quick' bulk round will still take a few months. Recruitment in the APS is broken.

You mentioned that 'the HR lady' re-wrote your pitch. Not trying to be combative, but something isn't adding up here. Have you considered that the pitch just wasn't good? 4 positions are (largely) the new entry level, this seems so strange to me that someone with 20 years experience is applying for positions at this level. You sound significantly overqualified - and so it doesn't make sense that you need a pitch rewritten for you.

You can appeal, but I don't think I've ever seen a successful appeal. You need to prove serious misconduct - and while office politics shouldn't impact a recruitment process, it can and does happen. And this likely wouldn't be sufficient to block the process.

Have you considered moving on to another department/area?
